When I arrived at Kenilworth Castle, this was the first place I looked at because it was due to close an hour after I arrived. I would have preferred to do it later but it seemed appropriate to do it first. I'd walked from the car in my trainers so in the small garden next to this building I sat on a bench and changed into my heels as there appeared to be plenty of surfaces walkable in heels. Note, this building is a relatively modern gatehouse. The original gatehouse was visible in an earlier set of pics (the arch at the top of the stairs) but a few hundred years after that, this more modern gatehouse was built in a more accommodating style suitable for guests. Anyway as I was changing a woman approached me. My tripod was and extended with my mobile attached to it, as I'd used it for some approach pics. She asked me if there were other people with me and would 'we' be taking pics? I said no, just me, hence the need for a tripod. Her - so no other people? Because if there are others with you then you'll need a permit to take pics. I repeated it was just me, I'm just an amateur. She persisted, was there anyone else? Me, can you see anybody with me? (I was tempted to start swearing because I was starting to get rather angry, but decided to stay as calm as possible behind gritted teeth). So she asked again! No there is definitely ONLY ME! "oh" and off she went and I didn't see her again! I didn't use my tripod as a tripod in the gatehouse, I just used it as a selfie stick. It's like in other places, they disappear and probably I could have beckoned forth my (non-existent) staff and they could have taken pics for me and we wouldn't have been bothered! . I tagged @englishheritage in a previous post because I thought they would at least acknowledge the complement I gave regards their wonderful staff member (sorry forget his name) but no! They ask us to tag them but possibly I wasn't suitable, who knows? So if they can't be bothered then I won't do so in future! . I loved the sound of my heels on the floorboards. . #genderstereotypes #pushingboundaries #menindresses #floraldress #kenilworthcastle #castlephotography

Considering there was a fabulous ceiling/roof in the previous post, here are two similarly wonderful examples of a roof and a ceiling from Kenilworth Castle. The first is where their cafe is located with that roof many centuries old and the second was in the castle itself and even older. . A study published in Frontiers in Communication explores the relationship between gender stereotypes and food choices and explains why some men may be hesitant to adopt plant-based diets. According to Alma Scholz, the lead author of the study, men may be less likely to consume vegan food due to their perceived need to conform to gender roles. Scholz and her colleague Dr Jan Lenhart conducted the study at the @uniwuerzburg and the @uni_bamberg to investigate whether changing the marketing of vegan foods could influence men's dietary choices. The research provides valuable insights into the complex relationship between masculinity, food preferences, and marketing. While a short-term intervention may not be enough to revolutionize dietary habits, this study paves the way for reimagining how plant-based foods are marketed and perceived. We can’t continue teaching our boys this message becuase it perpetuates harmful gender stereotypes. It suggests that men should not express their emotions and that their only responsibility is to focus on work. This can lead to men feeling isolated, lonely, and unable to cope with their emotions. It can also make it difficult for men to build healthy relationships and connect with their families. Men should be free to express their emotions and embrace their full humanity, just like women. #emotionalintelligence #genderstereotypes #mentalhealth #toxicmasculinity

Can we talk about aging? I love what I look like, naturally, without makeup. And you know what? I’m aging spectacularly well for my age. And I had to fight for this all through menopause: having my skin get thin, having wrinkles happen… (Menopause is absolutely a bitch for aging.) But what I wanna give you is this: Age for YOURSELF. I hate being told I “look good for my age.” Because here’s the thing: I don’t care what you think! I want to age well for ME. This is the joy that I learned: that what I think about me, what I want for me, who I am for me… That’s the most important thing. I want to leave you with this with as a woman: Age for YOU. If you want to go the botox route, then go for it, you age that way. If you want to go the natural route, then you age that way. Because the sheer joy, the place where I look the best, is when I age for *me.* You can age for you. Now’s a good time to start. . . . . #geetasidhurobb #storytime #botox #plasticsurgery #cosmeticsurgery #aging #botoxfiller #agingnaturally #skin #skincare #perimenopause #menopause #selfcare #selfrespect #selflove #bodyimage #bodydysmorphia #ambitionbonding #agingwell #agingskin #inspirational #femininepower #genderstereotypes #carousel #womeninbusiness #womenempoweringwomen #beautystandards #conventionallyattractive

My plan for the afternoon went south when I woke up and saw a text that meant I had to do an errand that took more time than I could afford. So with decent weather and a box sorted to go somewhere I wasn't going to stay at home. I did consider changing to something other than my fave dress but after working out what I was going to do, I figured to wear this fave as to my mind it's a good balance between respectful and colourful. . I've been building a list of chapels and churches I'd like to visit. This little chapel looked interesting on google streetview and altho it was less than 20 miles from me, the route was mostly along narrow roads and rarely above 30mph. . Anyway the reason I wanted to process the pics so quickly and upload was that when I was driving along (enfemme incl heels as usual) a farmer in a big 4x4 pulled out of a farm yard without looking at a similar speed to me. Luckily I had enough space to react. I vigorously used my horn but he just waved and carried on. Thing is if I had been alongside him as he came out my car would have been totalled and his would probably have had little damage. Now if I breakdown whilst on enfemme I can change quickly if I wish and sod whoever sees me or just change to better footwear and push to car off the road but to have an intense confrontation with someone who might be bigoted, I'm certainly glad it didn't happen but it could happen in the future. I don't pass like many of my trans friends (and I don't try to pass as it's not for me). . Anyway the quaint chapel had signs that it was no longer used for worship and was undergoing some renovation work. The inside still had basic seating but looked a mess. There was a house the other side of the hedge behind the camera and a guy came out but thankfully he didn't hear me. . But that church! Nothing special on the outside but what a clever and spectacular ceiling, gorgeous woodwork throughout, a lovely stone floor and a fabulous 'non-religious' stain glass window. I put a comment in the visitor book as "Romile", yeah 🥰 (another first). . #genderstereotypes #menindresses #floraldress #chapelphotography #churchphotography #woodeninterior #amazingceiling #woodwork

I love books that break down gender stereotypes! Gender stereotypes are harmful to everyone. There are so many ways to be a girl, so many ways to be a boy, and so many people in our world who exist beyond the gender binary. When we push gender stereotypes on children, we are limiting their opportunities to express themselves and to discover their true selves. I firmly believe that we must follow our children’s leads and affirm their self-expressive choices. Nail Polish Is Too For Boys! by Emma-Claire Sunday, illustrated by Caitlin O’Dwyer, is a perfect example of affirming a child’s choices and breaking gender stereotypes. I really appreciated that the child in this book, Alex, never faced an adult (or another child) who told him that he couldn’t wear nail polish. All of his hesitation came from within - his own internalization of gender stereotypes. It was lovely to watch those internalized fears melt away as he felt his true colors shine through and was affirmed by his father and brother. (Along those lines, I loved the representation of a single dad with his two sons! It’s not confirmed that he’s a single dad, but a second parent is never introduced, and the bond between the dad and his sons is emphasized.) This wonderful book releases on Tuesday, April 30th! Link to preorder is in my stories today. Whatever industry we work in, women deserve equal opportunities to earn equal pay. But that is simply not the reality. Analysis published a few weeks ago by claims.co.uk showed which jobs have the largest gender pay gaps in the UK. Unsurprisingly, the biggest pay gaps are in professions dominated by gender stereotypes - finance, law, manufacturing and tech. We need to see real change to make closing the gender pay gap a reality. Are you surprised by this list? Tell us what you think in the comments 👇 #GenderPayGap #EqualPay #GenderStereotypes

Looking at these photos I was reminded of how often I was told, ‘Don’t cry like a girl.’ As if those tears shed any less honestly by gender. Is holding back tears a mark of strength? Is fighting your bodily need to express, a smart thing to do? This phrase, seemingly harmless, carried a heavy burden of expectations—associating sensitivity and vulnerability with weakness. But here’s the truth: expressing emotions is a fundamental aspect of being human. It’s who we are. Suppressing emotions to conform to the ‘tough man’ archetype can lead to deep-seated resentment and emotional disconnect. It’s time we dismantle these outdated norms and promote emotional expression across all genders as a sign of strength and intelligence. Let’s redefine strength. Let’s teach our children that it’s okay to cry, to feel, to be vulnerable. These are not signs of weakness, but of emotional intelligence and resilience. It’s time to shed the weight of these harmful clichés and embrace our emotions as they are: natural, necessary, and human. Let’s create a world where expressions of emotion are met with empathy, not judgment. . It doesn't matter how many times I hear the stereotypes and expectations from the young women in our workshops, I'm always blown away by their ability to articulate their experiences. 🤯 . I was sat at the back of the room recently, observing Sezzy & Gina's workshop and I decided to write down some of the pressures and expectations that the students were voicing. . I had run a workshop less than an hour before, and so many of the same, sad realities were shared. It doesn't matter where or when we go, women all over the country, young and old, are experiencing the same things, over and over again. . When women aren’t limited by what they’re “supposed to be”, they get to author their tomorrow. Because I was strutting along a promenade just above the gardens, I thought I'd upload the garden pics at the same time. Admittedly there's not a great deal to look at the castle and altho I'd like to have more time to wander around the grounds outside of the castle, like many other places I've been to in the past, it'll be the garden in full bloom that'll be the draw to get me to return in the future. . #genderstereotypes #pushingboundaries #menindresses #feelinggirly #floraldress #kenilworthcastlegardens

During their visit in Tirana they met with Gender focal points from across Europe, the Mediterranean and Central Asia exchanging perspectives on gender equality and sport. Especially Steffi was highlighting her passion for football and its role in strengthening gender equality: “Stand up for your opinions and for your rights. […] It’s always about values, respect, fairness, equality, diversity and sports lives that - mostly.”. This resonated with the interactive spirit of the S4D session on the role of sport in tackling gender stereotypes, which was supported by our local partners, teachers, trainers and students from Tirana from @epokaere @info.fshs Inspiring exchanges and good discussions on different perspectives triggered by our S4D input were embraced with positive vibes on and off the pitch! ⚽️ #EURO2024 #GenderEquality #SportsForAll #genderstereotypes #sportsforchange

Rain Dove Dubilewski is an American model, actor, and activist known for their work in gender nonconformity. Rain identifies as agender; this means they do not recognize themselves as either male or female and reports having no preference in pronoun usage. Becoming a symbol for gender identity struggles and an icon of inclusivity, Rain participates in photo shoots, productions, and fashion shows in both "male" and "female" roles, showing us how the concept of "gender" is entirely relative. Went out for some moonlight photography. Ultimately it wasn't as successful as I would have wished. This is probably the best of the pics I got (no light enhancement here, just a live pic). As usual I struggled to recreate the real lighting conditions on the night especially with many of the other pics (to come in due course). To my mind this pic is a little darker than in reality. . The dress I was wearing is a favourite for low light photography. It’s a dotty (and floral) fabric. In this pic (to my mind) there’s a hint of the spots showing, or perhaps that’s because I’m reminding myself of the the original full size pic. . There is a major junction just behind the mobile (camera) and tripod, with an island just behind the tripod. I thought at 23.30 I'd be fine, however... The junction is off a fast section of A road and cars are afforded the ability through road design to not reduce their speed as they turn off via a long sweeping off ramp and up this incline. I had parked my car in an awkward spot on the off ramp but leaving enough room for cars to pass (mainly because it was the only conceivable place to park and in hindsight it presented a warning to any approaching car, at least that's what I thought). Only one car passed as I was there but it was going really far too fast, and altho they made a good job of avoiding my car, they got far too close for comfort to my tripod as I was trotting in heels and failed to get to it to move it in time. Luckily they didn't hit it but it was close. . Edit. In hindsight I was totally at fault. No question. With my car parked on the inside of the long corner the driver would have naturally been pushed to the outside of the curve and hence nearer to me. Even with full beam headlights because I was a dark object, possibly hidden behind my car regards line of sight, I would be at fault. I should have had hazard lights on the car and a hi-viz vest attached to my tripod. Lesson learned. . It was also very cold, initially 4-5 degrees Celsius but dropping to 1 or 2 degrees later as I went higher and far beyond mobile coverage. . #genderstereotypes #menindresses #moonlightphotography #roadjunction #nighttime #moonlight

Pink Trucks by Sam Clarke Illustrated by Cory Reid AD | PR 🚚 Blog Tour Day 6 🚚 🩷 It’s no secret that I’m not a fan of pink. I don’t like being told what colour I should wear or like or dress my child in, particularly if it’s based on a gender stereotype. 🩷 Stink loves trucks. These trucks are huge, fast and noisy. They are black, blue and red. But they are NOT pink. Stink would like to have a pink truck, but when he looks in the shop, there are none to be found anywhere. None of his friends have a pink truck; instead they remind Stink of the ‘colour rules’ – pink is for lots of things like flamingos, pigs and worms, but not trucks. Stink thinks this is silly, so he decides to do something about it! 🩷 How many times have we heard parents say that their child no longer likes their favourite colour, because been told that ‘pink is a girls’ colour’ etc at school? Pink Trucks is a brilliant book to help combat these gender stereotypes. It shows children that all colours are for everyone; I particularly like how Stink refuses to accept the ‘colour rules’ and shows strength of character to follow his own likes. I also really like the positive reactions of Stink’s friends, focusing on what Stink has made, rather than its colour. This is great in terms of celebrating creativity, imagination and junk modelling! 🩷 Did you know? As an interesting aside, pink was not seen as a ‘girls’ colour until the 1940s. In fact, in Victorian times, boys used to be dressed in pink! Great for: ✅ Challenging gender stereotypes ✅ Supportive friendships ✅ Encouraging creativity and imagination Many thanks to @fivequillsforkids and @caffwardbooks for our review copy and for asking us to be part of the tour. ✏️ @samclarke.xyz 🎨 @coryreid_illustration 📚 @fivequillsforkids #pinktrucks #blogtour #booktour #instatour #booksforlittlebookworms #genderstereotypes #pink #pinkisforall #picturebooks #bookswelove #booksforteachers #ks1 #eyfs

Sandeep Reddy Vanga directed 'Animal,' which was released last year and earned over ₹900 crores at the box office. The film was a blockbuster but faced considerable criticism for its portrayal of violence against women. Prior to 'Animal,' Sandeep Reddy Vanga directed 'Kabir Singh,' a Hindi remake of the Telugu film 'Arjun Reddy.' This film was also a blockbuster but received backlash for its portrayal of misogyny. Recently, actor Adil Hussain criticized 'Kabir Singh' during an interview, expressing regret for his involvement in the film. He mentioned that such movies celebrate elements that are not beneficial for society and validate misogyny. Adil also expressed embarrassment about being associated with the film and hoped that his wife would not watch it either. His statement about 'Kabir Singh' has sparked considerable debate. Sandeep Reddy Vanga, seemingly offended by this, responded to Adil Hussain's comment on Twitter, stating, "Your 'faith' in 30 art films didn't bring you as much fame as your 'regret' from one blockbuster film did. I regret casting you, knowing that your greed is greater than your passion. Now, I'll change your face with the help of AI to save you from embarrassment. We are seeking 40 primary schools in England to take part in our innovative project to pilot an evidence-based curriculum for all KS2 children to promote gender equality and challenge gender stereotypes. The pilot starts in Autumn Term 2024, and is part of the Global Boyhood Initiative, coordinated by Equimundo. We are offering free online training and support to help schools implement ‘Beyond Gender Stereotypes’ effectively and support teachers’ professional development. To find out more about the pilot, how to get involved and to sign up to the FREE webinar on 30th April, 4pm - 4.30pm, head to link in bio! We look forward to seeing lots of you there! #GenderEquality #GenderStereotypes #BeyondGenderStereotypes #RaisingGirls #RaisingBoys #Parents #Teachers #Education #ChallengingStereotypes #LiftingLimits #teachingbeyondstereotypes #KS2 #teacheradvisorygroup #GlobalBoyhoodInitiative #GBI

Pics from Kenilworth Castle. . I'm annoyed. It appears D&D (the dress manufacturer) have deleted my last post wearing this dress from hashtag D&D. Clearly they didn't like something in my comment, despite IMO there being some delightful pics of me. I didn't think I was scathing, just honest. If you scroll through the pics on that hashtag page you'll find a video of me walking at a church which had far less likes than the post they deleted. So going forward, even tho I love their dresses, I won't be adding hashtag D&D. Sod 'em. It's not like I've had any extra likes from being on that hashtag page (as far as I can tell). . There was a time I had hoped to get on their website, and the same with some other dress manufacturers, just for being different, as in them celebrating the diversity of life. But clearly I'm not the demographic that the bulk of these companies' sales go to, and I wonder if there's some element of low level bigotry involved. If I was famous I would imagine they'd have me on their website but I'm not, and if I did become famous... well I dislike it when fame gets you preferential treatment. D&D does have trans individuals prominent on their hashtag page, including one who gets regular gifted items, but they pass convincingly and fabulously as female, whereas I look like a guy in a dress. This links in (as I write this) with my previous post, wondering if things are as free as we'd wish or am I, like some others, just tolerated. . #genderstereotypes #pushingboundaries #menindresses #floraldress #kenilworthcastle #pinkheels #gingerwig #enfemme #youbeyou #gender #tolerated #annoyed #justbeyou #castlephotography #englishheritage

Sam has been Ballroom dancing since he was seven years old. 🕺 . "I was introduced to the sport by my brother, he had performed socially before moving into the competitive space. I originally took it up out of competitive sibling rivalry - the younger brother mentality: wanting to be better than my older brother. . Competition has kept me in the sport and I developed an appreciation of the art and the health benefits that come along with it! . I was quite a sporty kid growing up; AusKick, MiloCricket, Club Tennis, school soccer, the list goes on of conventional 'male' sports - everything you'd expect of a country boy. Dancing on the other hand, lay outside of that stereotype. . When I took up the sport, I was open to my close friends from the beginning. I was fortunate enough to bypass any bullying or judgement at a young age. . It wasn’t until high school that I had my first experiences of bullies. . Approached by two boys trying to intimidate me, asking in a mocking tone "How's the dancing going?" Proud as ever, I told them "Great thank you! I just competed and finished Top 3 in my category!" Not the outcome they'd hoped for. . I had been given words of warning in the past to be careful who I shared my hobbies with, but fortuntely for me I have always used my success and confidence to my advantage and been an open book about my career. . Having won over 10 national titles, represented Australia and won many other awards, I never felt the need to shy away from sharing my love of dancing. . University has definitely been the most accepting environment for me, with many people embracing it and keen to learn, but I am also aware that, unfortunately, this is not the case for many men in the dance industry and many experience negativity for doing something outside of the typical male stereotype. . I genuinely believe that my pride in my sport, and experience in other sports in general paved way for the positive experience I have had outside of my dance studio, with friends, family, and any new people I continue to meet! - Sam .

Participants in a study day organized on April 16 in Rabat by the Higher Council for Education, Training and Scientific Research (CSEFRS), under the theme “The gender approach in the education system: towards a transition for greater fairness and equal opportunities", stressed the need to launch national campaigns aimed at combating gender stereotypes. The recommendations presented at the end of this study day by educational inspector and CSEFRS member, Malika Daafouzat, include conducting sociological and anthropological studies in the field to identify the factors contributing to disparities in academic performance. “Hello, so I bought my daughter this snazaroo face painting hit from Hamley’s today. Apparently girls can’t be tigers, pirates, dinosaurs or cars, and boys can’t be butterflies or peacocks or wear jewelry… 🤦🏼‍♀️” Thanks Shawna for sharing with us Snazaroo have definitely made improvements in their packaging/ads over the years since the stark pink/blue divide seen in our early days of campaigning. However, this insert is disappointing to see - no reason to divide interests like this @snazarookids! Please let children have the freedom to choose the face paint design they would like, without being told certain images are only for boys or only for girls. #lettoysbetoys #letfacepaintsbefacepaints 🎨 #kids #facepaint #facepainting #snazaroo #genderstereotypes #snazaroofacepaint #raisingkids #raisingboys #raisinggirls #facepaintersofinstagram #hamleys #hamleystoystore #facepainters #smashstereotypes

Sorry forgot to exaggerate my smile so it would show externally. Anyway out and about taking pics at some local churches. Had to stop in Brecon for coffee and cake. Wishing I’d worn a thinner pair of tights. It’s cold when the wind catches me but I’ve ditched my jacket and did contemplate taking off the tights. Auto hashtag is struggling today. Dodgy coverage probably. Wonder if this will fail to upload. . #genderstereotypes #menindresses #pushingboundaries #dollyanddotty #floraldress

I can’t wait for everyone to meet this fashion designer fairy called FRED! For a while, Fred only existed in the land of imagination, until @stefmurf brought him, fabulously fully-formed, to life! As a child, my favourite stories were magical fairytales but I rarely saw myself reflected in the casts of characters. A FAIRY CALLED FRED is a story for all the little Freds out there and for anyone who feels fairy dust sparkling inside them like I do! Publishing in June with @bloomsburychildrens and available to pre-order now! 🧚🏽‍♂️🪡✨ #KidLit #WritingCommunity #pride #newbook #picturebook #bookgifts #booksforchildren #childrensbooks #childrensbook #kidsbooks #readmorebooks #bookstagram #book #books #instabook #instabooks #reading #fashion #fairy #fairytale #dress #picturebooks #picturebookauthor #picturebookillustration #inclusivechildrensbooks #genderstereotypes #authors #childrensbooksofinstagram
