May 2023- Despite getting a cast for an incident at the airport the day before, Lucas dragged himself (with gentle coaxing) to the start line & won the race in his very special ‘arm in a cast’ category. 🏃♂️ "Nicolas, pourquoi tu nous mens sur tes temps de course ?" 🕒 Je vois parfois des commentaires me demandant pourquoi mes temps de course semblent différents de ceux affichés officiellement. Alors, c'est le moment de clarifier comment ça fonctionne vraiment ! Lorsque tu participes à des semis ou des marathons, le temps officiel qui s'affiche à l'arrivée correspond au temps brut, c’est-à-dire le temps écoulé depuis le coup de pistolet pour les élites. Mais qu'en est-il pour les coureurs comme moi qui ne sont pas dans le premier SAS ? Les marathons, comme ceux de Paris, Genève ou Prague que j'ai courus, utilisent des SAS de départ. Ces SAS sont organisés pour gérer le flux des participants et pour des raisons de sécurité. Chaque SAS a un temps de départ différent, ce qui signifie que mon temps personnel ou temps net, peut être bien différent du temps brut. Par exemple, si je suis dans un SAS qui part 10 minutes après les élites, mon chrono personnel ne commencera à compter qu’à ce moment-là ! J'ai toujours été transparent sur mes performances, et mes temps officiels témoignent de mon engagement et de mon intégrité en tant que coureur. Les photos de mes marathons à Paris, Genève et Prague montrent clairement cette différence entre le temps net et le temps officiel affiché à l'arrivée. Mon premier marathon : Une épreuve intense ! Des entraînements avec un corps douloureux et épuisé, j’y avais été confronté, mais cette difficulté là, je ne l’avais jamais ressentie. Le jour de la course mon corps était prêt, les douleurs à la jambe que j’avais traînées depuis des semaines avaient disparues. Malheureusement, dans l’euphorie, je fais un début de course beaucoup trop rapide et mes jambes se tétanisent au km 18. Je poursuis comme je peux, j’oublie les allures cibles, je marche des fois pendant quelques secondes pour soulager mes jambes. C’est à ce moment là que le mental prend le relai, j’ai lutté contre les pensées négatives et me suis répétée que la douleur était éphémère et l’échec définitif, que j’avais la chance d’avoir deux bras, deux jambes et que tant que je pouvais mettre un pied devant l’autre, je n’avais pas le droit d’abandonner. La solidarité entre coureurs a été précieuse, les encouragements du public mais surtout le soutien de ma famille qui m’a porté au km 8, 15, 30, 32, 38 jusqu’à l’arrivée. J’avais promis de partager un peu plus ma préparation cette fois-ci mais j’avais oublié que préparer un marathon ne laisse pas beaucoup de temps libre. Alors c’est parti, quelques jours après le Generali Genève Marathon voilà en quelques lignes un résumé des 4 premiers mois de 2024. Ma prépa a duré 16 semaines avec 3 entraînements par semaine. Une sortie longue, la plupart du temps en endurance fondamentale, un footing de récupération, toujours en endurance fondamentale et un fractionné. 16 semaines c’est clairement trop long pour moi, j ai ressenti de la fatigue à la fin. Pour mon premier marathon ma prépa était de 12 semaines et c’était un peu court. Donc, si prochaine fois il y a, j’essaierai une prépa en 14 semaines….J’ai réussi à me tenir à ces trois entraînements malgré une tendinite de la patte d’oie avec l’aide de mon physio et mon ostéo. Beaucoup de renforcement musculaire pour mon genou, beaucoup de Pilates bien évidemment. Résultat un marathon en 4h25 à mon rythme, sans douleur et surtout sans crampes contrairement au premier. Est-ce que je suis prête à le refaire? Bien évidemment! Mais il faut penser aux autres challenges que je me suis fixés ces prochains mois. Plus de cours de Pilates en premier lieu! Geneva Marathon ✅. 22nd marathon, 12th abroad. 10th attempt at going for a sub 3:30 outside of the UK and I've finally done it! Eight years since my first marathon so it feels like a relief more than anything to get this in the bag. Not sure why I've struggled so much when overseas, but this time I managed to keep the pace and successfully hit a negative split. No idea how either as I felt like I would hit the wall at any moment from 21-32km, but then I got a second wind and almost cruised to the finish. Negative splits work, who knew!? First #medalmonday of 2024 after 26.2 miles around Geneva yesterday 🏅 The race started off feeling great, not too bothered about pace, but instead trying to work at a set heart rate and go on feel. Unfortunately, after almost 27km of feeling strong and being on for a time I would have been over the moon with, with one stride I got a sudden pain in my right quad, which then started spasming. After that, protecting my leg from further damage was way more important than a time, so I was just jogging gently and walking for the remainder of the route 👣 I know it was the right decision, but nonetheless, I couldn't help but feel disappointed. I tried to adjust my mindset and just enjoy the views and the atmosphere after that. Can’t believe I completed my first half marathon (21 km). More so as I really did not have much practice time as I had hoped for - will put that on work😄. I knew it would but hard but boy oh boy 🥵😄 By far the most challenging experience physically, mentally, and emotionally⚡️ Rain for first 18km, first thoughts of stopping around 28km, near emotional breakdown around 35km, and running on empty for the last half hour or so🪫 Four months ago I couldn’t do 5k at the pace in which I averaged the whole marathon yesterday - that’s what commitment, consistent action, and letting your future goal dictate your present behaviors is all about🎯 Believe in yourself, we’re all more powerful and capable than we give ourselves credit for! #genevamarathon

The habit of going around European cities and running half or full marathons there we have got into last year! It’s a wonderful way to discover cities, even the ones you have been to before! Make new friends, rediscover old ones, get to know the cities like never before and of course challenge yourself in new ways, maintain mental and physical health and of course the only reasons we really do it - is to get a medal 🥇 at the end and to drink wine 🍷 at the end 🍾💃🍷🏃 Geneva half marathon was an easy course over all, not many hills, quite flat and enjoyable. We ran past a few villages just outside of Geneva, along beautiful vineyards, Geneva Lake, crossing a few bridges and finishing at the iconic Mont Blanc Bridge 🌉 It was tougher for me to run thins one, as I already new I was not as prepared for it as I was for the Budapest one. Winter running took its toll, 😊 didn’t do enough long runs, interval running and had a few enjuries along the way (nothing to do with running itself by the way, just falling down the stairs a lot 😂😂). So we took it slow and and the 13 km I got a stich and after it passed I could not really get back to the same speed. However I still really enjoyed it, we had another beautiful blond joining our running tribe! Geneva, Switzerland📍 Day 3 in Switzerland and by coincidence I watched for the first time a marathon and it was incredible! (so emotional) shout out to all the people that ran Geneva’s marathon! 💪🏻😮💨👏🏼 Today we visited the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN), is free to entry and they have very cool interactive activities to learn more about what they do and how they do it. We also visited some of the most recommended places in Geneva like St Pierre Cathedral, the Reformation wall, the flower clock, the water fountain and the United Nations, of course. @geneve_marathon 2025. Finally, I can say I ran a marathon! To be pedantic, I had to stop at around 18km to pee and re-tie my shorts, and I had to stop very briefly at the feed stations to drink (so it went in my mouth and not all over me!), but otherwise, with the effort my support team went to to get me there (not just today but over the last 16 weeks of training) in mind, and being determined not to let the 4h15m pacers catch up with me, I managed to dig deep and keep putting one foot in front of the other, one kilometre at a time. And my reward for all that, a spanky new marathon PB! I'd set myself 5 goals of different levels: - Finish in under 4 hours ❌️ - Run all the way ✅️ - Finish with an overall pace faster than 6:00/km ✅️ - Beat my previous PB ✅️ - Cross the finish line ✅️ My experience the last couple of years meant that I never really expected to be able to finish in under 4 hours, but I'm well pleased and a little surprised that I managed to achieve all 4 of the others, I thought I was still over-reaching! Is that all good enough to bow out of marathon running on a high? Yes! Or maybe no. Hey! It's me. And yes I'm still running even though I haven't been posting about it for a while. Last Geneva Half I ended up in the medical tent with a heat stroke and not remembering the last 3k of the course ( I still can't believe I managed to pause the watch before fainting). It was scary and it really stopped me from running half marathons in general for while. But thanks to @running_with_jasper I managed to overcome my fears. I have to give kudos to the most reliable coach ever (even if sometimes your encouragement words annoy me the most🩵). We both know I wouldn't have done it without your little push on the weekends to go for a long run. Anyway, long story short...I did finish it this time! It went from 1:58 + fainting to a solid 1:39:25. It really feels like magic! I can't thank Jasper enough for really pushing me to overcome my worst running fear and push me to enjoy it again. I might be a grumpy runner but for sure I felt really happy and grateful at the end. And this is it. End of my blabbery. Crossing over into #Switzerland, the clouds parted allowing the Alps a chance to show off. I am in love... Geneva is an exceptionally beautiful city, with an amazing vibe. We spent a few hours this morning visiting the fountain and exploring the lake shore while we waited for our rooms to be ready. Napped for a few hours and then was off this evening to explore the other side of the lake and check out an exhibit by #FreedomCartoonists. Headed back across the lake for dinner from the food trucks at the end of the #GenevaMarathon, rambled a little, met some great new people, talked water quite a bit and now off to bed... I need a wee nap!
