So I’ve had some problems with my newest alocasia (alocasia lauterbachiana). She started loosing lots of leaves. I thought it was just due to acclimation to new soil and climate. Easy to say that wasn’t the case. When I doubt check the roots. The roots were rotting which wasn’t the worst part, the majority of the bulb was mushy and rotted away. I was about to save a few small pups that didn’t seem too be affected so finger crossed that those guys decide to live. The momma plant is currently propagating in water, not super hopeful she’ll live :/. If you need help diagnosing a plant issue send me a message with photos and a description of what’s happening. Hi Instafam! 👋 Past few posts has just been about money so I’d like to talk about my little side project. It is definitely not a side hustle because I am definitely not earning money from it unless it grows really big. Again, I do not see this happening anytime soon. What is it you ask? It’s a Vegetable Garden! I decided to try out my luck with growing some tomatoes because it appears to be easy to grow, low maintenance and all you need to do is remember to water it. I am also growing some basil, some spring onions and trying my luck with avocadoes. Garlic as well because some of my uneaten bulbs had been sprouting. I just hope I have an ok-thumb and not a black thumb. Fingers crossed for my Archboldiana’s please! Both are struggling. I lost my big Archboldiana this past summer while we were in Sri Lanka, and the replacement I bought was not super healthy to begin with. It arrived with dead roots 😖 but it was a decent size plant and I was able to reroot but it’s struggled and I haven’t got any new leaves. When I checked this morning … sure enough the roots were dead again. So I’m restarting it. I might look for a healthier plant down the road. Canary bird… No Chapel updates to sing about this evening, instead I wanted to share this little rose and why it is now doubly special to me. This little rose arrived on the doorstep after a series of things went bit haywire. It should have arrived on the doorstop belonging to @compton_randle to replace one which I gave her but arrived a bit under par. Fortunately the lovely people at @david_austin_roses have sorted the issue by letting me keep mine and sending another replacement. Now we are rose twins! This rose has a very special place in my family as it was cultivated by my great grandfather John Russell (2nd picture) who was an award winning nurseryman who followed in his father’s footsteps. My Great Great Grandfather (3rd pic) was also award winning and both of them were recognised with the Victoria Medal of Honour for services to horticulture. He also cultivated “Ann Russell” viburnum. Will save the other family claim to fame for another day! I was welcomed into a club today by a friend (sister) of over 40 years. A club I chose not to join but whose membership is thrust upon its unsuspecting victims. No doubt my actual sister was welcomed by a few as well. A club I hope my children never get membership to before they’re old and maybe even unaware of being part of. They say dementia is a horrible disease that robs its own members of their memories but I argue maybe that’s better in so many ways. Not being continually reminded daily of the losses you’ve suffered might outweigh losing the memories of the joys you’ve accrued along the way. I don’t know. I’m no philosopher. Just a mom without a mom trying to figure it out everyday for 20 years now. But I tried to make a happier day of it by planting my vegetable garden-that being something we used to do together every spring and summer. Mind you we planted 1 tomato plant and 1 cucumber plant every year and put a tiny fence around it and prayed so by no means did it compare to the space I can devote to multiple veggies now but that little 2 square foot piece of backyard was a wonderful spot. Anything that grew tasted THE BEST. Similar to now, I plant and pray. If I’m meant to harvest, it will grow. And it still tastes THE BEST. So our Mr. crazy 4yrs old’s favourite is, grab an apple and take a few bites, and leave it somewhere 😆 last week he did it again. I didn’t want to waste it so I wrapped it and put it in our fridge for a couple days, then decided to chop it up smaller and offer them as snack... When I cut it in half, I saw these…! At first glance I totally thought this Apple had a ton of worms 🐛 inside and freaked out, but these white stuff were all from seeds - yes they had sprouted inside before I cut this 😂 of course me being a plant lover decided to plant these in a pot, and now they are getting a little bigger!
