Loosely depicting the 1963 rivalry between cereal revolutionaries Kellogg’s and Post, what could’ve been a sharp satire on marketing/commercialism (Jerry Seinfeld’s directorial-debut, no less) turns out to be a painfully bad, childish excursion. Built on a promising premise, and potentially enjoyable for those looking for absurdist comedy. Yet the result is legitimately not even fun enough to serve as “guilty pleasure” escapism... Likewise, a star-studded gaggle of comedians are pretty much wasted in the aftermath. McCarthy, Schumer, Gaffigan, and so much other talent give this grotty material their all; and while the film pronounces itself as a recollection of an actual event, unfortunately it loses steam in its decision to aim for directionless lunacy. I saw ‘Eraser’ at the drive-in on a double feature with ‘A Time to Kill’ and I don’t think I’ve seen it since. It’s a very odd pairing but I remember enjoying them both, even though they are very different films. No. 92 - Eraser (1996) - Pushing 20 years since I last saw this, more than likely cut to ribbons, so was cool to see it completely uncut in all it's alligator-ripping-off-arms-and-heads glory. It's wildly over the top and super violent in that classic Arnie way that needs to make a comeback. It's oft considered the last true Arnie action film and it's hard to argue with. He's having a blast snapping necks and blowing people away and he even gets plenty of one-liners, one that is directed towards an alligator. Superb craic. It is very ropey with special effects, a drab support and a fairly lacklustre plot beyond the super sci-fi guns, but still immense violent fun for 2hrs. An interesting movie that has some early Coen brothers vibes going on. While I don't think #maggiemoores quite reaches those heights, this is still an engaging well executed story with a stellar cast. Basic story revolves around an extremely down on his luck man who hires a hitman to intimidate his wife into submission so that she won't divorce him nor report his crimes and/or accomplices. Of course, the hitman does what a hitman will do and kills her. This starts an investigation into the widower and delays the much needed insurance payment from his wife's death. Running out of options, he comes up with a ridiculous idea to have the hitman kill another woman who happens to have the same exact name as his deceased wife to push suspicion off himself. The hitman complies as long as he is still getting paid. Investigating these surprising deaths and murders in this small town is the local sheriff who is going through some personal issues. He and his deputy do their due diligence in finding the killer while dealing with small town quirks and issues. They eventually manage to stumble upon the killer leading to some unfortunate deaths and a bit of a shootout. Even so, a form of justice is served to all parties involved. Genuinely, an enjoyable watch and some great performances by the cast. Movie: Ant-Man (2015) Director: Peyton Reed Rating: 8/10 Review: Ant-Man is a superhero film in the MCU starring Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas about a former crook who is recruited by an old scientist to become the next Ant-Man and steal some tech to save the world. I believe this movie is heavily underrated by most. It might even be in my top 10 MCU movies tbh. Maybe top 15. Because this movie is just a whole lot of fun. It’s one of the funniest MCU films, has some great characters, and the shrinking tech makes for tons of cool scenes. It also has a good emotional core with Scott’s love for his daughter. The Avengers references are pretty cool and I remember getting very excited about them in the movie theater when I first saw this. It’s a shame the other Ant-Man movies don’t even come close to being as good as this one (in fact the other two are probably in my bottom 10 MCU movies). But this first one is a fun time, and that’s probably because the majority of it is more like a heist film, which is different from all these other superhero movies. I’d definitely recommend this movie if you haven’t seen it, but you can skip its two sequels. I give Ant-Man an 8/10 overall.
