Il existe une très longue tradition concernant la miellée de bruyère callune à la Maison Fedon, datant d’il y a plus de 50 ans. Nous sommes très peu d’apiculteurs à s’y intéresser en Limousin : miellée trop aléatoire, trop fastidieuse, trop compliquée, trop peu rentable, trop coûteuse en équipements spécifiques, trop délicate, etc… Trop rare aussi. Today's history lesson Eliza style: Our village "Ljunghusen" (if you translate it to English) means "the heather houses". "Ljunghusen"/"Heather houses" refers to the large big heath/moor covered with heather, "Skanörs Ljung", today a nature reserve. . Ljunghusen has originally been named after two houses 🏡🏡 (now long gone) built in the beginning of the 19th century, north of the main road to Skanör-Falsterbo, approximately a little south of the former railway station house here (probably where the little ICA Ljungskogen supermarket is today). These two houses had their own chapter in the parish register already in 1837. . This is the same kind of heather as in Great Britain. In Scotland 🏴 it is called "ling heather" for example. And we COMPLETED IT! 💪💪 Lyke Wake Walk - 40 miles and 4200ft ascent ⚰️🥾 From start to finish it was the most incredible day, sunrise, sunset, good food and the best company. We couldn't of asked for better conditions bar being eaten by midges and the night sky was aglow with a blanket of stars. A challenge like this takes some serious grit and determination, you all worked as a team and made that finish line. The day was perfect and that was down to an amazing team and the best volunteers I could of asked for. Shortly after bagging the trig at West Nab, I headed along the ridge towards Raven Rocks and Holly Bank Moss before dropping back down to the Pennine Way at Leyzing Clough. Photos here are of the panoramic views from the trig at West Nab and what I enjoyed from Raven Rocks. From here I could see across Wessenden Moor to Wessenden Head reservoir and a little further along the way, Wessenden Brook leading to Wessenden reservoir. Here I passed a Pennine Way hiker heading south. He looked shattered at 18:20. Capturing the beautiful Mountain Hares amongst the Ling heather. There is only a very short period when this is achievable. The vibrant purples a wonderful backdrop for the hares. You've only a week or so before the colours will soon fade and Autumn shades will be the images to obtain. Summer shades will disappear and the finest days will come, Autumn & Winter. Yesterday was wonderful as I finally got to spend a couple of hours with a very young Mountain Hare. When does a leveret become a small, young mountain hare? I'll leave that one with you.
