Why is this so hard? I have asked myself that question almost every day for more than 6 years. Motherhood has been so many things for me. The quiet anticipation of waiting for those 2 lines to appear… followed by an overwhelming anxiety in knowing nothing will ever be the same again. Experiencing the deepest euphoria those first few moments after meeting my babies… alongside delirious exhaustion and hormone ridden emotions for weeks and months after. Feeling touched out… but never wanting to let them go. Desperately craving time to myself… but missing them with every ounce of my being when I’m away. Daily experience of frustration so extreme that I become a version of myself I hate… and they still request cuddles and “I love you”s at bedtime. How the days sometimes go so slow, but the years pass too fast… I find myself looking into my childrens eyes wondering how they grew up so fast. How we can remember every first. But in a cruel twist of fate can never know when our last experience of something will be… I find myself clinging to each moment for the fear that I may not experience it again. I’ve never felt so much sadness, deep grief, loss and fear as I have since becoming a mother. To be completely and unconditionally loved by someone, and to love someone that way… when some days I don’t know how to even love myself. And I’m comforted by words of my faith: “Consider it pure joy whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” Isn’t that motherhood? You can if you want to, it helps you, it works well for you. You do not have to base your vacation around your workout routine. That week off will not destroy your progress, your routine, your goals. Your workouts, fitness, exercise routine is meant to provide you the strength and energy to enjoy vacation! First, Many of our traveling vacations involve moving our bodies! Walking, sightseeing, picking up and moving luggage, carrying and chasing kids, going up and down stairs, hiking, trying out fun new or long loved activities. Next! If your vacation involves relaxing, resting, recuperating. There is powerful impact in giving ourselves and our bodies time to refresh. And often we come back stronger by taking a short break. There is no guilt in enjoying your vacation. Enjoy it! Know that the fitness, nutrition, health, & wellbeing routine that you build within everyday life will support you during vacation, time out of routine, and schedule changes. And vice versa! You can make choices that still support your health while on vacation -and truly prioritizing enjoying vacation. How can you still prioritize your health without stress while traveling? -Find the small things within your routine that are doable and support you through your travels. -Take a moment to reconnect with your physical self. Maybe a short stretch and wiggle -Take note of your overall food choices. Noticing if you haven’t had a variety of nutrients, and making a choice to include them when you can. -Move your body as feels good! Maybe that is walking, stretching, dancing, getting a massage, and maybe it is getting into the gym or busting out a 15 minute workout in the hotel room. You are fully capable of getting back into that routine, Of making choices that still support your health and self, and of choosing to not beat yourself up for taking time off. We workout, prioritize our health so that we can enjoy life more! Let’s build your strong & adaptable routine that you can maintain, shift, and get going again through vacations, traveling, busy times, family events, and everything in between. You didn’t get to this place overnight. So why do you expect the reverse to be different? Coaching nutrition is so frustrating sometimes. Coaching fitness, or personal training, is so much easier. Clients feel good almost immediately after starting workouts. EVEN IF the results aren’t actually there, the endorphins trick your brain into thinking that instant progress is being made. The same isn’t true for nutrition. You don’t get an endorphin boost from tracking your food, or adjusting your calories, or cutting out your unhealthy habits. In fact, the opposite usually happens. And it takes WEEKS, MONTHS, and YEARS of consistent hard work to see true and lasting progress on a nutrition plan. But didn’t it take you weeks and months and years of poor habits and unhealthy behaviour to get to where you are today? Those that are willing to put in the work and the TIME, are the ones that see results. And these results LAST. Yes, you can go on a fad diet or restrict yourself for a short time and see some pretty epic weight loss on the scale. But as soon as “normal” life settles in, that WATER WEIGHT that you lost is going to come back. Stop trying to cheat the system. Good things come to those that put in consistent effort over time. Stop waiting and start doing. 💥 Messy action is better than no action 💥 Early on in my fitness journey, I remember finding myself constantly on Google looking for the “perfect” diet and exercise routine that would help me reach my goal. Unfortunately, as you have probably experienced yourself, the internet is full of conflicting information. Often times, this conflicting information results in people doing absolutely nothing. So what is the solution? Take messy action. Pick something and stick to it. But make sure it’s something you can sustainably do. It doesn’t have to be complicated. ✔️ For example, if you’re currently drinking 3 sodas a day, cut that down to 2 and eventually 1. ✔️ If you’re currently not moving at all, start taking 10 minute walks after one or two of your meals. 🫨 People underestimate the power of taking small steps towards being healthier. 😮‍💨 We over complicate it because we think it should be way harder. 👉 It’s simple, but not easy. And that usually has to do with certain behaviors and habits that are hard to break. 👉 Whatever the case, just start. 🌟 The importance of memories over macros 🌟 I’m on my way back from a whole week with my family in northern CA. I didn’t track a single thing. I know the scale is going to be up (mostly water weight) and I don’t care. When I’m old and I look back on my life I’m not going to be disappointed that I gained a pound on vacation and don’t have shredded abs. You know what I would regret? Looking back and knowing my obsession over food and my body didn’t allow for full enjoyment with the people I love. If this fitness thing is going to work for you, you have to find a balance between discipline and enjoyment. I rarely find vacation the time to be tracking, obsessing and worrying about losing weight. Chill dawg. If you WANT to track your food, fine. But know that one week is not going to make or break you. It’s all the time in between that counts. What is a HIIT workout? HIIT stands for high intensity interval training. This style of training consists of short burst of intense work that usually last anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes. The burst of activity are followed by a short recovery period and then you go back to bursts of activity. For those of you wondering how my medical weight loss journey is going, I have a little update. I started tirzepatide (aka Mounjaro/Zepbound) right around Mid February, and as of this morning I have lost 19.8 lbs!! Now, as I’m sure some of you can identify with, I don’t have too many full body pictures of myself, but I can see the weight loss in my face! I am feeling great and have minimal to zero side effects. Today I was even able to zip up and button a pair of jeans that I haven’t ever been able to do that with!! 🥳 Prior to starting the meds I was already trying to move more and focus on eating lean proteins, but that alone wasn’t moving the needle at all. Create an environment that supports your goals by removing distractions and surrounding yourself with positivity. Organize your space, set up reminders, and establish routines that align with your objectives. 4️⃣ Surround Yourself with Support. Do you ever approach a weekend and completely go off track and out of your routine that you feel like your progress is ruined? Now, this isn’t necessarily true. If you were to do a weigh-in on Monday (which I actually don’t encourage), it will probably be higher, due to water retention, eating high-calorie meals, and maybe being more sedentary on that particular weekend. Note that your progress is NOT ruined. If you get right back on track on Monday and keep pushing forward, you WILL continue to progress. 💪 Now if you derail like crazy every weekend, the progress will be snail pace. Here are some TIPS to stay on track over the weekend! 1️⃣ Know your goals and your why. Here is what I do; I still get up in the morning and complete my morning routine. I sit down with a coffee and review my goals and write out what I need to do that day to accomplish them. 2️⃣ Stay hydrated. If you set reminders on your phone to stay hydrated, then do it on the weekend too. 💦 3️⃣ Plan ahead with your meals. If you are going out to eat, then look at the menu before and plan for a balanced meal. Maybe even put it into Myfitness Pal first before adding in the rest of your day. If you usually meal prep Monday to Friday maybe plan a few extra meals to last the weekend. Cut up your veggies and fruits so they are on hand and easy to grab. 🥗 4️⃣Do something active. If it's a non-workout day, maybe get outside for a walk or catch up on household chores. LONG POST ALERT! I am so freaking close to my March goal with my Bodi business so I wanted to share a little about WHY bodi, & what it has done for not only me but my family❤️ Transforming the Chaos of Motherhood into a Thriving Journey! For A LONG time I struggled the through motherhood, constantly thinking I didn’t deserve or have time to take care of myself. Having a plan reduces anxiety and ensures a productive gym session. 2️⃣ Set Realistic Goals: Establish achievable fitness goals, such as weight loss, muscle gain, or improved endurance. Set short-term and long-term goals to keep you motivated and focused on your progress. 3️⃣ Listen to Your Body: Pay attention to how your body feels during workouts. If something feels uncomfortable or painful, stop immediately and adjust the exercise or seek guidance from a fitness professional. Rest when needed to prevent overexertion and injury. 4️⃣ Start Slow: Begin with lighter weights and simpler exercises to allow your body to adapt to the new movements and intensity.
