More from Mark below, "NGC 3628 is classed as an unbarred spiral galaxy 35 million light years away in Leo. It’s often referred to as the hamburger galaxy. I have to say if I’m going to eat a burger from fast food place it will be Culvers! And this one looks delicious, must be a bacon butter deluxe. It’s also one of the galaxies in the Leo triplet and has a tidal tail that stretches 300,000 light years seen in a nice detail in this image. While classified as unbarred, there is some speculation that it is a barred galaxy due to the X shaped bulge in the central portion. Bar formation is often triggered by interaction with other galaxies, and 3628 is interacting with the other two galaxies in the triplet. The galaxy features numerous dust lanes and several obvious regions of active star formation. There are many distant background galaxies throughout the image. My main focus wasn’t to get a diamond ring photo this eclipse, but after going through all my shots I found this one where a limb blew through the frame (tight shooting window and all) so it’s not the cleanest image, but since I was already at f/14 I got a decent ray burst… but next eclipse I shoot I’ve already said I’m shooting a diamond ring at a ridiculous high aperture to really get that “sparkle” I also like that you can see where @charles.vernier is smoking his cigar that was like the only prop we brought for that day… and that bush being backlit is the real MVP… . If you venture off the beaten path of the Keweenaw Peninsula, you’ll find some amazing pieces of history to explore! Just outside the town of Phoenix, Michigan, we stumbled upon the ruins of the Cliff Mine, the first successful copper mine in Michigan! The ruins sit on top of a mountain, and the views from up there were breathtaking – Especially at night! In this image you can see the Milky Way galaxy rising over the chimney of the mine’s boiler house, which dates all the way back to 1845 😱 ✨ You can see an image of it in it’s heyday on the second slide of this post. The Tesellated Pavement at Eaglehawk Neck in Tasmania is one of the most amazing places in the state. Our tour group stopped off there with ominous clouds appearing on the horizon. Some of us went down after dark to shoot the scene and were rewarded with some gorgeous views as the stars appeared from behind the clouds. In an ever-changing world, one constant remains; the beautiful abyss of the night sky. Just to think, the amazement we have now when we peer upward, was similarly shared by those not too different from us, generations ago. By ancestors, by world explorers, by simple farmers, by majestic kings. The sky continues to remind us we are all human, on a pale blue dot, in the middle of a whole lotta nothing. And today, it simply reminds us that we're alive....and what a night to simply live. . . Taken from the top of Mt. Jo in the wee hours of the morning. The loj parking lot below was filled with vehicles awaiting the arrival of the eclipse. Finally, after many weeks of rain or clouds, a day came with a clear sky forecast. A journey of just over 200km to get away from the city of Lisbon, to a place with less light pollution, at DarkSky Alqueva. Mare Nectaris on the right side (Latin nectaris, the "Sea of Nectar") is a small lunar mare or sea 340km diameter (a volcanic lava plain noticeably darker than the rest of the Moon's surface) located south of Mare Tranquillitatis southwest of Mare Fecunditatis, on the near side of the Moon. Montes Pyrenaeus borders the mare to the east and Sinus Asperitatis fuses to its northwestern edge. On the left Mare Tranquillitatis 876km diameter. This mare has a slight bluish tint relative to the rest of the Moon and stands out quite well when color is processed and extracted from multiple photographs. The color is likely due to higher metal content in the basaltic soil or rocks. Above Langrenius crater 132km diameter. Carcoar Lake NSW Australia SINGLE I often say that I imagine a dragon when seeing the Milky Way rising over the horizon. This probably derives from a legend that I knew from my childhood. There is a Korean legend that a giant serpent called 'Imoogi' becomes a dragon and ascends to heaven. It is a legend about the dragon's predecessor which is a rare story regardless of East or West. "Colossal Impact" This would have to be my favourite image from my recent Tasmanian trip. Along the coast of the Bay of Fires .. an awe inspiring scene unfolded before us. . the amazing milky way galactic core rising over these grand and huge boulders with the raging sea swirling below. It was a sight to behold and I'm so pleased the group got the opportunity to do so. This is an 8 shot panorama. 4 for the foreground and 4 separate for the sky. I did that so I could lengthen the shutter speed for the foreground to capture more signal. You'll also notice I stopped down the aperture a bit with the foreground shots to try and get a little better focus on the rocks close to the camera.
