One Cut Of The Dead Review Year:2017/2020 I only ever saw #OneCutOfTheDead once but I remember having so much fun with it and I really wanted to watch it again but last week I recently upgraded this one to Blu-ray and I decided to give this one a watch again today so here are my thoughts. Yeah I still love the hell out of this one. It's a zombie horror movie that still manages to make me laugh even after revisiting it and is still one fun zombie movie too but let's get into the positives of the movie. One of the first positives that I have for the movie is the concept. It's a zombie horror movie that follows a film crew who face off against real zombies while filming a zombie movie of their own I'm just going to leave things there when it comes to summarizing the plot because anything else I say would end up spoiling this movie but all I'll say about the film itself is to expect the unexpected with this film. The kills in the movie were great. I liked the various ways that people were dying here and I will say the gore was also really good as well. The movie is really fun to watch. When the zombies start showing up that's when things get really fun and it starts like that immediately and when it gets to that reveal that's when things get more entertaining. The cast gave out great performances. Everyone did a great job in their roles. The pacing was great, the soundtrack was great, the story was great, the setting was great, the characters were great, the opening was great, and the ending was great as well. Overall I absolutely loved this one, a zombie horror movie that was funny as hell and delivers a lot of fun scenes too. ONE CUT OF THE DEAD: 2017 Japanese zombie comedy film written/directed by Shin’ichirō Ueda. Quick synopsis. We follow a low budget indie zombie film being shot for live television in one take. We start off w/ the film w/in a film then flashbacks to the origin of the film and finally the shooting of it. This was laugh out loud funny. Super small budget and they didn’t expect much of it but it became huge even internationally. The cast was all unknown and it looks like the lead female has gone on to some success. Hoping the others find some as well. The fact it was all unknown actors involved gave it some authenticity and charm. I particularly loved the ambitious daughter of the directory guy as well as the wife getting lost in her role. They did a sequel in 2019 called One Cut of the Dead Spin-Off: In Hollywood (which I can’t find online) and another during lockdown on YouTube called One Cut of the Dead Mission: Remote which I did see. And for the second “meta” film of the weekend we have Final Cut. This is a French remake of the 2017 Japanese original entitled One Cut of the Dead. Both films are broadly described thus on IMDB: “Things go badly for a small film crew shooting a low budget zombie movie when they are attacked by real zombies”. Neither film was known to me before a few days ago, I watched a “gushing” review on a YouTube channel and as Final Cut was readily available I gave it a watch. This isn’t quite or nearly as good as the reviewer suggested, but of course this may be down to the ever-variable personal preference. Both versions are “famous” for an opening near 30 minute continuous take, which you could easily miss until or unless it is pointed out, this is in and of itself pretty impressive. It’s not terrible and I guess it is quite clever and inventive but not worth raving about. If the original were to present itself for viewing I would give it a whirl as both the reviewer and IMDB rate the original above this faithful remake. It is worth noting that the original cost $25,000 to make and made over $25,000,000! At heart this film is an homage to the art of cinema and to see why I say that you would have to watch the film, no spoilers from me! #FinalCut #OneCutOfTheDead

Consigli in pillole dalla mia collezione: Zombie contro zombie - One Cut of the Dead (Kamera o tomeru na!). Di Shin'ichirō Ueda. Giappone, 2017. Il film che vi consiglio oggi è diventato fin da subito uno dei miei preferiti in assoluto. Una volta iniziato vi ritroverete davanti un film in piano sequenza, pieno di errori tecnici e narrativi, con attori incredibilmente strambi, tutto sbagliato. Però, forse, non tutto è quello che sembra e vi consiglio di prestare un'attenzione maniacale a tutti i dettagli della prima parte del film, perché tutto avrà una spiegazione. In realtà vi assicuro e vi prometto che vi ritroverete davanti a un film geniale, strutturato in maniera perfetta, nel quale tutto si incastra alla perfezione. Shin'ichirō Ueda scrive, dirige e monta questo tributo d'amore verso il cinema dell'orrore e in generale. Un film che mostra in modo estremamente leggero e divertentissimo quanto sia bello fare i film, nonostante tutti gli imprevisti ai quali si deve porre rimedio immediatamente durante la realizzazione di un film. Dietro la perfezione di ciò che vediamo nel prodotto finito c'è un lavoro immenso di persone che rendono possibile il cinema ed è il motivo per il quale amo la settima arte e amo vedere i making of dei film. Ad alcuni toglie la magia, per me la magia è proprio quella. Dobbiamo sempre ricordare che il cinema è una grande recita fatta da persone, davanti e dietro la macchina da presa, prima e dopo le riprese. Il cinema è finzione, è una rappresentazione della realtà in cui tutto è costruito e questo meraviglioso film ci ricorda ancora una volta che il cinema può farci credere a qualunque cosa rendendola reale all'interno dello schermo e della nostra testa. One Cut of the Dead è un film realizzato a orologeria e lo capirete ogni minuto che passa, fino allo splendido finale (che scalda il cuore e commuove con il sorriso), fino ai veri titoli di coda che non possono lasciare indifferenti ogni amante di cinema. Lo svelamento del trucco più bello del mondo, che lo eleva ancora di più. Incredibile cinema metacinematografico che non dovete assolutamente perdervi.

#31DaysofHorrorMoviesinOctober 2020 Day 10: #OneCutoftheDead (2017). Been meaning to watch this Shudder original from Japan, and can definitely say it is a unique experience. The first half of the movie will have you thinking you're watching the Japanese zombie version of The Room, and the second half will show you why you felt that way. It's really an homage to guerrilla style filmmaking, and while I would classify it more as a meta comedy with horror elements than a horror movie itself, it was definitely an impressive and very original feat to pull off. My biggest complaint was the pacing, and I kind of wanted to see it go even another level deeper with the meta stuff, but it was cute and clever to get to where it ended up. Watched on #shudder but can be rented on #amazon. 96 mins. 100% on #rottentomatoes based on 86 reviews, no consensus on Audience score. Bonnie score: 7/10. C+. Movie Review: One Cut of the Dead Move over Shaun of the Dead, I have a new favourite zombie comedy. An absolute gem of a movie and so unique. The first part of the movie was quite B grade horror, I was questioning the filming technique and average acting. But as the movie progressed I was hooked. So funny, I was dying of laughter. It's best not to give away the plot and go in not knowing anything about this movie, so that's all I'll say 🤐 If "budget horror" is not your thing trust me when I say stick through the first half hour, it's so worth it! I absolutely loved Ghostwatch, I wish I could have seen this when it initially aired back in 1992. Between the casting choices, cinematography, editing, every detail felt so authentic. Door was another personal favourite. A brilliant little low budget horror/thriller. Door 2 however, I was less enamoured with. Either way, Third Window have done a fantastic job with these Director's Company releases, I honestly hope there is some more on the horizon. She Shoots Straight is another brilliant addition to the Girls with Guns subgenre of Hong Kong action movies. Elemental seems overhated, it may not be groundbreaking but as far as modern Pixar goes, it's a decent entry. Watching animation as much as I do, I realise that 2 things animators have struggled to achieve realism with over the years are fire and water. I say that in the sense, that you have a clearly determined goal/vision and execute it perfectly. If you dig comedic horror, go after this one. It’s well written, well acted and just so damn clever. You have to give it some time but once it goes, you understand it as if you wrote it. And trust me, you will wish you had. It’s brilliant. The concept is very ingenious but it also executes it so well. The switches from segment to segment to segment are seamless. Everything makes sense and nothing is superfluous. This is an incredibly tight and efficient movie. It never feels bloated even though there is a lot of movie. The pacing is spot on. There is also more to the movie than just the concept. The characters are well drawn out and are dynamic. All the performances are so great. They are given much to do and they rise to the occasion. Everyone is just so likeable! The movie making is impeccable and so confident. It makes you fall in love with movies again. Such a joyous and satisfying film. "Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes" Genre: comedy, science fiction, indie Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes (Japanese: ドロステのはてで僕ら) is a 2020 Japanese science fiction comedy movie. The story follows a cafe owner and his friends when they discover that a TV and a computer monitor lag each other by two minutes, with time loop shenanigans ensuing. The movie follows in the grand tradition of movies seemingly filmed in "One shot", a concept popularized in western media by "Birdman" and "1917" and in Japan by "One Cut of the Dead". Often this aesthetic comes across as a gimmick however this film manages to weave it into the narrative well enough that it feels essential to the film's premise. The set design, cinematography and costume design are decidedly low key however it enhances the "extraordinary happening within the mundane" feeling that the film is going for. It tackles high minded concepts like Droste effect with simplicity and the character's actions and motivations are well justified by the phenomenon they are experiencing. The film is a great balance of advanced science fiction and slice of life comedy, both of which Japanese media is known for.
