Lisa Reisert kommt von der Beerdigung ihrer Oma und möchte einfach nur nach Hause fliegen. Sie ist in einem großen Hotel angestellt, in dem am nächsten Tag ein hochrangiger Mitarbeiter des Ministeriums für Innere Sicherheit unterkommt. Auf dem Flug gerät sie in die Gewalt eines Auftragskillers, der mit ihrer Hilfe einen Anschlag auf diese Person ermöglichen will - verweigert sie die Hilfe, stirbt ihr Vater. Kann sie die Situation lösen? Wes Craven ist ja vor allem für seine Horrorfilme bekannt. Und sind wir ehrlich, ohne einen Nightmare on Elm Street oder Scream, um nur zwei seiner Hits zu nennen, sähe das Horrorkino heute sicherlich etwas anders aus - und garantiert nicht besser. Sein Thriller Red Eye geht bei alle dem gerne mal etwas unter, gerade, da er in der langen Zeit zwischen Scream 3 und 4 entstand. Das ist definitiv schade, denn Craven hat hier einen temporeichen und spannenden Film ohne großes Fett an den Knochen geschaffen: er etabliert erst seine Charaktere und das Setting und legt dann auch recht zügig mit dem eigentlichen Thema los: wie Lisa gegen ihren Willen den Mördern helfen soll und versucht eben dies nicht zu tun. Ist das immer zu 100% plausibel? Nicht zwingend, aber Craven inszeniert das sehr spannend, mit vielen Hoffnungsschimmern, die immer wieder ins Leere laufen. Am Ende gibt es dann noch etwas Action, bei der Craven auch leichte Slasherelemente einbaut. Zudem schwingt da thematisch noch etwas anderes mit, das ich hier aus Spoilergründen nicht genauer erläutere. So viel sei gesagt: der Film funktioniert quasi wie eine Analogie zu einem Erlebnis aus der Vergangenheit der Protagonistin, was den Film, zu seiner direkten Unterhaltungsebene, noch etwas mehr Vielschichtigkeit gibt. Monday Daydreaming Week 60! As Spielberg month comes to a close I decided to pick another one for this week’s daydream. This week is The Sugarland Express! I really enjoyed this film and I think it deserves a little more attention. I think this could greatly benefit from a new restoration, it has great scenery and cinematography throughout. I don’t think it would benefit all that much from an audio upgrade but wouldn’t complain if it got one. The rights for this film are owned by @universalpictures so hopefully they can give us an upgrade like they did for Duel, but if they don’t want to I think @criterioncollection would be great for it. Correct me if I am wrong but don’t think Steven Spielberg has a film in the collection and although it’s not his best film I think it would fit pretty well in the collection as a lesser known early title from the now legendary director. After “The BFG” 2016, Spielberg did “The Post” 2017. I again don’t own it so won’t be watching it this time around but I do really want to check it out if I can get my hands on the out of print 4k lol. The next year in 2018 Spielberg released “Ready Player One”. Another I am yet to see, when it came out I just never had interest in watching it and still haven’t. One day I will pull the trigger on the 4K and give it a shot. Next up on my watchlist is Spielberg’s take on the classic “West Side Story”.
