F I N D. T I M E. F O R. R E S T. I know it’s really hard to prioritise rest and sleep. It’s not something most of us put on our to do list. And I get it! I’m as guilty as anyone of have ridiculous expectations about what’s achievable in any given day. But I know how harmful this is to me and those around me. So, for example, this week when little one fell asleep in the car and the drive wasn’t long enough. We pulled over so she could sleep a little longer and I could join her. Be ready to spot opportunities for rest. That doesn’t just mean sleep. Meditation, breathing practices, yoga Nidra, listening to music or a relaxing story with your eyes closed. 🥱We all know when it’s time to stop or take a break don’t we. Or do we? It can sneak up on you, can’t it, fatigue and it has so many subtle levels and nuances: You can be physically tired but mentally wired or mentally drained but physically edgy. There’s heavy eyelids, there’s catching yourself shallow breathing, headaches, clenching jaws or aching shoulders drifting up towards ears. There’s unexpected irritable, defensive, snappy or downright aggressive reactions. There’s too tired to sleep, too tired to wake up. Loss of motivation or wired obsessive determination. There’s reaching for a chocolate bar, a drink, a smoke, a drug, a spend. And there’s good old bones deep exhaustion 🥱 It’s amazing that at different times and for different reasons we’ve probably all experienced these and either been unable or unwilling to listen to the need to put our feet up, close our eyes and rest - however much we needed it! With caffeine, artificial light, long work hours, high expectations and our ‘always on’ culture it’s too easy to fool your body and mind that you’re not tired. Just talking with a friend yesterday trying to figure out why we keep feeling a dip in energy. She asked if I’m empathetic which means I can take on others' energy/problems and this could be a possibility why I’m dipping. But no, it's more personal than that. It’s me! It’s my problem solving- time management skills. I love to give until my cup is empty and this then leads to adrenals that drop, immune response weakening, and depression slipping in as I hit bottom. A cycle that needs to get reset. If only I’d listen to my advice. Rest! Recharge! Self care is so important to refill the cup /mind/ body. So I’ll be finding time during the day to disconnect from my phone and my people just to sit quietly to journal, pray or even shut my eyes for 20 mins. I will also make bedtime a priority and an important event in my body's recharge and long-term vitality. It’s just that SIMPLE…Rest does the mind and body good!!!!! My physio broke up with me after three months on Wednesday soooo I took action and got a guided ultrasound injection for my bursitis yesterday! The nurses told me I should take it easy for the next few days and no waving my hands in the air or gym work for the next week (this won’t be hard 😂🤣😂). Usually I feel guilty for taking time off work for ailments but not today, I just woke up so I really needed sleep and to take things easy so that is what I will do. Shoulder still feels terrible but pain killers help and I am looking forward to no pain in a couple of weeks as the steroids kick in 💪🦾💪 #healthmatters #restmattersforhealth

Do you have trouble sleeping 😴? . . . I'll admit sleep is always last on my mental wellness check list. For one, I've lived by the saying, "I'll sleep when I die💀." This limiting belief has cost me some good night 😴, but I believed that you had to hustle and grind until I met 2020. #shutdown . . . As a mother it's difficult to get to bed at exactly 10 or 11pm. I'm good to even get 5 hours of sleep before my son burst into the room ready to start his day 🤠. . . . I've watched YouTube videos and researched new ways to rebuild my evening routine 🌆. I know for my mental wellness, I need a good nights rest otherwise I'm useless in the morning, well at least until my ☕ kicks in. . . . I didn't want to rely on caffeine or B12 💉this year. Amazon recommended this book by @ariannahuff The Sleep Revolution. Let's explore this book together and find a new routine for 2021. . . These past few weeks have been exhausting 😔. . . . And I am not complaining 🙄 for I know I am alive, but this is a new kind of exhaustion 😔. . . . I'm a mom, who has become the teacher, the head chef of three meals a day, advocate, advisor and I want mention the issues outside my 🏠... #sayhername. . . . I had to remind myself that it's okay not to be okay ...my feelings are valid 😔😣😭...and if I need to rest, Do So💤😴. . . . If you get tired, learn to REST not to QUIT! Last week I had a massive migraine for a day& 1/2. And if you are like me, then you are always on the go checking off all the things on your checklist for that week, that day. Well I’m here to tell you that IT IS OKAY for you to REST when your body is telling you you need to slow it down. Rest is super important to our body and our mind. Maybe you don’t need physical rest but maybe you need some mental rest, take a step back babe and BREATHE. This was not easy for me to do because I keep a pretty decent routine daily, and get in my 30 minute workouts too. These two days I did try and give it my all but ended up having to press pause and lay back down bc the room started spinning. The next day I woke up NO MIGRAINE (praise) and was able to check off all the things 🙌 Just bc you need to rest your mind and your soul doesn’t mean that you are/ having to quit! LISTEN TO YOUR BODY | REST | &&& ʏᴏᴜ ᴡɪʟʟ sʟᴀʏ ʙᴀʙᴇ✨

Stressed due to lack of sleep? Or lack of sleep leading to stress? Try out a simple technique widely used in the military, to help you sleep amidst chaos. Studies show that it works for almost 96% of people after a practice of 6 weeks. So, fret not, if you don't see it working as soon as you start it. ➡️ Steps: 1. Get into a comfortable position. 2. Relax your face 3. Drop your shoulders 4. Let your legs go limp. 5. Clear your mind for 10 seconds. ( This might be the most challenging bit. Picturing one of the following three images can help: 🛶Lying in a canoe on a calm lake, nothing but blue sky above you. 🌑Snuggled in a black velvet hammock in a pitch-black room. 🙅‍♂️ Saying “don’t think, don’t think, don’t think” over and over for ten seconds.
