🌄 New #RomanceStamp 🎤 Come As You Are by @jesskhardy_author I’m so sorry! These stamps are really small and I couldn’t fit his tattoos in 😭 but just know they’re there! This was another tricky one to figure out with the mountains in the background. I only get two colors with these stamps. On and off lol. But I love them so much so figured I’d brave the mountain for them. This is the first book in the Bluebird Basin series in which Ashley has a struggling ski lodge and a crappy ex trying to make her life difficult. So being the chill person that she is (sarcasm: despite the snowy mountain she has no chill lol) she hires a sober living house for affordable labor as part of their recovery plan which happens to be led by a giant hairy ex-grunge rockstar who’s scared of heights and good with dogs 😍 I just finished her book 2 in this series Lips Like Sugar (which just came out YESTERDAY!) and am fully prepared to inhale everything Jess writes like I’m Kirby. 🦚 New #RomanceStamp 📚 Most Ardently by @thegabecole This stamp was an adventure in new textures and trusting ideas to come through and I think it all came together in the end. Look at that peacock! Not that peacocks are significant in the story. Unless!! We consider that peacocks are male and present their gender prominently and this story is about Oliver finding his HEA in a way that lets him live as his real self. The wheels are turning here. Clever stuff. This is a Pride and Prejudice retelling with the second oldest Bennett sibling being a trans man (boy? I guess this is YA) named Oliver who isn’t out with his family and lives in a society that expects him to wear a dress and be a wife someday. Except for the days when he can sneak out and hang at boys clubs with his new friend Mr. Darcy 👀 I’m already in favor of a good retelling, but I love when an author can pull deeper or alternate meaning from the same text we all started with. This story stays true to the original plot but also digs deeper into queer culture during Austen’s time which was a fun side quest in this read. 💍 On the Twelfth Day of #RomanceStamp 🔥 You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle I meant to make this stamp since the beginning, but I’m so glad I waited until now to attempt it because I did not have the skills to go this over the top back then. There are WORDS. Nicolas has GLASSES. I’m posting this so late because I fell behind on stamp making and decided I’d just carve the last one in the morning and then it literally took me all day. But the labor of love is worth it because, like Nicolas, I love this story and I always have. Naomi and Nicolas start the book engaged but also they hate each other. But whoever calls it first is going to be stuck with the extraneous bill and Naomi can’t afford it and Nicolas is apparently just a stubborn human being. But through pranks and sabotage to get the other to quit, they slowly remember why they fell in love to begin with. My favorite part of this book is just how mean and petty and “unlikeable” these two but especially Naomi get. I know this is a turn off for some people but honestly this was a breath of fresh air from all the perfectionism and “right” kind of unlikeable we’re given as readers. If you haven’t seen the newer cover for this book, I recommend checking it out because it’s beautiful! But it’s also much more difficult for me to carve 😅 so we’re all stuck with the OG cover which, let’s be honest, is also gorgeous and swoony. And I got to try my hand at carving flowers which was also annoying and tricky and I hope turned out right because I really loved this book. I was very late to this series and it did not disappoint. The hype is justified! Everyone go read it. Miri’s eccentric aunt dies (😢) and leaves her a Christmas tree farm along with the people who’ve been running it this whole time including her estranged cousin and the hot butch lumberjane managing the trees. The chemistry between Miri and Noelle was SO GOOD! The constant “how dare this person be in MY space while looking so hot 😤”. It was candy. I’ll snack on that all day. 🌞 New #RomanceStamp 🍷 Bend Toward the Sun by @kisscrafter This is my first attempt at a cover that isn’t animated and it certainly came with its challenges and ideas for the future. I’m a sucker for the romance of kissing in front of a light source and the simplified silhouettes of this cover made it a natural place to dip my toe in, if you will. Not to mention this story is beautiful. Have you all read it yet? Reading it feels kind standing in a sunny vineyard with your shoes off. The characters each bring in their own heaps of past trauma so check the content warnings, but the story focuses more on healing and the end is so satisfying. 🇺🇸 New #RomanceStamp Alert! 🇬🇧 I’ve got a fancy new carving tool (no rust included!!) and tracing paper, and people, this is a game changer! Secrets: I forgot stamps are mirrored when I carved my first Twilight stamp, but luckily the cover is fairly symmetrical so I was able to adjust. Stamps are small and details are hard (again why did I think carving out letters would be an easy solution??? 😑) so I decided early on I would do simplified covers in order to get more out of the iconic details. But make it romance. Naturally I wanted to start with something iconic and simple. I mean I’m a couple years out of art class and I’m working with erasers and my grandfather-in-law’s ancient rusty whittling tools until the new fancy stuff comes in (because I’m too excited to wait).
