Americans are conditioned and pressured to strive for more. More money, more status, more power, more capital, etc. It’s exhausting and truly Sisyphean. The answer to this, I think, is to embrace idleness. The idea to embrace doing nothing for nothing’s sake. To be present, to say good morning, to take a few minutes to sit and consider the beauty of life. Italy has taught me the importance of slowing down, to soak in the pleasure of being in the moment. To get curious about the sensations that occur when pausing to notice them. Now having returned to the States, I commit to the practice of slowing down and seeking pleasure in the everyday “mundaneness”. & I invite you to all practice this with me. Trust that you are everything you were meant to be. - the stars ✨ Practice the following Yin Yoga poses to target the tendomuscular meridians related to the fire element in TCM: heart & small intestine alongside pericardium and triple heater. ⚡️Good meridians to work on for those of us going through the European heat wave, those dealing with a bit of the “Sunday scaries” or if you suffer from anxiety. 1. Sphinx pose. Hold for up to 5 minutes. 2. butterfly with closed wings. Hold for up to 5 minutes. 3. Bananasana. Hold for up to 3 minutes each side. Y I N I have 2 yoga loves in my life, the first is of course Kundalini, Yin is a close second. Kundalini being the Yang & Yin being the Yin, they balance each other beautifully Friday 13th May, 7.30-9.30pm th lovely Charlotte will be holding a two-hour yin yoga workshop 'S L O W is medicine' Where we revisit and remind ourselves of the tools we have within to ground and rejuvenate ourselves. To soothe our nervous system, create space within, and rest deeply. We will work with Pranayama (breath work), acupressure release points, and of course a long, slow, full-body yin yoga practise covering all the major organs and their corresponding energetic and emotional release points, and a full-body stretch and release of your fascia and connective tissue. Leave the workshop as a rejuvenated, deeply meditated version of yourself. Slow IS medicine. Yin yoga is a practise where we nurture the body on every level as we turn our awareness inwards. We hold floor-based shapes or poses for several minutes using blankets, cushions, pillows, bolsters, and anything else that allows you to feel supported, cosy, and comfortable. In this state of surrender we relax, and release deeply held tensions, mentally, emotionally, and physically. (ESP👇🏾y 👉🏾) In western society due to the fast pace we consider “normal”, it is very common to eat on the go, order take out and in return have heavy, slow digestions ⁠ While treating digestion is something that goes beyond the scope of any one yoga post, sequence or cup of peppermint tea: 🧑‍🍳 I hope to provide here a yin yoga recipe to help boost your digestion from a subtle body standpoint. ⁠ Hold each pose for 2 - 4 minutes. My reference for this sequence is based on yogāsana in relation to TCM, āyurveda, myofascial pathways and energetic currents of the body. ⁠ ⁠ TCM usually considers the spleen & stomach meridians amongst other energy channels as culprits of bad digestion while āyurveda will normally aim at pacifying vata and improving agni / digestive fire. 🙌🏾 We go over creating sequences with energetic themes in module 3. The Spine of yin yoga teacher training. Dates for 2023. Stay tuned YOGA NERD NOTES 🤓 From a TCM and yin yoga āsana lense the general aim is to compress and create tension where the tendinomuscular meridians of the stomach and spleen run through: quadriceps, rectos abdominus. Also note the ankle in short step dragon is stressing the same stomach & spleen meridians through tension in the back leg and compression in the front leg. I went to the downtown post office here in Barcelona the other day and shipped another personally signed book to a very special student. 💌 This powerhouse of a women, without knowing, taught me very early on that teaching Yin was my gift. 🤲 👐Here are some reasons why I love Yin and or hence, why I love teaching it. 1. OPEN WINGS to stimulate the front sheath of the upper body through where the heart meridian runs. Also, to help ease the diaphragm and calm the breath without going into a backbend that can aggravate vata from the Ayurvedic energy body realm. ⁠ ⁠ 2min hold each side.⁠ ⁠ 2. Cacao + Savasana = Saturday Sadhana . . . Living your yoga can be such a simple thing as drinking your tea or coffee mindfully. #Sadhana often refers to spiritual practice. A daily routine of presence. Often when we are in the early years of our yoga practice, our sadhana can be a disciplined routine with hours of asana practice, meditation and chanting. (maybe already at 4.30 in the morning) Every day. When your practice matures you may explore that your practice is loosening up. Maybe you are finding yourself in meditation while sitting on the bus. Maybe you are chanting while having a bath or in the shower. Or maybe you are living more hours of your day AWAKE ✨ #spiritualpractice When you cook, shopping groceries or cleaning your house. Your meditation practice can still be hour long (👌🏻) and maybe you still are enjoying a 2 hours vigorous asana at 5 in the morning (no, not me anymore) But in my experience I didn’t have the need for all that when I grew into my practice. It took some time of course. Many years of practice. And discipline. Dedication. I still love my meditation practice and I’m hard on Yoga Nidra and Restorative ✨ + Chanting My sadhana is softly disciplined on rest and being true to me. Listening. Being in nature. Being with me. Being with my relationships. Being with everything that life’s serving us. And having a cacao ceremony with the love of my life ♥️ MORE in history . . . “Everything can be sadhana. The way you eat, the way you sit, the way you stand, the way you breathe, the way you conduct your body, mind and your energies and emotions – this is sadhana. Daily Practice ✨ You don't always need lots of yoga props to practice Restorative Yoga. But you will need lots of pillows and blankets for sure. In this not so traditional set up I have 5 bolsters, 3 pillows, 1 big soft pillow, 4 blankets and 1 scarf ✨ Instead of bolsters you can use pillows and blankets. Jus be creative. Usually I make a neck support with a blanket for my students but in my own practice I prefer a soft pillow. I also need to have a pillow or two under my sacrum to get comfy. I sticky mat plus one wool mat.
