I read this book way back then, and this line has always stuck with me. 📷 Take the image with this post. Is the sidewalk flat -- or heading downhill? (PS it's heading straight down. I had just walked up, then turned around to take the photo). 🚶♀️ Sometimes a photo perfectly captures a moment in time. But therein lies at least part of the problem: A moment is one angle. Never the whole story. 🎥 This might be one reason the Black Lives Matter movement has more power this time around -- by watching videos (instead of frozen moments) the viewer is forced to engage in the horror more fully. Glass towers rise, erase the broad sky. My grandparents watched the Tappan Zee bridge go up; now, they're gone, and I watch that same bridge come down as another replaces it because the original was beyond repair. We must dedicate ourselves to improvement, lest we perish. The fact I prefer burnt, room-temperature leftovers eaten over the sink, to fine dining; is evidence I was raised by a drug addict.
