In September 2024, we are walking Offa's Dyke; a 285 km long walking trail following the Welsh border, over 14 days to raise money for the FAR Skate Foundation in Whitstable, Kent, United Kingdom. The four of us, Isaac Epton, Colin Epton, Jude Epton and Mark Lancaster, have been supporters of the charity for years, with Mark acting as a trustee for the charity. The FAR Skate Foundation is a non-profit charitable organisation based in Whitstable, specialising in looking after young people who struggle with Social, Emotional and Mental Health through encouraging and teaching the art of skateboarding. Through inspiring a passion for skateboarding, the foundation has a 100 per cent success rate of getting young people, who would otherwise fall through the cracks of the education system, to pass their maths and English GCSEs. It has proven to be an invaluable resource for the local community. Today we took Erik to visit “The Batcave”, used to film The Dark Knight Rises. It’s real name is Henryhd Falls - a 90ft waterfall on the western edge of the Brecon Beacons. An impressive sight, and really fun that you can walk behind it. No Batman there today, but we did see a couple of wild swimmers, who I think are just as brave! It’s a steep walk down from the car park, but on an obvious path and under 0.5miles to reach the falls.

Situated atop a hill, about 1000ft high overlooking the Dee Valley in Llangollen, this walk is both challenging but full of interest! The castle ruins are great to explore but now, mostly crows inhabit the area & the name translates to “Crow’s Fortress”.🐦⬛🏰 . I loved this adventure! Llangollen is a beautiful town with so much to offer! I’ve got a few more places in mind to warrant a return to the gorgeous town & I may head back up to the castle too! Any excuse for a hill climb! 🌞 SAVE THIS POST FOR FUTURE WALKS — Skirrid Fawr, just outside Abergavenny, Monmouthshire 🏴 🗺️ An approx 5km total out and back. 🚗 National Trust carpark, which is relatively small so go early or choose a quieter day to visit. Nearest postcode is NP7 8AW. This is a really gorgeous route, so easy to navigate although quite steep to start with. You follow the path from the carpark to a gate (pic 2), go through it and head on up through the woodland (pic 3), following the signs with yellow arrows (pic 4). You’ll soon come out onto the ridge (pic 5). Here the walk flattens out and you’ll get amazing views of the surrounding hills in Abergavenny (pic 6), including Sugar Loaf and the Blorenge. Follow along the path, and you’ll make it to the trig point (pic 7). I love this hike! I’ve done it a few times and it’s a great one to do if you have little time. The views of the surrounding countryside are amazing 🤩❤️

Grateful for a lush weekend of fresh air, blue skies and loooong hikes 🌞 We had a stunning hike on Saturday up the Dragons Back and over to Waun Fach. It was so warm and the air was still, the first hike in a while where it’s given me a taste for summer hikes ahead ☺️😍
I climbed a lot of trees during my childhood. I have a scar running down the right of my ribcage from falling down an oak tree aged 9(ish) and scraping my body against the stub of a broken branch that was sticking out of the trunk (it's my favourite scar 🥰). I clearly haven't learned my lesson - all these years on, aged 41, I saw this tree as I walked to the starting point for yesterday's hike, and I felt compelled to climb it. The last time I climbed a tree a policeman stopped me because he thought I was going to hang myself (it was during the spate of suicides among young people in Bridgend County).
