The Cami de Cavalls: 185km The origin and name of this hiking trail go back to the 14th century, when a royal order required the knights of Menorca to patrol the coast on horseback and defend the island. Norfolk Coast Path The Norfolk Coast Path runs from Hunstanton in west Norfolk all the way round to Hopton-on-Sea on the east Norfolk coast. A lot of this walking trail runs through the dramatic landscape of the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. I was in Stiffkey during the week and enjoyed a couple of walks along the coastal park. The coastline between Sagres and Zambujeira do Mar is stunning 😍. We stopped for lunch at a gorgeous rustic cafe at Azenhas do Mar (there are two - the other one is near Sintra). The view from the cafe is terrific. The coastline in this area is part of the Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina and is a popular hiking route. Exactly 1 year ago today I walked into the cathedral square in Santiago de Compostela having just completed a 300km walk along the Portuguese coastal route in 10 days. 14 days before I'd had my heart broken and all I could think to do was walk through the pain. So I booked a flight to Porto, bought some walking poles and set off towards Galicia following the sea. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I've always loved walking but this was the longest and most challenging hike I'd ever done and the experience really opened me up to a whole new part of my life. I was proud as punch when I reached the end and felt like I could keep going forever. A lovely thing happened to me this morning. When I was out on my coastal path morning walk, I found this amazing mushroom rock. I have seen lots like this and rock stacks, arches, blow holes and caves etc and I really like these wonders of nature. I took a few photos and posted them to my stories. After about 1.5 hours, I decided to head back. I sat down and Googled the area to see if I had missed anything, and sure enough, I had missed a cave very close to the mushroom rock. Low and behold the area with the cave and mushroom is called Rock of Chris and Andreas. Well I think of my son every day and his name is Chris and his good friend from school is Andreas. So I excitedly headed back, found the cave, and spent quite a bit of time thinking of my son and his friend. Today’s 14.8 mile route along the coast from Whitby to Robin Hood’s Bay and back, was a brilliant way to finish off a lovely family break in North Yorkshire. A circular route, I walked along the stunning coastal path from Whitby town centre to Robin Hood’s Bay.
