I tend to have a hard time finding these very fast snakes and have had the neonate curse for some time. While @oasis_herping and I made our way up the mountains of California to look for some special species. This guy was sitting in the middle of the road. Southwestern speckled rattlesnake (Crotalus pyrrhus) A nice little speck cruised up the gang last weekend. Surprisingly this was our first speck of the year as we have been spending most of our time in the mountains this spring and not the desert. This speck was extremely chill and wanted nothing to do with us and getting him to sit still was almost impossible so I snapped some shots of him slithering. This was taken on the night before the Total Eclipse— beautiful,clear skies because of the coinciding new moon. I took that Monday off so I could capture the eclipse and made a 3 day solo camping trip centered around hiking and photography.
