Happy Sunday, friends! I hope you all have had a great weekend. Katy and I have had our hands full navigating our new role as parents, and I have to say, we’re loving every minute of it. It’s crazy to think that it’s been almost three weeks since our lives changed for the better with Charlie’s arrival. She has been such an easygoing baby and has allowed us to get more sleep than we anticipated. Knowing this could change at any moment, we’re making sure we don’t take this time for granted! Throughout the last few weeks (as well as during Katy’s pregnancy), it’s been incredibly humbling to feel the shared excitement from our family and friends, making us infinitely more grateful for the community that surrounds us. This includes all of you who have reached out through comments or direct messages. Although many of us have not personally met, you have made us feel encouraged and supported as we begin this amazing new chapter in our lives. From the remote lands of Karakoram. A glacial lake, hidden in the middle of humongous mountains. A place that I thought only existed in dreams. After 7 days of trekking and climbing, all those hard times and close calls I had on my way just vanished in a heartbeat. Standing there only made me realise how blessed and lucky I am to have the strength and resources to travel to these kind of locations. By far the best and most intimate encounter I've had with arctic foxes. I'm so grateful to this little guy (and his partner, curled up just a few metres away) for letting me get up close. . They were taking turns keeping an eye on me, but did not seem bothered by my presence. When wildlife is so relaxed, you also get the best playground and experience. . Just a few hundred meters from where I was, two "photographers" were literally chasing another fox up the side of the mountain, pushing it higher and higher. . These animals have incredibly tough lives, and no one should ever force them off their way, definitely not to get a photograph. Uno de mis lugares de baño favoritos cuando se trata de costa. Os aseguro que esa playa y ese pequeño puerto es un remanso de paz y a veces parece hasta una piscina ⚓ Por suerte, todavía no es un lugar conocido por los fans del turismo de Instagram, así que está bastante "intacto" en tema turístico. Y que así sea. Instagram está destruyendo el mundo a base de lobotomizar los cerebros de la gente que solo demanda un turismo de nula calidad, excesivamente rápido donde lo que importa es el reel o la foto para despojar a los lugares de su anonimato y lo único que se consigue es destruirlos. Por mi parte, nunca comparto ubicaciones. Puede ser una tontería porque todo está en Google Maps (aunque la gente parece que no sabe usarlo y demanda constantemente ubicaciones) pero yo solo quiero disfrutar de la quietud y no fomentar la degeneración del territorio. No quiero que el norte acabe siendo el nuevo Benidorm ni acabe como las Canarias. Yo no soy dueña del mundo, pero si soy responsable de mi mundo, y como tal tengo que actuar de la mejor forma que sé. No quiero ser parte del problema, quiero acabar con él. Qué suerte tenemos que el norte de España tenga estos reductos tan irish o cornish. Dinosaur Provincial Park is an incredible place to visit if you’re ever in Alberta. This park is a World Heritage Site and an important piece of the global dinosaur puzzle. 58 species of dinosaur have been found here and more than 500 specimens have been excavated to be put on display. You really get the sense that you can picture them running around in this landscape 🦖🦕

Maybe because the landscape and views are so great, or maybe just a change of personal preference, but I find that increasingly the 4:3 proportion of DSLRs isn't enough to capture the scenes so I've been taking more panoramas recently. This one is no exception. Unfortunately, I'm not really aware of a digital platform that's appropriate for the standard 12:36 proportion, so I've been printing a lot of these, which is nice, but they take space with the backers (I'm still looking for an archival panorama format portfolio, if anyone has suggestions) But...specific to this photo, from a month or so ago...snow camping at Rainier had been on the list since our first snow backpacking trip years ago. We've mostly ended up at Mt. Baker instead. This particular weekend was almost no exception. However, as luck would have it, the parking permit for that trail was sold out days in advance, leaving us to our backup option. With the permit issuing center on an extended lunch break after the 3 hour drive, Luckily the ranger staffing the nearby museum was able to access the system to get us our permit and send us on our way. The parking area at Paradise was nearly full, as expected. So was the area all directions in the immediate vicinity. We chose a less traditional path in search of our site this day though, and it didn't take us long to get away from the crowds. After a few clear views of the mountain, a short climb to the ridge put us in tree cover, but a bit of exploring led us to the perfect exposed spot with direct unobstructed views to Mt. Rainier. A shovel and some digging allowed creation of a wind barrier (along with a bench, kitchen area, and makeshift toilet), making the perfect home for a night. The Albedo effect: It refers to the ability of surfaces to reflect the sunlight and has an impact on our climate. Light coloured surfaces reflect more light (high albedo). Dark surfaces absorb the sunlight (low albedo). Glaciers have a high albedo, reflecting much of the light. When glaciers melt, they leave behind darker surfaces like rocks or water with a low albedo. These dark surfaces absorb then more solar energy and consequently warm up the surrounding air more.
