My heart sunk! I began getting sick in June 2021. By April 2022, I was diagnosed with cancer - Stage 3 Multiple Myeloma with Amyloidosis. Months later, I realized there were only 3 stages of this disease. No wonder I felt so bad… I was on death’s doorstep! - Multiple hospital stays April-June 2022 - 5 months of blood transfusions - 9 months of 24-hour Total Parenteral Nutrition - 14 months of chemotherapy - 2 T-cell extractions - 1 CAR T-cell transplant procedure Fall 2023 The Mother’s Day 5K Race was something I always looked forward to every year, so my family and I kept returning every chance we could. But once I got sick, walking a 5K became a distant memory… UNTIL last Saturday! Once I was 100 days post-transplant in January, one of the first things I wanted to do was complete the 2024 Mother’s Day race. Typically, I would run and try to “best” my past year’s time. This time, however, it would be different. My goal was to walk it, finish it, AND accept whatever God allowed me to do, OR not do. I would accept what the Lord wanted rather than wielding my way over the Lord’s best plan for me. While I had numerous challenges and much less training than would be optimal… I DID IT… HIS way… and completed the race! At one point, I knew my pace could give me a finish time similar to my past races. I pushed a little harder, not letting up, and then… I got dizzy! I could see the ambulance close by and I thought, “No, not again!” My heart sunk. All I wanted to do was finish the race. But then, I remembered it wasn’t about me. It was about God. It was about what He had allowed me to do in the first place… LIVE! It was His sovereignty that even allowed me to survive the past three years and feel well enough now to walk a 5K race! I prayed. I asked the Lord to resolve the dizziness and help me to feel better so that I could finish the race. That was my heart’s desire, although I was prepared to quit. This time, I yielded to Him and slowed my pace to see if the dizziness would let up. It did… and I finished! Today’s task - Catch a cop. Now, I don’t go for just any cop, no, I go for the chief and I got him! Today was so much fun! I went and represented the disabled community at a 5k fundraiser to raise money for another wheelchair swing at a local park. The kids got to catch a cop, and each flag a kid pulled off of the cop was worth money. Then they had the 5k race. If I remember correctly there were 200 racers, there may have been more but I remember hearing 200. I think I can speak for the entire wheelchair community when I say Thank you! Thank you to Youth Leadership Academy of South Carolina for getting the fundraiser together. Thank you Pickens Police Department for letting kids chase you lol. And a big Thank you to all the ones who ran the 5k race. Without you running these wheelchair swings wouldn’t have happened. These swings are so important because it makes us wheelchair users feel included and that’s what we want most. Thank you again! ❤️ Also, a personal thank you to my cousins for running and supporting this great fundraiser! I will say that the goal today was exceeded, and they are going to start raising for swing #3 with the overflow! 👏🏻👏🏻Great job, y'all!!!! Today @emily_buckle_ ran her first ever race and I was lucky enough to pace her to a sub 30 min PB 🔥🔥 This girl has only been running 8 weeks on her own and is already smashing out a 29min 40 sec PB, amazing and I couldn’t be prouder! It was hot very hot, the atmosphere was electric, the support crew was awesome and most of it was so fun. So good to see so many familiar faces from the running community. Always my favourite part of race days. A race I throughly enjoyed and a day I never thought I’d see, running with Emily in a race 🤣❤️ FINALLY @officialtwilightraces has seen sense and switched back to metal medal… hallelujah 🙌🏻

National Police Week 5K 💙 This was my first race with the double stroller. I didn’t quite know what to expect and had a loose goal of a sub-30 minute 5K. I typically run in the 10min/mile range with the stroller. Today’s Tip: they’re watching their moms. I want him to see it all. He may not realize it now, but watching MY actions will likely influence his. They aren’t always acting like they’re listening, but they are. And they are sure as anything watching what you do AND if you back up what your words. They hear how you speak about yourself. They think you’re the center of their universe, So if YOU say negative things about yourself, They probably should too. They see what you choose for yourself, And want to be like you. They see the hard work, training, and resting to reach a goal. They may not think that’s something they want to do, but the time will come where they need some grit, And they’ll remember how you tackled obstacles to find yours. Today, I ran a 5K at a local park and won my age group for women! 🥳 He saw me cross the finish but he also saw me fighting to steady my breath and the work that led up to it. I didn’t just show up that day, I model showing up every day so he will do the same 💪 Shoutout to all the moms and women showing up for kids today so they’ll learn to show up for themselves the same way tomorrow 👏👏

High Tail to Ale 5k with my @downtowndetroitrunners family and my kiddos, who never met a dirt parking lot they didn’t like 🙄 I still get nervous before every race, and I get euphoric when I run well. Apparently this is a great thing to teach our kids - it is okay to feel uncomfortable before doing something that seems scary - and when you get through it you build competence and self confidence. So I shared with Finn that I was nervous today because I have been training harder and my race may not go well and that’s okay. I don’t always hit the times I am hoping for, but I don’t give up either. Sometimes I don’t know how I’m gonna feel until the gun goes off and I just go. I am proud of myself every time I go out there and push hard, even when my body is tired or I’m sick or I didn’t get enough sleep and it doesn’t go as well as hoped. Life is life, especially with kids. I also know I get better each time I try, so this is my 3rd 5k this season and the best yet. I took part in this event as an @autismspeakscanada team up ambassador to raise awareness and charitable funds for this organization.
