It’s always a treat to spend time at the @amamuseum, the museum of the Organization of American States (OAS) that showcases modern and contemporary art from the Americas (it is the oldest museum of modern and contemporary Latin American and Caribbean art in the US). The building alone—with its sky-blue Mayan-inspired loggia—is well worth a visit, but the exhibits are always interesting too. The one there now is a partnership between the AMA and the @el_bid (IDB) Cultural Center, the Permanent Observer Mission of Italy to the OAS, and the Italian Cultural Institute of Washington @italyinus: “Across the Great Atlantic: Art of the #ItalianDiaspora in the Americas of the 20th Century.” As always, I got to know new-to-me artists I wouldn’t otherwise see: 1. I don’t know how we almost missed @artomatic_dc, which closed last night after a 7-week run. This is the first time it’s back since 2017. It is such a great idea: 800+ artists take over an empty office building to show their work—this year, across 300,000 square feet and 8 floors of brutalist glory between @goldentriangledc and @foggybottomdc. There were also some performance stages and workshop spaces on several floors — Aidan, as always, was mesmerized by music. We only got to see 3 floors. It felt like such a great community space.
