Expats (Expatriadas) Miniserie norteamericana de drama/drama un poco de drama. Cuenta la historia de un grupo de mujeres y las circunstancias por las que pasan. Decir más es echar el cuento. Es una producción a la que se le pudo sacar muchísima punta y no lo hicieron. Además por momentos es muy lenta, asumo que era para poder sumergirnos en los sentimientos y padecimientos de las protagonistas, pero el efecto se diluye. No obstante, para mí las actuaciones de @nicolekidman, @jiyoung_ie y @jackhustonrussia son muy buenas, sin minimizar las otras, por supuesto. I met Anatol Yusef maybe 6 yrs ago, when I lived in New York. It was a warm June eve. We ran around all night. Stopping by various bars and pubs in Manhattan. Getting to know each other the old skool way - face to face. We got along immediately. Our combined energies created this electric vibrancy- which doesn't happen too often. That night, I remember him being very intelligent, very witty and quick. And truly one of the funniest people I've ever met. We have the same abstract sense of humor. In fact, we first bonded over these nonstop surreal absurdist David Lynch jokes (an homage of course). Man, there were so many good jokes. "Expatriadas" es lo nuevo de Amazon Prime, donde podemos ver la historia de estas 3 mujeres, que viven en Hong Kong pero son originarias de Estados Unidos. Margaret está atravesando una grave tragedia familiar relacionada con la desaparición de su hijo. Hilary aparentemente lo tiene todo: carrera, estilo, belleza, pero lucha con cualquier tipo de vida hogareña o familiar fuera de su trabajo, especialmente en lo que se refiere a su marido. Mercy es una joven dividida entre sus aventuras de adolescente en Hong Kong y sus relaciones con hombres mayores. A medida que la serie avanza a lo largo de sus seis episodios, estos tres personajes convergen de maneras inesperadas (y ahí viene lo interesante que tiene esta miniserie). Si bien me gustó, sentí que cada episodio tuvo suficientes momentos emotivos o profundamente estimulantes para nunca ser aburrido, pero en el gran esquema de las cosas no sentí que sumara mucho. Y me sigue pasando algo con Nicole Kidman, que sabiendo que es una buena actriz, su cara deja de transmitir las sensaciones de sus personajes por la inexpresividad que tiene por sus cirugías, botox o lo que fuere que se haga. Hay una abismal diferencia entre lo que dicen sus líneas y lo que su rostro dice. Muchas veces la gente olvida que cada ser humano y cada persona tiene su propia historia que contar, y que todas las familias felices son iguales y donde cada familia infeliz lo es a su manera. Y además, tenemos un personaje escondido. La ciudad de Hong Kong es claramente un personaje de esa serie. Podemos sentir el aire, los sabores, podemos oler la comida: la directora supo realmente no dejar de pasar por alto estos detalles que sumaron mucho a cada historia. Sin maravillarme, me gustó. Собственно ради Де Ниро я и затеял просмотр этого фильма 17 августа прошлого года, в день 80-тилетнего юбилея маэстро! Не хотелось смотреть очередную комедию, в которых он сейчас с завидной регулярностью снимается, но желание было посмотреть свежее и серьёзное кино. Выбор пал на "Гнев во спасение", вышедший в кино в канун нового 2023 года. Le tre donne sono e si sentono espatriate. Hanno lasciato il loro Paese e tutto ciò che avevano per seguire opportunità o il proprio partner. Si ritrovano in un mondo nuovo, non conoscono la lingua e fanno fatica ad ambientarsi. Non solo, sono espatriate anche nella loro stessa famiglia. Sono sole per motivi diversi. . Il tema portante è quello della maternità, che viene affrontato in tantissimi modi diversi attraverso le tre protagoniste. L’essere madri non è solo fonte di gioia, ma anche di angoscia, dolore, pressione sociale e aspettative. L’essere madri non deve essere imposto, ma una libera scelta. Questi sono solo alcuni aspetti, ma nella serie ce ne sono molti altri, alcuni legati direttamente alla tragedia che avverrà. Altro tema è quello del divario sociale. 2024 Series #14 Expats - ★★★ (2024) There is an impressive diversity of themes in this solid but somewhat boring Prime Video miniseries. Expats handles topics such as grief, womanhood, cultural displacement, social and economic divisions, as well as cultural privilege. This is not the kind of show that reveals all its cards at once, but the slow pace and somber tone make it a bit difficult to delve deeper into its plot because at times it gives the feeling that the narrative is not moving forward. As if it is stuck in a situation that makes clear what it wants to say but fails to become more convincing despite how enriched it is by the specific nature of the cultural context of what it narrates and, above all, by its deep exploration of such challenging themes. Clearly the biggest name in this project is Nicole Kidman, but I give more credit to the acting work of Sarayu Rao and Ji-young Yoo. Lulu Wang's direction, the filmmaker who rose to fame for 2019's The Farewell, hits a few steps back and a few steps forward, but I do have to say that jumping from a small indie film to a much more ambitious miniseries and pulling it off, is not something that just anyone does. Expats is a decent option. Rasanya konflik soal kehilangan anak, rumah tangga yang retak, hingga stigma pembawa sial di negeri orang tidak perlu durasi sepanjang itu. Sampai akhirnya muncul episode 5 yang meski terkesan filler namun memperbaiki ekspektasi hiboorun soal series ini. Episode "filler" dengan durasi film yang menjadi penghormatan terhadap ART dari Filipina dan gerakan pro demokrasi Hong Kong membuat feel series ini jadi lebih puitis. Dan membuat akhir yang "nyaman" untuk ketiga protagonis kita. Alhasil, ketidaksempurnaan 4 episode awal jadi termaafkan. Dengan penggarapan sedemikian rupa , kita tenggelam dalam suasana melankolis Hong Kong dan resahnya ketiga wanita yang menjadi tokoh disini. Kota ini lumayan pas untuk konten urban seperti ini. Feel mereka terasa personal dan dengan gaya yang sedemikian rupa menjadi semakin intim. Meski sebenarnya Hong Kong disini kurang "bersinar" , namun sudah menjadi "tokoh" disini (sepertinya perlu lebih banyak shot kota). Cerita ini bisa saja dipindahkan ke kota lain, namun belum tentu bisa seperti disini . The Farewell (2019) filminin ardından Lulu Wang yönetmenliğindeki yeni bir yapım izlemek, üstelik bunun üç kadın oyuncunun başrolünde olduğu bir mini dizi olması, benim için ilginç bir deneyimdi. Lulu Wang’ın drama ile gizemi bir araya getirdiği atmosferini, oyuncuların performanslarını ve karakterler oluşumlarını beğendim kesinlikle. Her birinin hayatındaki karmaşayı görmek, anlamaya çalışmak güzeldi. Ayrıca Hong Kong’u, böyle bir estetik yapıda görmek de hoşuma gitti. Fakat dizinin iki büyük problemi vardı: Birincisi, senaryo için çok uzun kalan bölüm süreleri. Toplamda 6 bölümlük bir dizi olmasına rağmen bittiğinde bende kalan his daha fazlaydı. İkincisi ise “annelik, aile, yas, sınıf ayrımcılığı, göç, suçluluk, acı, aşk” gibi güçlü temaları olmasına rağmen karmaşık ama hafif bir anlatım tarzı olmasıydı. Burada da yine senaryo devreye giriyor. Çok daha derinlikli ve ağır işlenebilirmiş, imkanlar tam olarak değerlendirilmemiş gibi hissettim. Tabii her şeye rağmen, bana kalırsa izlemesi etkileyici bir deneyimdi.
