Using fear to change behaviour can result in a quiet, compliant child. BUT Children can't learn when they are afraid. Using tactics such as yelling, threatening, isolation, or removal of desired items/interactions only damages a child's feelings of trust and security and teaches them to be fearful of you. Children learn when they feel safe, heard, and cared for. We can teach children how to manage big feelings and how to move through their daily routines when we approach them from a lens of curiosity and care rather than control and force.
