Two of the most complementary and contrasting single-vineyard sites within Zind-Humbrecht’s portfolio are the limestone-rich Clos Windsbuhl vineyard in the Hunawihr region in Central Alsace and the volcanic Clos-Saint-Urbain vineyard located in the most southerly part of Alsace, within the Grand Cru of Rangen de Thann – the most iconic and historic vineyard of the region. The wines are barrel-fermented in the old traditional oak foudres using only natural yeasts, typically taking a staggering 12 to 15 months to ferment. Clos Windsbuhl overlooks the church of Sainte Hune. A monopole site (owned entirely by Zind-Humbrecht), it isn’t actually a Grand Cru, although many believe it should be. It sits directly above the Grand Cru of Rosacker – the source of Alsace’s most cult wine Clos Sainte Hune. It has a distinct soil type, rich in limestone with clay and chalk on the lower part. It is one of the last vineyards to ripen in Alsace due to its high altitude (350 metres above sea-level). It is this cooling influence and slow ripening that creates the aromatic complexity typical of this vineyard. Clos-Saint-Urbain sits within the Grand Cru of Rangen de Thann and is Alsace’s most southerly vineyard with a unique composition of highly mineralised volcanic soil (unlike any other site in Alsace). With its south-facing steep vineyards, the vines get incredible sun exposure, and the dark reddish-brown soil heats up like a furnace. All these elements help the grapes reach high levels of ripeness, while the altitude of 350 to 450 metres means the vines are some of the most late-ripening, with the harvest often taking place two to three weeks after the start of the harvesting period in Alsace. 🟡 ■第26話：いかした娘と絵巻物～貴腐ワイン最高峰 2015年の初春。神泉「遠藤利三郎商店」へと男６人で繰り出し、わいわいと楽しく飲んでいた。フランソワ・ラマルシュのヴォーヌ・ロマネ１級なんてのを平気で開けていたものだから、店の人は「こいつらならきっと飲むぞ」と思ったのであろう、宴も終わる頃合にデザートワインを勧めてくれた。「375mlなら丁度いいね」と開けることに…。 ☆☆ ドイツ語っぽい綴りがエチケットに並んでいる。ツィント・フンブレヒト ヴィンツェンハイム ゲヴュルツトラミネール セレクション・ド・グラン・ノーブル。ふ～ん、ドイツワインなんだ、と早合点していたけれど、これはアルザスの甘口ワイン。 つ～んとしたシンナーのような鋭さにはじめはたじろぐが、気づけば実にたっぷりとした香りにすっかり心を奪われていた。最初の鋭さはフェイントだったんだな。それまでフランスの貴腐ワインといえば「シャトー・クーテ」しか飲んだことがなく、それは甘さ控えめで軽く、優しいイメージだった。しかし、このアルザスの娘は許されるぎりぎりまでの甘さを蔵している。濃い。渋柿の甘さと境地が似ているなあ。しかもゲヴュルツらしい華の香りが口の中にぶわっと広がるのだ。すごいボリューム感。 いや～、一発で惚れたわ。お気に入りのドンナフガータ「ベン・リエ」に比肩する。ただ、タイプが違う。ベン・リエは、褐色でスパイスの味がする、とにかくチョコに合う、そして、口の中でどかん！と広がらない。 ところが、その後一所懸命ネットで探したが、この娘に再び会うことはできなかった。 ☆☆ 目の前にはあっという間に空っぽになったハーフボトルが立っている。もちろん店員がそれを見逃すはずがなく、もう一本ハーフを手に携えて近寄ってきた。 ええっ！？ なんとっ、あのイケム！！1999年。「誰か飲んだことある奴、居る？」「いや、無い」「俺も無い」「いいじゃん、イケム、一度ぐらい飲んでみようよ」。僕たちはペットショップから飼い主のもとに引き取られていった柴の仔犬のように素直だった。 至高の境地だ。 「飲む黄金」。色も、味も、価格も。 ボルドーの貴腐ワイン最高峰。僕の語る言葉で汚したくない。はじめは、普通の、ちょっと高級なハチミツであるかのごとき親しみやすさを演じておきながら、匂いをかぎ、そして雫を口に運んだとたんに諸々のことが一挙にどかん！と広がって、そのあとは頭がトロンとする。多くの時間の連続がこの一口の中から絵巻物となって出現する。漫画『神の雫』でクロニクルと表現されていたのをなるほどなあと思った。 幸いイケムはお金さえ出せば手に入る。死ぬまでにもう一度飲んでみてもいいかな。 #alsacegrandcruhengst #wintzenheim #selectiondegrainsnobles #gewurztraminer #zindhumbrecht #chateaudyquem

Ian showing you the correct, highly refined, technique 😂 by which to go slurping glass (sweet potato) noodles at Michelin-starred Xin Rong Ji, one of China's best seafood restaurants. Now a chain with different branches including, 3-, 2- and 1-starred destinations, Xin Rong Ji features the cuisine typical of the Zhejiang province and of Taizhou in particular, which given its proximity to the East China Sea, means not much poultry and pork like u get in say Cantonese cuisine, but lots of finned creatures and seafood. The restaurant is most famous for its wild-caught yellow croaker fish dishes (frightfully expensive but sublime) and that attention to ingredients carries throughout the menu, including spicy turtle and the aforementioned glass noodles with sea anemone, absolutely lip-smackingly good (there's over 1000 species of sea anemones, this one, sha suan,is nicknamed garlic head because of its shape and it too is typical of the East China Sea). Not much new to report here, these value price ZHs always seem to be both very solid and carry the producer signature. Very useful in our household for sure without any FOMO-driven excitement whatsoever. A distinctly Alsatian nose of apple, mirabelle, hard candy, crushed rock and slight herbal tones. The fruit feels canned rather than fresh but it works here. On the palate it is bone dry and fairly broad with very solid acidity. Chiselled for sure. The palate mirrors the nose largely with the herbal side being a bit more prominent here. This is a markedly confident and well-rounded wine with a long finish and great drinkability. A truly perfect touch of sweetness to finish our nice tasting in last September, to celebrate @arthur_coillard ‘s marriage. Definitely a mind-blowing bottle that we do not see often! Gorgeous orange color in the glass. The first nose is just shockingly expressive, with very distinctive notes of fresh rose petals and lychees. It is so pure that it almost feels like it is a scam with fake aromas! Truly epic and disconcerting. More juicy yellow fruits and caramel. A touch of saffron too. Very complex and charming. The palate still has good vivacity. Rather light in sugars, concentrated and palate coating. Maple syrup and honey, very nice roundness and still shows good acidity. I would say this is more digest and fresher than Sauternes, and much more epic in terms of aromas. A superb bottle of Gewurtztraminer. 1998 Zind-Humbrecht Gewurztraminer Goldert Vendange Tardive. Goldert Grand Cru is a beautiful terroir of Oolithic limestone located on the town of Gueberschwihr, south of Colmar. The slope gradient is gentle and its east facing is less sun drenched than many other Grands Crus in the region. Fun fact in 1998, there was the Nagano Olympics, Titanic was the 1st movie to gross $1B and then then was the whole Bill and Monica scandal. From 750ml. This bottle was leftover from 2 nights prior. Lost in the shuffle in the wine orgy (in keeping with the M&B theme) that was Alvin Garden. Colour is medium amber. Nose of orchard and tropical fruits (bruised apples, orange citrus, lychee!), caramel, spices and rose water. This wine has the vibrancy (acidity) of a 22 year old intern. Full body. Long and smooth impeachment level minute long finish. Almost needed to find a smoke after a sip of this elixir. A Clarets realizou treinamento para sua equipe de vendas com vinhos do Domaine Zind-Humbrecht, produtor localizado na região da Alsácia. Sediados no vilarejo de Turckheim, com pouco menos de quatro mil habitantes, os Zind-Humbrecht têm vinhedos em quatro outras comunas e em quatro dos mais prestigiados Grand Crus da Alsácia. Em Hunawihr produzem, com a Riesling, o Clos Windsbuhl Monopole – célebre há pelo menos 700 anos, o vinhedo pertenceu aos Habsburgos até o fim da Guerra dos Trinta Anos. Em Gueberschwihr, propriedade mais antiga da família, é feito o Muscat Golbert Grand Cru. Em Thann, vilarejo medieval que resistiu às duas Guerras Mundiais, o Clos Saint-Urbain Rangen de Thann, Grand Cru de Pinot Gris, é produzido em um solo de rochas vulcânicas de 300 milhões de anos. Na propriedade ancestral da família Zind, Wintzenheim, é produzido o Gewürztraminer Hengst Grains Nobles Grand Cru. A vocação para a podridão nobre, dos bagos de uva acometidos pelo fungo da botrytis, é tamanha que há mais de 30 anos as safras do Clos Jebsal são classificadas como “Vendange Tardive” ou “Sélection de Grains Nobles”. En middag sist fredag med gode naboer endte opp som det beste asiatiske måltidet jeg har spist noen gang. @tommyraanti styrte skuta på kjøkkenet men hadde god hjelp særlig av @thorbjornsamdal og Christian. Tommy sine retter var komplekse og holdt svært høyt nivå. På bildene ser man: - sashimi av laks med mango - tartar av hummer - kalde vårruller med kamskjell og mango - to typer dumplings med svinekjøtt - bao buns med pulled pork - tom kha suppe - to typer grillspyd teriyaki (svin og storfe) I tillegg litt løjrom. Vi hadde satt sammen en vinpakke som viste seg å matche svært bra til maten. Strålende match til løjrom. Leitz Berg Roseneck Alte Reben 2011 var rik, fruktig, intens og helt nydelig til sashimi. Tydelig en del utvikling her, men har trolig enda litt mer å gå på. 2012 er på polet til 299. Løp og kjøp! Henri Germain BB 2020 og Bernard Moreau Chassagne 2015 var ganske ulike men begge strålende. Germain slank og presis med steinfrukt, Moreau rikere, fetere og med mer kraft. Begge var perfekte til vårrull med kamskjell og til hummertartar, begge rettene med relativt lite spice. Z-H pinot gris Heimbourg 2017 må ha vært et av polets beste kjøp i år til 310. Finnes enda på noen pol. Fyldig og fet både på nese og i munn. Flott konsentrasjon. Overraskende fin syre. Sto perfekt til dumplings av svin med litt chili. Joh.Jos. Prum W-S Kabinett 2007 var en av årets beste vinmatcher til suppen, som hadde fått en del spice for å matche den med vinen. En helt fantastisk kabinett med en god del utvikling men som enda er ung. Den fete og søte munnfølelsen satt perfekt til chilien og ble også nydelig balansert av fin syre. Stor opplevelse på alle måter. Mortet Gevrey VV 2010 var dessverre oksidert. Harbour Gevrey Pressonier Cuvee Clos du Stavanger 2016 var en fin erstatning. Fruktig men med litt utvikling. Veldig fin nerve i vinen. God match til bao buns. De siste vinene i kommentarfeltet.

Big fan of Zind-Humbrecht so I thought I knew what to expect here. Big powerful, off-dry even, smash in your face fruitiness. But quite surprised this one is one of the more elegant I’ve tried from the domaine. So elegant in fact that I almost thought there was something wrong with it. But then I read on their website that the 2020 vintage was picked very early compared to other wines yielding this elegant mineral and still fruity wine. Lovely peach, mango, some signs of malo especially on the palate and just a bit of nuts. Pour moi, l’un des plus beaux terroirs de @zindhumbrecht : le Clos Windsbuhl. Ce terroir repose sur un substrat calcaire ancien du Trias (Muschelkalk) et donne des vins généralement très minéraux avec beaucoup de tension. Ce Riesling sur le millésime 2016 ne déroge pas à la règle. Le vin présente une structure droite et saline avec beaucoup de vivacité ! Au nez, on retrouve des arômes d’agrumes frais. C’est très bon et la finale est salivante. Riesling Grand Cru Rangen from Thann Clos-Saint-Urbain 2018 If I had to name my top three favorite Rieslings in the world, this wine would definitely make the cut. It’s been a while since I last tasted it (except for that recent trip to Zuid Humbrecht last month), almost as long as when I was still back in Japan. Rangen, situated farther south with higher altitude, presents quite a challenge for viticulture with its steep volcanic slopes (90% gradient!). Everything has to be done by hand, sometimes even with ropes. The south exposure and cool breezes result in a slower bud-break and ripening process, contributing to the complex aroma characteristics of the grapes while maintaining high acidity. During a tasting of the 2022 vintages at the winery, this wine stood out for its smoky, flinty qualities and saline finish rather than its fruity notes. The 2018 vintage seems to have achieved perfect ripeness, displaying a beautiful golden hue. It boasts expressive aromas of pineapple, apricot, honey, sugared lemon, grapefruit, lemon peel, with a subtle hint of yeasty notes. There’s a distinct flintiness and smokiness, along with flavors of wet stone on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with a textured mouthfeel and lively high acidity. The finish is long and saline, with lingering notes of citrus peel and minerals. Absolutely my thing! To complement this wonderful wine, my husband tried out his new toy: a cold smoke machine. He lightly smoked half a snapper, then sprinkled it with salt, lime, and some good olive oil. Zind-humbrecht Brand riesling SGN 2006 진트 훔브레흐트 브랜드 리슬링 SGN 2006 알자스의 SGN 중 내가 좋아하는 스타일의 보틀을 사용하여 눈여겨 봤던 집이다. 숙성되며 세월을 색으로 표현하는 귀부와인들은, 무조건적으로 이런 투명한 보틀을 사용해야한다는게 내 생각이다. 바로 못 마시게 만들었으면 보는 재미라도 줘야 할 거 아닌가. 와인을 잘 만드는 것과, 와인 테이스팅을 잘 하는 것은 상당히 다른 문제인데. 이 집은 그렇지 않다. 마스터 오브 와인을 취득한 오너가 있는 집이기 때문이다. 어쨌든 RS 185.2g/l와 TA 5.8g/l 로 역시 30:1에 가까운 당산비를 지녔다. 스위트와인으로써는 정말 인기 품종이기도 한 리슬링에, 이상적 당산비, 외적으로 보여지는 색상... 이건 무조건 맛있는 와인이다. #sweeteine #dessertwine #alsace #riesling #zindhumbrecht #sgn #selectiondegrainsnobles #스위트와인 #디저트와인 #알자스 #리슬링 #진트훔브레흐트 #셀렉시옹드그랑노블
