#wellbeingwednesday I usually tutor 3 children in Wednesdays after school. It makes for a long day, but I feel so very rewarded (yes, teachers are weird!). This week, the family traveled to see the eclipse, so I had a free afternoon/evening. Have you read @a_land_remembered ? I am a self-declared Florida Fan. I love lots about Florida. This book is just darling, the way it explains how life in Florida developed. The Student Edition, Volume 1, has been nominated as a possible classroom novel, and I am thrilled!!! Patrick D. Smith wrote 2 versions. I read the original version while at UF. Matt and I took a weekend getaway to Cedar Key. It couldn’t have been any more of a perfect setting to finish the book 🥰. I went on to read Vol. 1 and 2 of the Student Editions. And, I loved them almost as much 💚🌴 Something about this strange land, before the 1900’s, has me enthralled. Now I might be able to read it with my students. National Chocolate Cake Day! 🍫🎂 Chocolate cake is yummy. I know there are some that say. You can never have too much chocolate, but I disagree sometimes if it's a triple chocolate cake with too much ganache. It can be too much. Luckily none of these are examples of that. 1) Chocolate cake from Paul Martin's @paulmartinsag I like their chocolate cake a lot. 5 layers and their ganache is not too sweet. 2) Chocolate cake from Paul Martin's but take out version. 3) Chocolate Baby Bundt Cake from Corner Bakery @cornerbakery Corner Bakery has really good soups, sandwiches and pasta. Their chocolate cake is pretty good. 4) Chocolate Cake from A Land Remembered in Orlando Florida 5) Cookies and Creme Keyk from @justforkeyks when they were based in LA I had ordered some for my bday one year. All of their flavors are good. Had the opportunity to fish a couple days on the Nature Coast with my friend Trey. He was able to pole the boat, sight the fish and get the cast and hook set on video. We had a great couple days with the best day landing 5 reds, 2 black drum, 2 snook, a nice triple tail and were off the water by 1:30 for a late lunch. Today, on the shores of Crooked Lake… Bok Knights in the Agriculture and Outdoor Leadership programs have been immersing themselves in A Land Remembered by Patrick Smith, a classic Florida based novel involving the adventures of the MacIvey family, a fictional family, whose roots are based right near Lake Wales here on the Kissimmee River. Today students celebrated A Land Remembered Day - A Florida History Experience, where they got to experience first hand what it would be like to live in the Florida wilderness of the past. Students were able to dress the part, take part in dutch oven cooking, make their own butter, sample "Cowboy Coffee" and visit with a modern day cattleman, JB Wynn, with his faithful horse, Jim. All of our Bok Academy Electives teachers and their classes helped make the experience complete with traditional Americana music, exuberant line dancing, making of corn husk dolls, Spanish heritage displays, and primitive paint making techniques. Today I finished listening to A Land Remembered, which is the story of 3 generations of a Florida family, beginning in the 1800’s. When we first moved to Florida almost 5 years ago, a neighbor recommended this book and said that I had to read it. It took long enough, but I finally read it and really enjoyed it. I would recommend it to any Floridian or anyone who enjoys historical fiction. Is there a book that everyone in your state “must” read? I’d love to hear about it!

Despite some pesky mosquitos and 2 short downpours, students were lucky to see several deer, a pioneer sawmill in full operation, and a pioneer compound that included a smokehouse, a sugar cane cooker and a garden. One of my very favorite units to teach is our unit on the Seminole Tribe of Florida. After our study of the tribe and the culmination of our reading of Patrick Smith’s A Land Remembered, students study Seminole patchwork. They then thoughtfully give themselves a tribal name and create patchwork that might tell the story of their name. I am beyond proud of my students for thinking with their hearts and minds throughout this unit. Had an absolutely lovely time at #ALandRemembered for my birthday dinner. Each and every dish we tried was perfect and delicious. The best parts? They had a birthday card waiting for me at the table, and the dessert was a birthday treat! It’s a good way to celebrate 33. Thank you so much, @a_land_remembered! So y’all know what we had, the pictures, in order, show — shrimp and lobster bisque, lamb ribs, crab cake (Ma chose to have these 2 appetizers instead of a full entree), filet mignon with black garlic butter (SO GOOD), and my chocolate cake treat 🥰🥰🥰🥰 I did not include my photo of the mashed potatoes, which I would say are some of the best I’ve ever had (and I’m picky with my mashed potatoes). The cake was **divine**, and the perfect end to a truly fantastic meal and a wonderful experience. I can’t wait to come back and try the Wagyu carpaccio.
