One of the most creative horror movies that I've seen in ages. Barbarian is raw, gritty and macabre in a great way. The acting is good, the horror elements are better, but the photography is outstanding. The story is a bit strange and even if the movie loses some tempo and tension in the end, I still enjoyed this fresh, modern horror.

Dutch thriller ‘The Vanishing’ (1988) is widely considered to be one of the scariest films of all time. The Dutch title of the film is Spoorloos, which means Without a Trace. It follows two young people, Rex (Gene Bervoets) and Saskia (Johanna ter Steege), on a road trip to their biking holiday in France. As they drive, Saskia tells Rex about a recurring dream of a mysterious golden egg she had again the previous night. The couple bicker when they run out of gas but quickly make up. When they arrive at a gas station, the two bury coins at the base of a tree to signify their friendship, and Rex promises he will always be there for Saskia. (Heads up: stop reading if you have not yet seen ‘The Vanishing’, spoilers ahead). After Saskia disappears at a gas station, the film switches to show another character, Raymond Lemorne (Bernard-Pierre Donnadieu), a family man who knows that he is a sociopath and plans to abduct a woman to prove that he is “the ultimate evil.” At an isolated country home, Raymond practices inviting women into his car and subduing them with chloroform. Three years after Saskia’s kidnapping, Rex has kept his promise to never abandon her and is still desperately searching for clues. After having his own dream about the mysterious golden egg, Rex goes on TV to beg for information about Saskia. Raymond seeks out Rex and confesses to kidnapping Saskia but tells Rex he will not say what happened to her, he will only show him. Desperate to know the truth, Rex drinks coffee he knows is laced with a sleeping pill and agrees to allow Raymond to show him what he did to Saskia. Rex awakens inside a coffin as Raymond buries him alive. Using a lighter to look around and see the box he is being buried in, Rex realizes that the flame is the mysterious golden egg both he and Saskia had dreamed about. The dream was a premonition. 😐 🔥

W zasadzie od momentu kiedy zobaczyłem pewną scenę w filmie „Lustra”, to mam na tym punkcie niemałą traumę, więc dzisiejszy post jest trochę jej urealnieniem 🫣. Zazwyczaj nie ruszają mnie horrory, jednak jeśli poruszają one tematykę opętania, to jednak działają na moją psychikę, a dokładnie taka jest druga odsłona „Zakonnicy”… Po raz kolejny wracamy do uniwersum „Obecności”, w tym po raz trzeci do demonicznej zakonnicy - Valak 💀. Czy ten film jest mądry? Nie. Czy jest najlepszą odsłoną tego uniwersum? Nie. Ale czy bawiłem się na nim przednio? A i owszem 😁💀! Jeśli miałbym podsumować jakoś ten obraz, to powiedziałbym, że jest to film, który możemy obejrzeć bez większego zaangażowania, wyłączając myślenie - ot prostu dla czystej przyjemności. I w tej formule „Zakonnica II” działa doskonale. 🖤 Dostajemy mroczną historię, pięknie zrealizowaną pod względem technicznym, z postaciami, którym chce się kibicować. Mnie to wystarczy, aby cieszyć się seansem ☺️👌🖤! (Mimo, że później przed dwa dni nie poruszałem się po mieszkaniu po ciemku 😅🫣). Za mój egzemplarz dziękuję niezawodnej ekipie @moje_filmy 🤍! Did you know that Alfred Hitchcock’s film, The Birds, was inspired by the short story of the same title by Rebecca Du Maurier?? I had no idea until I bought tickets to see the 60th anniversary showing of the film held by @fathomevents, and decided to look up the film’s history. So naturally, I had to buy this book of short stories by Du Maurier that includes “The Birds”! Hitchcock read the story and thought it was a fascinating tale, so he decided to make a film version. 🐦‍⬛🦅 The film and story are equally terrifying, but other than the birds’ vicious attacks, the stories are completely different. Du Maurier’s story takes place in a farm town in England, while Hitchcock’s film takes place on the coast of California. The characters are not the same either. Du Maurier’s main character is a farm worker protecting his family, while the film centers on the wealthy and beautiful Melanie Daniels and the attorney Mitch Brenner (she buys him love birds in the beginning of the film, which foreshadows their romance), who witness the bird attacks. I haven't yet read the other stories in the collection yet, but they're described as creepy as well, so I'm excited to get to them. 🦅🐦‍⬛ This is one of those rare times when I found the book and the film equally amazing. I loved the descriptions in DuMaurier’s story, and I loved all of the eerie and ominous visuals in the film. The sound effect of the flapping wings of the birds was so creepy! This movie scared the crap out of me as a kid, and it did the same when I watched it on the big screen. There were also a bunch of fun facts shown on the screen before the movie began. This one is a bit older, and it was an okay creepy movie. Not super scary. It did hit all the marks for creepy lost in the woods for me. Some monster stuff. Some friends are traveling stuff. We watched this tonight. It's far from the orriginal Paranormal Activity but it was.... an okay horror movie. . A little Blair Witch and a little Midsommer. Cracking little supernatural horror film tonight. It's always spookier when they are based on a true story and they don't come much spookier that the story of the Black Monk of 30 East Drive.
