It’s Medal Monday and this past weekend I ran the Disney Springtime Surprise Hakuna Matata 10-Miler… Once again I had the opportunity of running with my friend @monzofitness (who was injured but decided to do it anyways) … We decided to wear our own version of Rafiki and Zazu from the Lion King . Big Shout Out to @enchantedathleticsco for our custom made skirts, to @xicadesignsboutique for our shirts and my friend @rosiemarquez741 for our visors. How did the run go , well the weather was hotter then usual that even the pacers were told to hold back from original target time and it was extremely humid but I made it through. And so is a PR!!! 🍾 I intentionally didn’t wear a cute outfit today because I wanted to focus on the run so that I could beat my last 10k race time and end the season with a new time to beat next year. Thanks to @mayasanches I beat my last time by 4 minutes and 15 seconds!!! Today was tough with 91% humidity and my lungs weren’t feeling the best. Medal Monday Celebration 🎉 and Bucket List✅ For the last decade I’ve wanted to do the @rundisney Coast to Coast Challenge. In 2014 my girls were still young & I was a financially struggling single parent. Flying across the country to run an expensive race was not something I could do. Then in 2018, @disneyland cancelled all future races with no promise to bring them back. I was upset I would not get to fulfill this bucket list item. To my absolute surprise & utter happiness, the DL races returned. I was very lucky (with the help of @dassigk) I got into the #dumbodarechallenge & 5k. At that point, I knew 2024 was my year to make this C2C Challenge happen. I got up very early (Honolulu time) to score my #disneyprincesshalfmarathon bib. BTW: Princess Weekend was also on my bucket list. I had an amazing time running, hanging at the parks, seeing friends & clients IRL, meeting new people and promoting my #womenownedsmallbusiness. I love the way my business, love for running & Disney can combine. Also - Meet Kevin. I recently discovered that @disney Kevin & @goodr Carl are buddies. TEAM MEMBER SPOTLIGHT - GREG AND MARIA of Texas! EVENT - Disney Princess Races! My Personal Why... In August of 2008 I was diagnosed with Stage 3C Ovarian Cancer, "Poorly Differentiated Ovarian Mixed (Endometrioid and Serous) Surface Epithelial Carcinoma". Since then I have had it a total of 7 times. Yes, that is way too many times. I have had multiple abdominal surgeries, and two on my brain because it metastasized there and it really made me - NOT me. Unfortunately, I had to apply for Early Teacher Retirement since my brain has really been affected in many ways. I am saddened that I am not the same person - I loved working as a school counselor and I miss working with so many students, their families, faculty, and staff. I convinced myself that I could continue helping others by fundraising for ovarian cancer survivors and their families. Participating in the 2024 Disney Princess Marathon Weekend 10K with Team Teal of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition has encouraged me to stay physically active while fundraising money for NOCC and helping many people. In this year of great challenges, one even greater challenge remains, saving more lives from ovarian cancer. Dollars raised for the NOCC support national programs and local market initiatives to heighten awareness of the subtle signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer, assist newly diagnosed patients throughout the country, provide ongoing support to caregivers, and advocate for the advancement of ovarian cancer research... Good Afternoon, it's Monday, January 29th, officially two weeks since the Walt Disney World Half Marathon. Here's a fun photo of me on race day heading to the finish line. I look annoyed in this photo and I probably was. I was placed in Corral F despite providing proof of time (2:15 or under), some corrals had 10 waves of runners. I'd spent the last 10k weaving through walkers and joggers and probably had another km to go. Reflecting on the race I'm trying to see the good it in as there was so much good! I've never had fireworks start the mark of a race. There were 100s of cast members cheering us on to the finish line. So many people were dressed in costume and I was so much fun checking out everyone's costume. Best of all, I got to experience it all with friends! The HAPPIEST Medal Monday! 🏅🏅🏅 3 races in a row @rundisney style! ✨🏰🏃🏼♀️ We took a trip to the Bahamas on our first cruise and first Disney cruise around New Year’s, and I was able to participate in the Castaway Cay 5K ✔️total bucket list race for me! Clocked it in 23 mins and a 7:45 average fun run. The the next weekend was the Disneyland Half marathon weekend and I was able to complete the Dumbo Double Dare challenge with some of my best friends! We had the best time taking pictures and kicking off race season with a FUN 3 races! Next goal would be to do the Coast to Coast. I guess this was my own version? Medal Monday-yesterday was my 27th @rundisney race and my 9th half marathon! It’s been much different here on the west coast racing-biggest thing it’s been freezing! I’ve never raced with gloves, hand warmers and 4 layers and was still cold. It’s usually the opposite! It was a crazy course after we exited the parks around mile 5. It was all streets of Anaheim after that, including zigzagging all around angels stadium parking lot. This race had many issues with logistics, including bottlenecks in the park where water stops were, road reflectors so many tripped on, people put into random corrals 🙋🏼♀️, and standing in cold corrals for so long that muscles weren’t warmed up. I saw 7 people take hard falls with scrapes, bloody noses, bruised sternums and dislocated shoulders. (One lady who fell, it was her 200th Disney race and she was 30 yards from the finish.) It was nothing like I’d seen before at a race. Even with all that, I was able to finish with a time that was 15 minutes faster than any other half I’ve done!!! 🏰 Just casually running through Cinderalla’s Castle in the Magic Kingdom as part of the Walt Disney Marathon — where (almost) every mile is magic ✨ I’m a Disney Marathoner! 💫16th overall female// 5th in my division ✨ Last Sunday’s race still doesn’t seem real… and nothing short of epic. I wasn’t sure what to expect, and I honestly wasn’t so sure it would even happen this year, especially the week of the race. But that Disney magic is real, and I leaned in on race day. It was probably the most relaxed I’ve ever been going into a race, maybe it was the exhaustion of the Disney parks, or maybe because I was 27 weeks pregnant for my last marathon, but even the 2 AM wake up call (yes, you read that right), didn’t seem to bad given the obstacles I faced to get here. So I knew that no matter what I needed to give it my best effort and enjoy the miles for my first postpartum marathon since Maeve. And I did, running thought the parks was magical, especially in the dark when they were empty. Making friends made the lonely miles way more fun and helped when the downpour of a monsoon came through at the toughest part of the race (miles 18-23). The last few miles were tough, but was able to finish strong! The entire race was organized so well and I definitely recommend a Disney race if it’s on your wishlist. Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend - Half Marathon Last weekend JC and I travelled to Orlando for the WDW Half Marathon. We got off the plane and headed straight for the expo as our race was the following morning. At dinner that evening we found out that our race distsnce had dropped down to 11.1k as there were possible thunderstorms and rain in the forecast. This meant that we would begin running at 4:45am and we would no longer be running through Magic Kingdom and Cinderella's castle. Race day morning arrived and spirits were high and hopeful. We had a great time hanging out with Cassie while waiting for the race to begin. It started *lightly* raining once we arrived at Epcot and we felt a change very quickly. As we ran around the World Showcase almost all photographers had left or were packing up. Once we crossed the finish line we were told to go straight to our shuttle and back to our hotels. While this was not the experience we expected based on the hefty price tag and hype we did have fun and made the most of it. I'm really glad we were down for more than the race and overall had a wonderful trip. We are also considering going back for Disneyland's Halloween Half and to earn the Coast to Coast medal. I kept saying that I was “only doing the 5K” because let’s be real, many others were running 48.6 miles total over the four day event😳 But I learned quickly to knock out that negative talk because that is not what RunDisney is about. The RunDisney community is a beautiful and inclusive one that is accepting of ALL types of runners. And yes, if you go out for a run, you are a runner. There is nothing quite like experiencing the energy of the corrals, the support and all of the fun on the course, and that feeling of crossing the finish line and receiving your medal. RunDisney is different and it is special - it’s definitely something you should experience if it is even remotely interesting to you. If you are following along with the races this weekend and thinking it might be on your bucket list for someday, let me help make that a reality! Signing up for a RunDisney race is something that takes a lot of pre-planning. The majority of those racing this weekend signed up in APRIL 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣3️⃣ (eight whole months ago) and the available registrations sold out for all races within a few short hours. The good news is, RunDisney has already shared all the dates of the upcoming races through April 2025 and the dates that registration will open, so we can start planning now. If one of the 2024 races is of interest, let’s get your resort booked now with just a $200 deposit. Availability at the resorts for these race weekends goes quickly, so it’s better to reserve now and then if for some reason you aren’t able to get registered for that race, we can get your deposit refunded or shift your trip dates to better work for you.
