Italy Released 7 months before 'Cannibal Holocaust', 80, from #cultdirector Lenzi,(Last Man To Kill, 66, Spasmo, 74) who also made the infamous cannibal nasties, Section 1, Cannibal Ferox, 81 & Section 2 'Deep River Savages', 72: the 2nd of which, along with 'Cannibal', 77 & 'Prisoner Of A Cannibal God, 87, (Both of which, are also on the #videonastieslist ) this film literally lifts much of it's gore & all it's animal cruelty, bar 1 scene involving the senseless killing of a snake. There is some then new gore SFX from #paulranieri (Hitchhike, 77) too & it's full 92m cut is amid the more extreme of the DPP, listed films. In the UK, the movie was heavily cut in cinemas, prohibited as a nasty & has since been released in truncated forms. Many of the cuts are of animal cruelty, that ought never have been shot, so these cuts are understandable. EA is an #exploitationfilm of the jungle cannibal adventure variety, that's more old time adventure, with turned sleezy #splatterfilm than moralistic Mondo movie. The excellent cinematography, making good use of beautiful Sri Lankan countryside, masquerading as New Guinea, from cinematography from #federicozanni (A Man Called Blade, 77) & an atmospheric score from #robertodonato (C. Ferox) EA features a cast of faces familiar to Euro trash fans, including #robertkerman (C. Holocaust) #janetagren (Gates Of Hell, 80) #ivanrassimov (Deep River Savages) #paolasenatore (Madame Kitty, 76) #memelai (Cannibal, 77) & #melferrer (Nightmare City, 80) all of whom do a good enough job. Partly based on the Jim Jones, Guyana suicide cult. Sheila's (Agren) sister Diana (Senatore) is missing, believed to have been kidnapped by a sinister hippy cult, headed up by the Jim Jones like Jonas (Rassimov). The set have a base located deep in the N. Guinean jungle, a place where hungry cannibals lurk. With the assistance of ex Vietnam vet, Mark (Kerman) Shela travels to the rainforest in search of her sister. While this is not a great it is a good film that I'd recommend, were it not for the frequent edited in scenes of animal cruelty.
Next up is Doomed To Die, another in the Boris Karloff run of murder mysteries with him playing an Asian detective named Mr. Wong. This is the last of 4 that he starred in before an Asian-American actor took over the role for the 5th movie. I watched the 3rd not too long ago, but I assume the first 2 movies aren't included in this set or they would have been in the mix before 3 & 4. Nachtfalke - Doomed to Die Nachtfalke is a German black metal project from Occulta Mors, one of the most important figures of the scene. He is the brains behind Moonblood and a contributor to many other bands. In Nachtfalke he plays a more pagan influenced style of black metal. This is the second album by him and it was released in 2002. It sounds like if you mixed Moonblood and Viking era Bathory together. There’s the violent tempos and rawness of the Moonblood camp, but also a lot of folk influence on the melodies and overall theme which hearken back to albums like “Hammerheart.” I recommend the songs “Valhalla” and “Einherjer (Doomed to Die).” And the Bathory cover is actually solid. 💿 CD Nachtfalke - Doomed to Die From the start we are greeted by a demonic voice with the sounds of a bloody battle in the background, welcoming us on an immersive journey and giving us a clear certainty of what to expect from this work: an authentic and quality Pagan Black Metal. At first, it is already possible to identify the low-fi production, where the guitars sound a little muffled and static, the bass appears as a background blur and the drums are played in a frantic and noisy way, characteristic of the most raw. This would be a problem for most people considering this is possibly an amateur band that hides behind poor production to disguise their lack of skill, but that's not the case here. Occulta Mors is the solo mind behind this project and the level of this recording is very high. The energetic melodic tremolo riffs provided by the guitars are amazing and I'd say a high-end production wouldn't sound so good in this case. The drums faithfully follow the frenetic ambience and the bass fills the space, without much prominence. The epic atmosphere is very well proportioned and focuses on mixing the coldness of black metal with the Viking characteristics of good pagan metal. A point worth mentioning here is the vocals, which are delivered cleanly and satisfyingly, alternating from echoed growls to small spoken parts in some parts. The album also features a cover of Bathory's "Home of Once Brave". Overall, it's a brief album, only 35 minutes, but that definitely needs to be highlighted, where all the songs are excellent and if you like bands like Moonblood you will be super satisfied with this work. "Omänsklig fasa", "Eaten Alive!", "Doomed to Die", "The Emerald Jungle", "Mangiati vivi!" eller, som den fick heta i Danmark, "Massakren i junglens dyb", från 1980, i regi av Umberto Lenzi. Sheila, spelad av svenska modellen Janet Ågren, söker febrilt efter sin försvunna syster, som efter att hon gått med i en ny församling helt gått upp i rök. På en filmrulle som påträffas på en brottsplats mitt på Manhattan kan en se korta snuttar film föreställande någon form av primitiv ceremoni. De ser ut att befinna sig i någon djungel, och bland alla deltagarna skymtas plötsligt Sheilas syster. Snabbt anlitar Sheila vietnam-dessertören och tillika djungelexperten Robert Kerman (eftersom han ju är snudd på kutym att casta i de här kannibalfilmerna) att guida henne fram till målet. Men, är de lokala kannibalstammarna verkligen de värsta att frukta, eller är det den religösa ledaren, Mr. Jonas, de egentligen bör akta aig för? En både rätt typiskt italiensk kannibal-film, samtidigt som den också är rätt jävla egen. Hela sekt-grejen sticker ju ut något kopiöst, och det är ju svårt att undgå de allt annst än subtila hintarna till den verklige och när denna gjordes fortfarande aktuella Jim Jones och massmordet i hans Folkets tempel. Lenzi berättade i en intervju jag såg hur han fick höra om hela den grejen och direkt börja fnula på hur han kunde få med det i en film. Exploaterande som han är, gamle Lenzi, valde han att slänga in kannibalism i mixen, rida på den då rätt heta kannibal-vågen och liksom slå två flugor i en smäll! Reultatet är väl... ja, habilt ändå. Den är helt okej, med tuttar, kannibalism, rasism, våld, djurplågeri och qllt det som liksom SKA finnas i en rekordilg film av den här typen, men den känns aldrig gjord helhjärtat. Både de värsta djursvenerna och flera kannibalscener är skamlöst snodda från andra filmer och musiken i denna återsnvände Lenzi sen när han skulle göra sin nästa kannibal-film, "Cannibal Ferox". Men ja, kul att både äga och ha sett, givetvis.
