The real standout of the film is in its cinematography; lingering beautiful establishing shots of the countryside the couple live in. The ending left a large enough void solely for subjective comprehension. Overall "Lamb" may not be liked by everyone it's still worth a watch for its different and strange feel as it leaves a viewer to think and apprehend. LAMB (2021) ~7/10 • The film offers beautiful imagery and breathtaking landscapes that help set the mood of isolation and a surreal story. The film’s tone stays desolate and dry. So that while you might believe it to be a horror film at first. It goes more into fantasy and even some folklore. It ends up being more of a domestic drama with an unforgettable ending as it builds an atmosphere and world around it. That offers very few answers or information and leaves quite a few questions of its own. The film is surprisingly filled with tension at times and leaves itself heartbreaking. Though through it all the film is more than just its setup and premise. One can look at the story as one of Mother Nature offering a gift and if you betray her she will take retribution. As it seems to be in human nature to take things that we might believe belong to nature and think of ourselves as better than Nature and what we see as wildlife. Animals, Mammals as that is what also lead us to destroy our surroundings and in essence us or each other. Can be seen as a kind of gentrification tale told by those in power. Who choose to take away from those who they feel are either lower class than them or who they see as not appreciating what they have the right way and that they know the right way to improve it. As they take what is special as their own. Leaving the youth confused about going against nature. Those who are expecting or wanting a return are eliminated and seen as the enemy and made out to be evil. Even when they are seeking justice or when vengeance comes, Their reach might be over. But finally can understand the reasoning. Noomi Rapace is on a roll this year with this film And the film THE TRIP. She is an actress who can say more with a look than with pages full Of dialogue. Beautiful and disturbing in equal measure, it’s difficult to discuss without giving away some wonderful surprises but here goes. On a mountainous sheep farm in remote Iceland, a grieving couple (including an incredible Noomi Rapace) are given a second chance at parenthood and happiness via a strange arrival. Naturally, it doesn’t last as selfishness, secrets and shame slowly unravel their idyllic fantasy life. Mubi debe ser la mejor app para cinefilos. Y ahora que estan trayendo las peliculas del año pasado, voy a ver las que me faltaban. Empezando con la nueva entrega del animalverso que tiene A24. Lamb: Una familia de granjeros islandeses, Maria (Noomi Rapace) y Ingvar (Hilmir Snær Guðnason) son bendecidos con el regalo de la paternidad con Ada, pero no es lo que pueden esperar. Dirigida por Valdimar Jóhannsson y escrita junto a Sjón, nos da una obra realmente unica. Estoy tratando de no decir nada porque la pelicula se basa en la idea de la sorpresa que es Ada. Pero es dificil de hablar de esta pelicula porque es una obra anormal en su estructura narrativa en que no hay un foco claro y lo que uno espera, no es lo que hace. Hace una mezcla de generos de thriller psicologico con drama familiar y fantasia (podriamos decir realismo magico) pero mas bien es un relato folk islandes. Los personajes no son complejos ni nada y no hay una historia compleja. Pero debe ser gracias a la direccion de Jóhannsson con sus encuadees muy bien cuidados y la atmosfera de tensio y dulzura que impregna la obra, hacen algo unico. Aparte de que la fotografia de Eli Arenson es lo mejor de la obra. Su uso de los colores blancos y azules, da un aire amoroso entre la familia e incertidumbre en la obra. Me recordo un poco a midsommar. Pero es que lo que afecta mas la obra es el ritmo, es muy lento. Aveces esta bien lo contemplativo y logra crear tension en partes. Pero es que solo alarga escenas y hay un personaje que se introduce pero no hace mucho. Conclusion: me gustan este tipo de propuestas arriesgadas. Esta opera prima da muestra de un director con un gran impacto visual y que juega bien con los generos. Pero es su paso muy lento y falta de tonalidad general lo que arrastra la obra. Tal vez otro enfoque o algo mas corta lo que hubiera ayudado al concepto. No es mala pero no es nada de lo que espere. Podria ser mejor, aun asi, vale la pena para los que aman las obras fuera de la norma. Puntaje: 3/5

El #cine nórdico del que se necesita más. 📸 Técnicamente: muy buena La fotografía de #EliArenson tiene planos y encuadres hermosos, una coloración fría y una cámara estática creando una atmósfera misteriosa y terrorífica. La composición musical de #ThorarinnGudnason acentua ese misterio con melodías oníricas y folclóricas. 🎭 Actoralmente: muy buena Rapace hace una actuación espléndida, con tantas emociones en su rostro sin ser sobreexpresiva, pero siempre con un dejo de melancolía. Gudnason y Haraldsson, hacen un buen trabajo, con papeles distintos, pero opacados por la protagonista. 📖 Desde la primera escena nos confirma que será una película de terror, pero con una gran carga dramática que se desarrolla con los minutos. La dirección es lenta para desarrollar la evolución de los personajes sin ser explícito. La trama está divida en capítulos, como si fuera una cuento y en parte lo es, ya que, como los cuentos folclóricos de los hermanos Grimm, nos cuenta en forma de fábula, una historia trágica con una moraleja final. Los efectos especiales, prácticos y computadorizados, crean un gran realismo sin dejar de tomar en serio la trama, aún con momentos que rozan lo bizarro. Es una reinterpretación de personajes religiosos cristianos, pero siempre con el eje en su mensaje, el dolor de la pérdida. Tiene sus problemas, como situaciones que no están bien aclaradas y quedan a libre interpretación, no es claro el tiempo transcurrido y en el final sentí que pudo haber sido mejor, aún con su relevación y el buen cierre del mensaje: El dolor no se puede subsanar con sustitutos, si no se ha aceptado la pérdida. 📌 En resumen #Lamb / #Dyrid elegida por Islandia para representarla en los premios Oscar, es una muy buena película de terror de #A24, con una gran interpretación protagónica, con una original premisa y un muy interesante mensaje.

LAMB is about a farming couple in Iceland who raise up a lamb in their home as if it were their own child. You can image the weirdness from there. I really enjoyed this movie. It’s slow, but has an odd mystery that hangs over the whole film. The story takes little twists and turns which kept me interested and excited for what new reveals would happen next. The landscape of Iceland is just beautiful and captured stunningly in this movie. Eli Arensen’s cinematography is pretty remarkable. The music is also killer. I don’t talk enough about music when I discuss movies, but I have to mention it here. Þórarinn Guðnason’s score adds so much atmosphere and mood, maintaining the mysterious vibes throughout the film. LAMB is weird and slow. Either the best movie of the year of the worst movie, Lamb has been widely talked and debated about the two weeks since it’s release. A24 has set expectations for their horror films and most people went in knowing what they’d get. I’m guilty as one of those people. However, what we got was a bit different from the rest. This is such a hard movie to describe. The trailer for the movie, as great as it looked, is misleading. It contains just enough story elements not to give it away, but the tone is completely off. Lamb is a slow-burn drama. To consider it horror is a stretch, except for one or two scenes. That’s not to say the dramatic elements don’t work. I found the story to be quite interesting. Slowly, we can piece together what this couple has gone through and what this new opportunity means to them. Noomi Rapace gives a really strong performance. She’s troubled but has to move on. And once this miracle happens, it’s the one thing in life that brings her joy and happiness. You can see the passion and dedication behind her performance. Around halfway through the movie, we’re introduced to the character of Petúr played by Björn Hlynur Haraldsson. Though not as fleshed out as he could’ve been and his introduction leaves questioning, he does a very good job. He’s more in the audience’s perspective with such a bizarre happening. The latest A24 film is an Icelandic horror fantasy staring Noomi Rapace, Hilmir Snær Guðnason, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson and Ingvar Eggert Sigurðsson. Lamb tells the story of an Icelandic couple who uncover something quite eye opening. They find a half lamb half human baby in their barn. They decide it raise the child as their own but dark mysterious forces soon will threaten them to take the child back. I checked out Lamb yesterday and it was about what I expected. It had the general feel of an A24 horror film but it didn’t have the climax I was hoping for like many other similar films. Lamb has the perfect build up with a slow yet meticulous storytelling, leading you down a intelligently drawn path. My only issue with the film is I thought the ending was quite abrupt which is fine. I just wanted a bigger payoff. Otherwise I really liked this film. The performances were excellent, the direction was terrific, the writing was genius. The music by Þórarinn Guðnason, is haunting and the cinematography by Eli Arenson is chillingly beautiful. Along with great editing by Agnieszka Glinska this film is a masterclass in filmmaking. Review: “Lamb.” Despite all intents and purposes, director Valdimar Jóhannsson’s "Lamb" is not a horror film. Not in any kind of traditional sense. On the surface, it’s barely unsettling and this is both a benefit and a detriment to its overall reception. The film tackles a horrible situation through the lens of folklore, allowing parental grief to play out both literally and thematically in ways tangible and ethereal. Due to its marketing, "Lamb" is bound to draw in curiosity, but many may find that the execution is far more like David Cronenberg-meets-"Raising Arizona," a combination that makes no sense said out loud unless you’ve witnessed the film. "Lamb" is atmospheric, tragic, and horrifying only in the sense that there is little pleasant about trying to navigate life in the aftermath of loss. So, temper your expectations and steel yourself for the horrors within as Jóhannsson and co-writer Sjón ("Fiskar á Þurru Landi") explore the depths we’ll go to preserve even the faintest sense of our family.
