From first timers to 3rd year running Couch to Bayers, everyone faced the waves and the chop and did amazingly, learning how to swim through the waves and move with the water. A lot of fun was had. Not done a Swimming post in a while. 🏊🏻♀️ I'm still going and I could speak about it for hours if I had the chance 😁 Went swimming yesterday with @benjo_489 . He smashed 40 lengths without having swum for years. Well done, you should be proud! I did my usual - 1mile-ish. (1500m/ 60 lengths). Mainly freestyle, did breast stroke maybe 4 lengths. I used paddles to break it up a bit too. It took me a bit longer than usual because we were chatting and the pool got a bit busy towards the end. Was so fun though :) 2:16, wonder if I'll ever break the 2:00! (Looking back, I have got as close at 2:02, so I can't see why not) I'm trying to slow down a bit and work on endurance and distance rather than speed. Still buzzing about last night's bouldering session 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙 and I've just done 25m front crawl in the pool this morning. I've been working on this for months!! I learned to swim aged 10/11 and I've not done crawl since. Partly water in the ear related. And I've been getting used to getting my head under water, breathing doing breast stroke and doing a bit of front crawl. I've been trying to do a length for weeks!! 🌊🌊🌊 Couch to Bay is back!!! Which means I'm back doing what I love so much. And that is watching people achieve. They set themselves a challenge, they put the hard work in, and then they go and show how capable and strong they are. The first sessions of this evening showed exactly that. Faces arriving full of anticipation and a few nerves (a lot for some). But by supporting and encouraging each other, many surpassed what they thought they would be able to do on day 1. Everyone managed to get out of their depth comfortably. Everyone swam with their faces in the water. And everyone went to say hello to the first buoy. Epic!!! The weather might have been grey and dreary, and the water temp was a bit chilllier than previous years first sessions at 11°, but that didn't stop the happy faces at the end. Well, that was something special 😍 the lake all to myself for a while before only a couple of others joined me.🏊♀️ The 750 metre loop has now re opened so I couldn't resist swimming 2 laps which felt great.🤗 The water temp is now into double figures 10 degrees, 👏🏊♀️ it was crystal clear and it was as still as a mill pond. ACTIVE APRIL - Swim Challenge Ideas If you're looking to try something new, here are some super simple swim ideas you can try. We also have some swim challenge cards at poolside you might prefer to try - just speak to one of the lifeguards. 1) Swim 10 lengths without stopping (or if you can do more, set yourself an appropriate number of lengths) 2) Set yourself a goal distance - our main pool is 20m long, so a 500 metre goal for example would be 25 lengths. 3) Do you always do breaststroke? Try doing a different stroke for each length - backstroke is generally easier than front crawl for most people so try that if you're not so confident with the others (unless you're an absolute master and can smash out some elegant butterfly!) 4) Up your speed and see how many lengths you can do in 10 minutes, or 20, depending on your fitness levels. Never one to let rain stop play...I was the only one in the lake this afternoon and I had a great swim trying and testing out my new #2xu wetsuit. 👍🏊♀️🏊♀️. Chasing fear today. And I won! 🏆 🏆 PBs in every distance, and the longest distance I’ve ever swam. Going back to my childhood swimming pool where the fear of drowning began was no easy task. But I wanted to see how much better I could swim in a longer pool. The first few laps were a real struggle mentally and I had to have a word with myself and remind myself that I CAN swim and I won’t drown. My smiling picture might make you think it’s easy, but it’s not. Every time I missed a breath, choked on water, got overtaken by a faster swimmer, I had to really convince myself to keep going. But I did, because I know I can do it and I’m stronger than my fear.
