Comme beaucoup de burlesques, Otar Iosseliani nourrissait son regard d’une observation avide et curieuse de la fantaisie du réel. Ce mouvement de la réalité vers le cinéma - qu’il soit de fiction ou non - s’exprime sans doute le mieux dans Sept pièces pour cinéma noir et blanc (1982). Tout le cinéma d’Otar Iosseliani est « muet sonore » ; on entend par là que le bruit, la musicalité, la parole et la voix ne sont pas hiérarchisés : les mots et les vocables sont un son comme un autre. L’auteur a ainsi tenu à ce que Vieilles chansons géorgiennes et Euskadi soient projetés sans aucun sous-titrage, et donc entendus et compris à partir des seuls vocables géorgiens et basques. La forme documentaire n’est pour Otar Iosseliani en rien le lieu d’un relâchement récréatif. Une des grandes affaires de sa vie fut aussi bien sûr cette Géorgie malmenée par l’histoire, comme en témoignent ici Vieilles chanson géorgiennes (1968) ou Seule, Géorgie (1993). There are two sides at night view from my window in Batumi. First photo is the left view, it's Black Sea. Most of the time, when I look to the left at night, I see nothing, only darkness. The second photo is the right side - The city of Batumi, an urban space, with tall, bright skyscrapers and chaotic infrastructural projects. RIP Otar Iosseliani, arguably one of the greatest Georgian film directors 🎥 “It is clear from these fables that Iosseliani valued highly the need to be true to oneself; it is clear, too, in the immediately distinctive style of his films, with their delicacy of tone, their meandering narratives, their non-professional actors, long takes, fluid camera movements and distaste for direct statements of any kind. (One might liken his work, in certain respects, to Tati, Keaton, Vigo, even Buñuel, but in the end it feels utterly unique.) #柏木リエ さんのフォークロアカレンダー、10月はジョージア🇬🇪で、黒チョハ男子がカッコええなと思ってた。レジャバ大使も着てた民族衣装の、胸のヒダが銃弾を入れるポケットなのは、戦士の証😉今月は#ジョージア映画 の話しようと思ってたが、モタモタしてたら、もう最終日で焦る～😅 1991年の6月、パラジャーノフ祭なんつーヤバめの映画祭があって、この時はまだソ連あったんだね😅何と崩壊の半年前‼️ゴルバチョフのペレストロイカのお陰で、世界で公開される様になったんだろうけど、何と言う皮肉😅 私は#キネカ錦糸町 で#スラム砦の伝説 を見たが、ソビエト映画専門だったなんて、当時は知らんかったな。 #セルゲイパラジャーノフ がジョージアで撮った最後の作品、#アシクケリブ だけ見てなかったので、YouTubeで見てみた。字幕無くても絵的に面白い。お伽噺でプロットがシンプルだし。 で、YouTubeがオススメしてきた監督のドキュメンタリー「I am #SergeiParajanov 」も良かった😆英語字幕付いてるから、何とか追えた。特に撮影中の監督に密着してる映像が、大変興味深い。俳優さん達に、踊りの振りや演技付けてる様子とか、何か楽しそうで良い😄山田五郎さんがピロスマニの話した時に、「ジョージアの人は、外でワイン飲んでドンチャン騒ぎするご陽気なパリピ」とか、話してたの思い出した。あ、監督はトビリシ生まれのアルメニア人ではあるけどね😁 リエさんの絵にも葡萄描かれてますが、この濃い～ブドウ色やザクロの色は、正にカフカスのイメージカラー😆💕カフカスはバレエリュスの演目にも登場するので、もっと掘って行きたい。私はまだまだ浅いです😅 #柏木リエさんのカレンダー #ジョージア🇬🇪 #georgianfilm #ashikkerib

This year we get a really special little film from Georgia called Blackbird Blackbird Blackberry, which first played at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival and is now getting out to some of the other film festivals to get more eyes on it. Blackbird is the simple story of a middle aged woman, for the sake of political correctness we’ll refer to her as the film does, plump. She’s a bit of a lone wolf, she has no husband, no children, she’s got no family left that the film mentions, but within the first few minutes the film clues us in that she has become ever more aware of this void in her life. While the film is slower paced, I was never bored and as it entered the third act, things escalated to one of, if not the best finale and concluding shot of any film I’ve seen this year. General audiences might find it a bit harder to connect to this delightful little movie, but cinephiles and critics everywhere should seek out the film with the name so good you get to say it twice, Blackbird Blackbird Blackberry. Still from Salomè Jashi's Taming the Garden, 2021. In 2021 the former prime minister of Georgia opened his private garden to the public. He moved about 200 trees there from around the country. Salomè Jashi has documented some parts of this process in her film. Tree is a symbol of stability -- a symbolic connection between heaven and earth in Georgian mythology. As we are going through various societal changes including digitalization and disconnect with our animalistic side Jashi has underlined this dislocation through her story.
