Whats the best advice I can give someone wanting to commit more time to the gym? Well, Nike said it best. Just do it! We can find excuses all day valid or invalid but It will come down to if you actually want it. - set specific days and times aside if possible 45min - an hour is good - commit to those days and don't give into you mind telling you not to. I cannot tell you how many clients I've had that told me that they did not want to come in to workout but heard me in their mind telling them too 🤣. Hold yourself accountable or have a coach to help you -make small goal (if you're busy 3days a week in the gym is just fine) - have a gym buddy or again coach. (Online or in person coaches are going to be your best bet, as they are consistent whereas a gym buddy can fall off leading you to fall off as well) (DM me for your coaching needs) - appreciate yourself and your small accomplishments. You're growing and progressing at your own pace and no one else's. Value the little wins because they do matter All in all make the goals and strides small but purposeful. The common saying “it’s just a bit of peanut butter” 🥜 And these sneaky calories might just be the reason you are struggling to lose weight! As you know if you are trying to lose weight, your main focus should be staying within a calorie deficit. So tracking your daily food will help you stick to your calorie deficit. Now peanut butter is a great food, with it being high in protein and fat so it delivers us some important nutrients. However, as tasty as it is, it is quite a calorific food as it’s mostly made up of nut fat. Therefore for a small serving you are looking at over 100 calories. In the image shown you can see two different snacks which I’ve seen on my clients tracking apps. I am not saying any of these are bad because in fact they both have a range of beneficial nutrients in them. But one of these is untracked and a very calorie dense choice of snacks and the other has a tracked amount of peanut butter and a lower choice of calorie foods to pair with it. But what I want you to recognise is that by swapping your whole meal bread for an apple you just get more ‘bang for your buck’. This is volume eating, having a whole bowl of apple with a weighed spoonful of peanut butter is going to save you nearly 300 calories! Simple swaps is what makes fat loss easier! I’m heavier ✌️but with shape! 😅 4 years progress!!! Few things I’ve learnt: 1. Loosing weight was my goal, I did! And it was hard! I was strict with my diet and with not drinking alcohol and with counting calories. I was determined! - when you have a goal, commit to it! 2. When I lost the weight I was somehow sad because I was a stick with no shape and felt weak. I started increasing food and enjoying more the process rather than focusing on weight. - Learn to change goals, relax and enjoy the journey- just don’t give up! 3. I weighed myself today because I know I’ve been eating more and I know I’ve gained weight. But I like where this is going and I’m enjoying pushing myself harder and getting stronger. - Trust the process even if you don’t feel comfortable ☺️ 🌟 You can achieve anything if you start now. Stop thinking in short term diets or difficult workouts. Client win 🤩 My amazing client Abi came to me not initially with an athletic goal but a confident goal to get her through those gym doors It had always been a desire to start her gym journey, enjoy exercise and begin to implement healthier habits But here we are nearly 6 months down the line with results! Did this happen over night? NO ❌ Did she grab the nearest fad diet for a quick fix? NO ❌ Did she workout 7 days a week? The Best Movements for Building Muscle ⬇️ When it comes to optimising your training for building muscle, the movements you do in the gym are actually pretty important. There is going to be a large range of individuality here, but here’s some key pointers to consider... Firstly (and most obviously), it goes without saying that you want to pick movements that hit the target muscle. For example, if you’re training the Biceps, usually you’re going to go for some form of ‘curl’. Could we stop there? We could, but not if you want to give yourself the best possible chance of building muscle. Secondly, it seems to be that training a given muscle in it’s most ‘stretched’ position, seems to be superior. As an example, the Bicep is most stretched when the arm is fully straight, and your arm is behind your torso. Such as the one I’m performing in the picture above. From here, we can really start to have a look at what movements could possibly be more effective than others. If you’re struggling to know which movements give you the best stretch, it’s as simple as quick google search, and straight away you’ll have many at your disposal. There are of course other things to consider when picking the right movements, but this is a very good place to start, and we will save those for another post.
