It's a well known fact that a good warm up is more of a contributing factor in injury prevention than static stretching. Incorporating dynamic stretches into your warm up will prime your body for action and performance. Your warm up can be light jogging or even marching on the spot with arm swings and side bends of the trunk in standing. You want to aim to get your blood pumping around the body so it is going to the major muscle groups in the legs, arms and torso. Follow these tips for dynamic stretching: ➡️Arm Circles Loosen up your shoulders and arms with controlled circles forward and backward. ➡️Dynamic Torso Twists Rotate your torso from side-to-side to improve flexibility and warm up your core muscles. ➡️Lunges With a Twist Engage your legs and core with lunges while adding a twist to each side for extra mobility. ➡️Dynamic Leg Swings Swing each leg forward and backward to increase blood flow, improve hip mobility and prevent injuries. 🤦‍♂️EMG🤦‍♂️ With the explosion of many cheap, readily available, and easy to use EMG units these days there has been an explosion in their misuse and misinterpretation of what they can and can not tell us! Before you all get your pants in a bunch I do think EMG has some clinical uses for some people for some biofeedback purposes! However, EMG is often misused by coaches, trainers and physios when they try to use it to assess if a muscle is working well or not An EMG reading is just a muscles electrical output, EMG does not tell you how much force that muscle can or can not produce and it can not determine if a muscle is working harder or easier! You can not say a muscle is weak or strong just because you see it has a higher or lower EMG signal You also can not infer that a higher EMG reading means a muscle will develop more strength or hypertrophy And finally you absolutely can NOT tell if a muscle is inhibited, weak or otherwise dysfunctional just because it has a lower or slower EMG reading EMG is easy to use, but also easier to abuse! Como para casi todo, una dieta no equilibrada o desorganizada, contribuye a aumentar los efectos de distintos síndromes o circunstancias. En este caso, una mala dieta contribuye a un mayor desajuste hormonal sumado al producido por el cambio estacional, lo que empeora todavía más los síntomas de la astenia. Se recomienda realizar una dieta: 👉🏻 Basada en alimentos de origen vegetal. Start your Spring season safely by following our essential safety tips to train effectively and build up that mileage on the road to peak performance 🏃🚴🎾 It's a well known fact that a good warm up is more of a contributing factor in injury prevention than static stretching prior to sporting activity. Warm up properly: a warm up can consist of light jogging or even marching on the spot with arm swings and side bends of the trunk in standing. You want to aim to get your blood pumping around the body so it is going to the major muscle groups in the legs, arms and torso. Add some dynamic stretching into the mix to be session ready! Check for damage and signs of wear. Some authorities advocate changing running shoes between 300-500 miles. Check for damage on any air cushions on the bottom of shoes with air cells. Check cleats for signs of wear and ease with clipping in and out, think about their position and whether or not they force your knees out of a natural alignment. Don't forget to check shin guards when children have growth spurts. Full hydration state can take at least 4 hours to achieve. Drinking water at 8am is going to set you up for a lunchtime gym or swim session. Remember that thirstiness is one of the last signs of dehydration. Gluteal muscles consist of gluteus minimus, gluteus medius and the well-known gluteus maximus. Gluteus minimus is the smallest and deepest of the gluteal muscles. It can be found tightly wrapped around the hip joint. Gluteus medius spans the outer surface of the pelvis, and Gluteus Maximus overlays all gluteal muscles and gives your body shape. Together these muscles help provide hip joint movements and provide shock absorption while walking or running. Glute activation helps improve muscle strength, power and reduces injury risk. Activating the glutes can help improve overall performance in activities and sports such as weightlifting, running and soccer. Weak glutes can lead to low back, hip, and patellofemoral pain. Another public service announcement for all the runners (especially the women)! STRENGTH TRAINING HELPS YOU RUN BETTER! Apologies for yelling, but we can't say this one enough. While there used to be arguments about this (running makes you too bulky, it's not specific to running, your time is better spent running, etc), there is now overwhelming proof that a strength training regimen can help improve running economy and performance. In other words - you get faster because running feels easier. This applies to both men and women, but a recent research review showed the effect specifically for healthy adult women. Add that to the pile of evidence supporting strong runners. It’s not an US vs THEM mentality unless you paint it that way. We prefer finding GOOD people and facilities to collaborate with & refer to instead of compete with. I know what I’m really good at treating, the types of people who work really well with me and what I like treating. I also am aware of the gaps in my treatment knowledge and have people I know who are much more specialized in those areas. That’s what’s best for the clients coming in to see us. And we want them in the best possible place for their unique needs. In the last phase of rehab and recovery physical training becomes much more specific and geared to getting the individual ready to return to full training and competition Two main issues can happen at this stage psychologically. The athlete may be worried or overly anxious that they might reinjure themselves which will hold them back from performing to the best of their ability, likely leave them tense and unwilling to take any risks. Imagery/visualization of prior training and competition or seeing themselves successfully playing in the future can help here. Providing regular feedback to the client about their progress can held reduce their anxiety and you can encourage them to try and start challenging their own anxious thoughts/self talk and replace it with more positive thinking. You may want to communicate with their coach whenever appropriate to ensure they understand the challenges the athlete faces. Lastly relaxation exercises and mindfulness can be employed to calm the athlete's nerves The 2nd challenge that also relates to the above is a loss in confidence in their abilities and being able to perform at the same level as prior to their injury. Challenging and changing these thoughts by reframing their self talk is one way to build up confidence overtime so is using imagery of a successful return to competition. Your way of providing honest yet encouraging feedback and involving the coach on the latter part of rehabilitation can also play a big role in boosting an individuals confidence Some methods might work better than others. Being on the same page as a new patient is a great starting point 🙌 I find asking “what would you like to get out of being here today” more valuable than some of the other questions I’ve asked in the past. Questions like “how can I help you” or “what brings you in today” can typically lead to my new patient simply telling me what is sore or injured. I find that asking about their expectations is more valuable. With only a small window of time in that first session it’s important to set some expectations. With a patient who just wants symptom relief, I can provide some manual therapy, postural or activity advice to address their immediate expectations. Perhaps I don’t spend so much time on other more long term approaches such as exercise in this first session. I’d likely discuss that this will make up the majority of our management plan going forward. With a patient who wants a long term plan, then I can spend my time on that aspect of the treatment plan and ensure they leave with a good understanding of said plan. Other times, patient simply want reassurance. They’re not looking for treatment per se, but more some information on whether they should be concerned or if they need to alter their activity. Either way, asking this simple question helps all parties. "Are corticosteroid injections effective for treating trochanteric bursitis & gluteal tendinopathy? Most studies reveal that cortisone injections result in at least partial pain relief, for at least a short time, in most people.
