A friend recently asked if I ever get tired of sharing my story. My immediate response was “No!” because I feel like God put it on my heart, but upon reflection, sometimes I do. I’ve told it so many times that I sometimes wonder if there is anything new to offer. However, I’ve realized that each writer/producer has a different perspective, and always seem to pull out different parts of my story that haven’t been shared before. Like, in a recent interview conducted with the @american_heart for the “Lower Your Cholesterol” section of their website. This brief article shares a part of my story I’ve wanted people to hear but hadn’t been published yet. The beginning of my heart journey - in finding out that I had high cholesterol - and how simple changes could have helped me avoid (or delay) having a heart attack. Have you ever made fries from carrots? I think you’re either a person who loves carrots or hates them, no in between 😆. As a kid, I LOATHED carrots. The texture was too crunchy for me and I felt like I had to chew on them for what felt like an eternity. As an adult I figured out how to make them in a way that I actually enjoyed eating them! Making fries out of carrots is so way! Just mix them with a few seasonings and some olive oil, then pop them in the oven or air fryer and done! They are delicious!!! And the kids will eat them too! I have helped hundreds of people lower their blood pressure levels and get off their blood pressure medications.⁠ ⁠ And when they come to see them, 9 out of 10 of them are already on a low sodium diet (some go to the extent of looking for 0mg of sodium on a food for them to eat it) and they still have high blood pressure.⁠ ⁠ ⚠️ When you scrutinize sodium to this extent it can actually be harmful because you end up leaving out many cardio protective foods that would benefit your arterial health. This can lead to vascular tension and high blood pressure. ⁠ ⁠ 👉🏼 There are many causes of high blood pressure so depending on the evaluation, my strategy will change. ⁠ ⁠ ⭐️ One of the things I teach many of my clients is to become more aware of their sodium to potassium ratio instead of just sodium alone.⁠ ⁠ Sodium and potassium work in tandem in the body to control blood pressure. Potassium can negate the effects of sodium and also allow for vasodilation to improve blood flow.
