Off the back of #EarthDay a few days ago I've been thinking a little about what we do to encourage our children to love the planet and also some #EcoGoals that have been a little left by the wayside amidst our busy lives. What we do: 🌎 Mostly preloved clothes and toys, 🌎 Lots of walking and public transport, 🌎 Regular time in nature, 🌎 Planting seeds, 🌎 I was given a suri toothbrush for my birthday, 🌎 Reusable items on hand such as flannels and bottles, 🌎 Talking positively about active things you can do to help the earth without creating too much fear, 🌎 Age appropriate books. What we'd like to do: 💚 Find out which is the cheapest eco friendly toilet roll! (Been on the to do list for years), 💚 Get B using reusable nappies more to help with potty training (she used to be full time cloth), 💚 Sort out our balcony, 💚 Try to remember my reusable mugs more often, 💚 Keep singing petitions to keep the big companies accountable. I was feeling quite emotional that week remembering how my parents home in Khartoum, would have looked like on Eid’s morning. Sometimes, the internet can be a beautiful place of connection. If you had told me as a child that one day I would adopt a puppy from Korea that I saw on the internet, I would have probably laughed and said that it was impossible. In 2022, we did just that. Since that time, I have been fortunate enough to stay in contact with the family that cared for her while she was still in Korea. March 2024, we were excited to surprise our kiddos with their first trip to Korea. One of the highlights of our trip? You’re longing to hold them in your arms, your warm embrace, and yet they now can house you in theirs. The noisy house, the complete chaos, the bickering, the overpowering outbursts, the singing, laughing, dancing, transforms into silence. Your to do list of running around each afternoon glued to your steering wheel, is replaced with remedial tasks in and outside of the house to keep you busy. The innocence, the excitement, the dependency, this all transforms, hopefully, into an independent young adult who has had a few experiences under their belt. We wish for time to stand still, to bask in the beautiful moments of the here and now, and yet in contrast we are excited and wish we could peak into the future to see what they become or where they have planted their feet. Life is simply spectacular, even through the heartache, the storms, the moments which seem to break us, if we are blessed, we are given another day. Another day to reconnect, to rebuild, to move forward, or even stand still and enjoy the moment. In reflection, we must appreciate all that surrounds us, the small details that seem to dissipate in the background, we need to show gratitude for the many blessings bestowed upon us, for in the blink of an eye, they can be taken away. Every evening I pray and am thankful for these blessings pictured. We are so grateful for the IG community which educates us, broadens our understanding, and presents us with new ideas/therapies/pathways to explore for our boy Sir Knight. There’s not a day that passes by where I’m not curious, advocating, worrying, supporting, learning about Knight’s journey with Autism! ♾️ We welcomed a beautiful individual into our home to start our journey with S2C. S2C stands for Spelling to Communicate which teaches individuals with motor challenges the purposeful motor skills necessary to point to letters to spell as an alternative means of communication. It’s also so much more! It gives Knight another opportunity to communicate with us all. This isn’t a quick fix. He’s not going to learn this technique in a session or 12! With consistency, and understanding, and hopefully myself becoming a CRP (communication and regulation partner), Knight will grow and develop the motor skills to spell to communicate! It’s such an exciting journey/venture for us to embark on together and I look forward to watching his growth over time. This will pose many challenges for Knight as he will need to develop the necessary motor skills to carry out the functionality of the technique but I have faith in his abilities and strength and he will invite us more and more into his world 🌎 I feel so blessed to be able to learn through Sir Knight and am grateful even more so for the IG community in awakening us more than anyone could imagine !! 🫶🥰💪♾️ Thank you for all you do @kaley_and_3 and @autismdad_memes 🙏🫶 _____________________________________________ . Luna returns! 🌸 The fifth book in this super series is out very soon, publishing 7th March. In this book readers are introduced to more of Luna’s family and the beauty of gardening, in many of its forms. Luna’s local community garden is home to many plants and delights but Luna soon discovers that each plant has their own story. This includes Luna’s paternal grandparents sharing stories about the Callaloos grown in Jamaica. Benefits of having a tall daddy... We took Sausage to the BNZ Lantern Festival on the weekend and it was a hit! We made sure to get there early #parentlife, get to the food straight away then spend some time watching performances and checking out the lanterns. We had heard lots of things about parking issues, long lines at the food stalls and generally too many people but it turned out ok! Not sure if it was because it was the last night, we went early, it was due to rain or all of the above but it was definitely not as bad as we expected. Sausage's favourite was the Lion Dancers and the Zumba ladies 🤣. I personally loved the Lion Dancers and the fighting prawn lanterns! With school starting back this week, I came across this statistic and unfortunately it did not surprise me. What it did do was gave me a semse of anxiety in just 3 short months my maternity leave is coming to an end and im having to go back to teaching and juggling the workload with 2 young kids. I have really enjoyed my maternity leave but the financial strain it has put on my family means I most definately have to return to work. I am so glad that I have found affiliate marketing so I dont have to return to full time work this time around.
