Carl Nilsson Linnaeus, divenuto Carl von Linné, in seguito all'acquisizione di un titolo nobiliare, chiamato Carlo Linneo in italiano (Råshult, 23 maggio 1707 – Uppsala, 10 gennaio 1778) è stato un medico, botanico e naturalista svedese, considerato il padre della moderna classificazione scientifica degli organismi viventi. L'epiteto specifico “veris” deriva dal latino “ver” (genitivo veris) = primavera. Il nome comune “Primula odorosa” indica che i fiori di questa specie sono profumati. La fioritura è unica nel corso dell'anno (sono piante “monocarpiche”, un solo frutto nell'arco della stagione). L'altezza varia dai 15 ai 25 cm. I fiori imbutiformi sono ermafroditi, attinomorfi e tetraciclii. All'interno del fiore (alla base e attorno al pistillo) è presente del nettare. La specie è ampiamente presente in Europa e in Asia. Sul territorio italiano questa specie è abbastanza comune al nord e al centro, ma è assente al sud e nelle isole. Dal punto di vista dell’altitudine queste piante si possono trovare dal piano, fino a 2.300 metri s.l.m., quindi frequentano i seguenti piani vegetazionali: collinare, montano e subalpino. First okra of the season. This is nkruma tenten, which I did not plant this year. I was also too lazy to pull some stumps last year, but since this type is a perennial (evidently, even if there's a freeze), it's showing off that I should consider it a permanent fixture in its bed, as I now do! Merano è stata una bella scoperta, un meta per me insolita se non fosse per il suo Giardino botanico, il @trauttmansdorff_gardens ,senza dubbio tra i più belli visitati, senza dubbio il più bello in Italia. La città di @merano.official ha una cura per il verde pubblico che difficilmente ho trovato altrove, tipica del nord Europa con una attenzione particolare ai suoi alberi veterani, moltissimi censiti e tenuti con una cura mai vista in giro. Le aree verdi pubbliche sono la rappresentazione reale di quello che speriamo sempre succeda e che non riusciamo a vedere nelle nostre città, rispetto totale delle biodiversità con tagli differenziati e sopratutto utilizzo di erbacce graminacee e annuali con maestria denotando senza alcun dubbio la professionalità alta del.servizio giardini del comune. Una gioia come professionista, una gioia per gli occhi come "utente". In Bloom at The Wedge: Verbena For continuous color in beds or containers, few plants rival verbena. This low-maintenance deer-resistant plant needs little supplemental care, yet blooms continuously from spring to fall. Verbena needs full sun (8 to 10 hours a day), and an inch of water a week from rainfall or a hose. They grow best in well-draining soil amended with compost or fresh potting soil, and very much resent overcrowded conditions and soggy soil. Verbena are highly attractive to butterflies and other insect pollinators, so it’s good for the ecosystem too! We’ve got annual varieties as well as perennial verbenas in-store right now. 💚 Blackberry Terrace Bed 💚 I recently finished planting our blackberries complete with trellis. The unique aspect is this bed is on a slope. I created a small terraced pathway on the downside slope to make walking and harvesting easier. As I work on setting up this bed the pathway has already proven convenient and ergonomic for my knees. Some few days after putting the final touches on the trellis it's nice to see this years primocanes already starting to come up! The first 5 photos show the finished project while the last five show how the bed was constructed. I first dug a trench and moved the soil to a berm for the pathway. After transplanting the blackberries into the bed (the crowns were raised with soil) the trench was filled with charcoal, rotting wood, horse manure and topped with goat bedding. This "trench bed" or "pit bed" is a technique that I am using to establish many of our new beds now because it holds much more water (and fertility). It's my first time creating a wire trellis so I got more practice with fence wire terminations! Except for the two wood fence posts, the wire, ratchet tensioners, t-posts, insulators were used / salvaged and repurposed. The columbua star thornless blackberry plants were gifted two is two seasons ago. We grew them sorawling in the corner of a garden as a temporary nursery spot until now. The crowns are much bigger than when we received them and they are ready bust with growth! I look forward to seeing last year's canes fill in more as the season progresses! 💚🤗👍🏼🌱

Das große Salomonsiegel. Eine klassische Waldgartenbewohnerin die erstaunlich viel Trockenheit erträgt. Sie blüht selbst im Vollschatten noch kräftig und breitet sich mit den Jahren über kurze Ausläufer aus. Ich habe heute die Selbstschussanlagen gegen die Salomonsiegel-Blattwespen aufgestellt nachdem ich das erste Exemplar entdeckt habe. These little beauties hardly need to be introduced, but we thought we would talk a little about the violets (Viola odorata) today which we offer in our nursery selection. These plants are one of Maria's absolute favorites and she has been planting them and spreading their seeds around the farm for the last 25 years. Today we have many different variations growing, but only offer 4 of those from our gardens in the nursery and they are 'Alba/White,' 'Freckles,' 'Purple/Sweet,' and 'Rosea/Rosina.' These hardy little perennial plants (Hardiness Zone 5-8) introduced from Asia/Europe/North Africa like to grow in moist, rich soils in part shade. It must be noted that they do not like heavy clay soils or areas with standing water. On the farm, we have found them often popping up on their own accord under our various fruit trees and small fruiting plants to our delight. The plants get 4 to 6 inches tall and clumps can spread up to 3 feet. Both the leaves and flowers are edible. However, the flowers are the primary part used and usually made into violet water which is then incorporated into various drinks and dessert recipes. The flowers can be used fresh or candied as garnishes too. All parts of the plants also have a wide range of medical properties. We recommend you consult the herbalist in your community regarding the uses of violets as medicine. I love to just sit and watch the tulips. When I sit there, I try to focus on the colors seperatly, to see the pattern and to understand the function of the color in this mix. It gives me inspiration and ideas for next designs. I’m not sure if I liked it more last week, when T. ‘Negrita’ and T. ‘Continental’ were the main colors, with T. ‘Purissima’ as a base and where T. ‘Ballerina’ was the final touch. But what I’m sure of is that it’s so nice to have different patterns in every week… So, every week has been different until now (and will be for the whole year). Tulipa ‘Purissima’ is gone now. Brighter colors are at their peak now. Fritillaria serves as a structural plant between the tulips.
