During this time, owners rarely want to stray from their celebrations, leaving unwell horses to worsen. This boy arrived a few days ago at the Egypt Equine Vet clinic, adding to the grim toll of lives lost during this period. Some may see them as fortunate, spared from enduring the harsh upcoming summer in the pyramid area. It’s a plea to exclude animals from mass tourism plans. While we respect the celebrations of Muslim religion, this is a hard time for the team due to the instant effect on the working horses. Despite extensive efforts, the team couldn’t save this poor boy, opting for a merciful end. A post mortem revealed the grim reality: his death was caused by an impaction intertwined with plastic, obstructing his intestine to a fatal extent. Dark patches indicate tissue death due to the halted blood circulation, leading to infection. Had it been neglected, it would have resulted in a slow, agonizing death. It’s heartbreaking, as this tragedy could have been prevented if the horse hadn’t been allowed the horse to forage on garbage. Plastic remains a leading cause of colic deaths, perhaps echoing the broader peril it poses to our world. Joining us as a clinical volunteer on this project provides the team with extra hands on the ground to be able to continue working towards a better life for these horses. Broken tooth extraction 🦷 This big boy came into the Egypt Equine Vet Clinic with a broken tooth that needed removal. The team were quick to help the owner with the extraction getting this beautiful boy back to comfort. Although in good condition, this horse is apart of illegal horse cart racing, a popular ‘sport’ in the area. With the hard impact these horses’ legs endure, along with the grain toxins from improper feed, laminitis is a common issue. The team do their best to get involved in educating owners of proper care, so the horses can have more comfortable lives! This poor little donkey had come into the Egypt Equine Vet Clinic with this terrible wound in his groin area. These types of wounds are usually caused by the hook on the shaft of the cart, which most donkey and horses pull in Egypt. Donkeys are so stoic that he continued to work, until this point, when he was finally brought to the vet. I have just done two very expensive classes . In fact, I can't be trusted to "take it easy" and having done a kickass spin class (hello saddle sore), I was in the building ready for kickass body combat - whoops! . I would have blasted the legs with weights but my timing coincided with all the yoofs coming to the gym to just sit on things. Machines, benches, in the changing rooms. Sig tour training weekly update Cycling Hobart to Adelaide 😍 It’s been the toughest week so far mentally I have not been myself and that scared me…. I felt no happiness at completing the gruelling training camp. No emotion 😱 I can’t explain it So for the first time since July I had a break this week, not for me physically but mentally 😱 My body pulled up great for 600km in 4 days… I had some soreness downstairs which is expected in 40 plus temperatures, rain and 25hrs on the bike 😱 So I did what any girl would do and wore my netball bloomers under my gorgeous work dresses…. With plenty of sudocream so I was completely fine 🥰 On the bike I use pre-max always and apply paw paw every night no matter what….. 🥰 there is no way I want saddle sore to take me out 😱 Back to my mental state… this is tough… there is stress in all aspects of my life…. Not little stress but significant stress and it is what it is. So for the first time I took the pressure off, I slept to 8am a number of mornings 😱😱 usually I’m up at 5am… I wear my heart on my sleeve, it gets me in trouble, the good and the bad. So tomorrow is a new day, no more rest, head down work hard…. Train around all my commitments 🥰 I have done a lot of soul searching, I keep coming back to the following; - I have done and continue to do the work since July - I have been consistent - I can dig deep I owe it to myself to keep going 🥰 this is not about one day on the bike, this is about turning up day after day for 9…. This is the 6th day & the final stage of my ride, 60 miles from Bangsaphan to Chumphon. The mid-day sun is above me & the app on my phone informs me that the temperature on the tarmac is 38 degrees Celsius, Humidity is high & tiredness is starting to make itself felt. Sweat is pouring off my forehead, my back is starting to ache and my backside is moulded to the saddle. But my mind is disciplined and orders my legs to keep peddling. A sports car pulls up next to me. A beautiful Thai girl rolls down the widow and asks, are you okay? I proudly reply, yes of course. She smiles, puts her foot on the accelerator, and disappears. 📍Egypt Equine Vet Project 🇪🇬 Covered in purple spray with means to help by another individual outside of the Egypt Clinic, but not really assisting the severity of the pressure wounds on this horse… This poor horse will be spending a lot of time at the Egypt Equine Vet Clinic. The incredible team on the ground will ensure a strong recovery for this poor soul, and hopefully a future where he will be in kinder hands! The team provide free veterinary care to every animal that comes into the clinic, as well as call-outs at almost any time of day, on any day of the week.
