DOLCETTO ROSÉ + simple but epic pairing 🍷 Which Dolcetto camp are you in? Love it or “it’s ok but I would rather have a Nebbiolo or Barbera if I am in the Langhe.” If you are in the latter (like me - sorry🙊) then try this rosé. 🍇It’s made with Dolcetto grapes which used to be grown all over the Langhe but is now being shoved aside for #nebbiolo - the #barolo and #barbaresco grape. 🍷Dolcetto is generally easy breezy red wine, with a subtle grip: think chewy red cherries. It’s typically the every day wine that many wine families used to drink - and many still do. Like most wines, there are different levels of it - more on that coming soon! For me, it’s a bit of a game-changer making it into rosé. 🎨Look at that colour! This doesn’t mean it’s sweet (ignore the ‘dolce’ in Dolcetto😉) - the colour is an indication of the pigment in the skin and how long these grape skins are left in contact with the juice to colour it. 👄And the taste? Ripe cherries 🍒 but still quite delicate, cranberries and a little bit of Turkish Delight. 🍅 Easiest pairing = cherry tomatoes! These really elevated the wine, making it taste fuller, luscious and a little bit more interesting TBH. The tomatoes were very slightly under ripe on their own but the Dolcetto sorted that out👌 (Ignore the fennel in the pic- that didn’t work as a pairing as it gave a weird aftertaste but the meaty black olives did). Rosé or Rosato is not very common in the Langhe but every one I have tried has been excellent! How could i have forgotten Viognier Day??? It’s my wine passion, the grape that put a fire in my heart. My first swirl, sniff, and sip thrilled me: how could a wine be so aromatic, with heady aromas of honeysuckle, apricot and flowers? I recounted my wine revelation in an entry to Jancis Robinson’s summer wine writing competition in 2018. While I didn’t take top honors, my piece was selected as a finalist and was featured on her site. (Link in bio.) That revelatory first bottle was a Condrieu from @domaineguigal but I’ve enjoyed many others since then. The two Viogniers featured here were also stunning, with the La Borry from @domainesaintamant made from grapes grown near the Dentelles de Montmirail in the Southern Rhône (a huge bargain, IMHO.) I serve it in summer with a homemade cheese and fresh corn soufflé. Pairing perfection! Innerhalb von vier Generationen ist aus einem kleinen Weingarten im venezianischen Valpolicella das Familienunternehmen Tommasi mit zahlreichen Weingütern in besten Lagen Italiens geworden. Die Trauben für den Tommasi Le Fornaci Lugana DOC werden auf Guyot-Eigenbesitz in Desenzano del Garda angebaut, mit hoher Dichte gepflanzt. Eine Parzelle liegt auf kalkhaltigem Boden, der verschiedene Schichten und Tonanteile aufweist, während die anderen beiden aus sandigerem Boden bestehen und reich an Schluff sind. Die Auswahl der Trauben aus dem Tonboden verleiht dem Wein Körper und Struktur, während der sandige Boden für das Aroma und die Eleganz sorgt. Der Tommasi Le Fornaci Lugana DOC ist von intensiver und leuchtend gelber Farbe und verströmt einen fruchtigen und duftenden Geruch mit Noten von tropischen Früchten, Pfirsich und Grapefruit. Der Geschmack ist trocken und harmonisch mit einer eleganten Frische. Zach has made another delicious vintage of our very popular Falanghina, and it’s not a moment too soon as our prior vintage is nearly sold out! We have been very fortunate to acquire several vintages of fruit over the years from local Viani Vineyards, and have sold out every year. Falanghina isn’t widely known—— yet! Although our little Georgetown Divide community and our wonderful RLE customers are way ahead of the curve with regard to this up and coming varietal! Your willingness and enthusiasm to explore something new has been amazing, thank you! Steve and Karen Viani, of Viani Vineyards in Pilot Hill, Ca., were the first commercial growers in CA of this delightful varietal which is original to Southern Italy.
