Haven't posted much lately. To be honest, the new day-job is mind numbing and drains me. Working on unionizing, trying to work with local politicians to improve tenant rights, rescuing stray dogs, and running the Kardashev website probably don't make things easier. 'nuff bitchin'. It was formatted like the weekly or monthly menu of a dinner club where each host tried to outdo the others by serving something more shocking than the last. It’s Monday tomorrow and I’m starting the week off with a tangled mess of a project that I pretended to understand last week. Why didn’t I ask more questions? Well, I was too humiliated by Thursdays brain fog for that. So frightened by the state of my fractured peri-adhd working memory, (thoughts disappearing as soon as they surface) as it was explained to me, I just…deactivated. Any questions that almost made it through the mind-barrier were shoved backwards, internally rejected for being too stupid, too obvious, too revealing about the state of my mind. Instead of pausing and asking for clarification, I just followed standard protocol for dealing with the shitstorm of limited time, unlimited stress and fair expectation : I pulled out my most expensive adhd mask - and hoped for the best. That particular mask is convincing, but what it gives, it takes away. Now I have a whole bunch of files that confuse me, a puzzle of cryptoglyphic notes to decode and a project I seemingly calmly accepted. ‘No problems’. Last week. When every word I heard may as well have been sand through my fingers. This, friends, is how I believe my ADHD may intend to fwm in my 40s. I can only be grateful that I have a diagnosis and an understanding of these symptoms to bring me some kind of reassurance. Outside Inside – The Tubes Released: 1983 Label: Capitol Standout Tracks: "She's a Beauty", "No Not Again", "Glass House", "Tip of My Tongue", "Fantastic Delusion", "Theme Park" Outside Inside is the sixth studio album by the Tubes. It contains the band's biggest hit (and one of their most radio-friendly songs), "She's a Beauty". In fact, the whole release is surprisingly radio-friendly from the same band who recorded "White Punks on Dope". Could this effort therefore be seen as a sellout record? Yes. Did it pay off? Absolutely. Outside Inside is a fantastic release. The band's sound is punchier than ever, aided by several members of Toto. While "She's a Beauty" is the hit, my favorite cut off the album has to be "Tip of My Tongue". One of the writers on the track was Maurice White of Earth, Wind & Fire fame, and that EWF influence really makes itself known. The horn arrangements on the song sound like they're right off of All 'n All. The Tubes themselves are at an all-time high as well. Fee Waybill gives some of the best vocal performances of his career, a personal favorite being "Fantastic Delusion". The LP still has its strange moments, "Wild Women of Wongo" and "Drums" come to mind, but the majority of it is pure pop. Outside Inside is probably the group's most mainstream release, but that does not make it a bad one. The packaging of the album is especially interesting. Early pressings had the text embossed in white on the eye chart. This made the title difficult to read however, and it was changed to red and blue. The sleeve of the album has a hole cutout in the middle to show the iris as that is the label of the record. Not instant camera related, but I'm on a bit of a mission right now to find the band responsible for what seems to be a 1980's 4-track demo EP of post-punk / rock music. Listen: https://thekosmonaut.bandcamp.com/album/do-you-know-this-band I found this 4 track tape in a huge mixed 'job lot' of cassettes that were being given away by Dutch Vinyl in Abbotsford, Victoria, Australia. I cannot find ANY information about it online. I've tried Shazam, I've tried to google lyrics and I've tried to google potential song titles and have come up dry. Here is what I do know to likely be true: - The music sounds fairly well produced and is likely a multi-track recording. The first two tracks suffer a bit of noise due to tape damage, but tracks 3 and 4 sound very clear - The band is likely Australian (or at least from New Zealand) based on the accent of the singer and location the tape was found - The music sounds like it was made in the 1980s, possibly in the early 80's 'post punk' era - There is no obvious vinyl record crackle that I can hear, suggesting to me that it is a dub from a master tape. I do not believe it is a rip of a record, although its not impossible. For the sake of organization, I have titled the songs with names that seem to fit. However, please note that the song names I have chosen may not reflect the actual titles of the songs. If it was my band, this is how I would have titled the songs. I should also note that I do not know which of the sides of the tape was truly Side A and which was Side B, so the track listing may be ordered back to front. I no longer possess the original warped cassette shell, but it was un-remarkable and had no identifying markings, so wouldn't have been much help. I have uploaded the EP to my Bandcamp so that people can listen to the tracks. I have set monetary payments to $0 so that I cannot profit off the artist. If the original artist recognizes the work and wishes to have the album removed, I will take it down.
