This vintage just got a 95 point score from @winespectator which is extremely rare for white wine. They’re part of the Champagne Louis Roederer family of wines. . 🇺🇸 2022 Merry Edwards Sauvignon Blanc / Russian River Valley $50 - Pale straw colored and showing nice viscosity in the glass it wafts aromas of lemon chiffon. 🍷 Chris Ringland North Barossa Shiraz 2017 🌎산지: 호주 (Australia) > 남호주 (South Australia) > 바로사 밸리 (Barossa Valley) 🍇품종: 쉬라즈 (Shiraz) 100% 🦍알코올 도수: 17.5% ⛄️양조 • 4년 이상 숙성 진행 (20% new 오크, 80% seasoned 오크) 🏰 와이너리 소개 뉴질랜드 오클랜드에서 자란 크리스는 10대 부터 학교 친구들의 도움을 받아 이웃의 포도나무를 재배할 정도로 와인에 대한 깊은 애정을 갖고 있었습니다. 이후 호주 로즈워시 농업 대학에서 양조학 학위를 취득하고 뉴질랜드로 돌아와 와인 메이커로 여러 빈티지를 생산하고 난 뒤 캘리포니아를 거쳐 다시 호주로 돌아가게 되었죠 1980년대 후반 Robert O‘Callaghan과 함께 Rockford 와이너리에서 일을 하면서 본인만의 스타일의 와인도 생산하게 됩니다. 본인의 방식으로 생산하는 ’Three river shiraz‘라는 시리즈 와인은 1998년부터 그 유명한 ’Chris Ringland shiraz‘로 이름이 바뀌었고 현재까지 여러 생산자들과 협업하여 우수한 와인들을 생산하고 있어요. 크리스 링랜드는 로버트 파커로부터 호주 최고의 와인메이커라는 호평과 동시에 가장 많은 100점을 획득한 와인 메이커이기도 합니다. North Barossa Shiraz는 3세대 이상 이 땅을 관리한 호프만 가문과 협업하여 생산하는 와인이에요. 📌 테이스팅 노트 🌈: 진한 루비색 👃: 블랙 커런트, 블랙 체리, 검은 자두, 블랙 베리, 후추, 잼 같은 졸인 과일 👅: 당도 Dry, 산도 M+, 타닌 M+, 알코올 H, 바디 Full 후각에서는 전형적으로 블랙 과실향이 지배적이었고, 카시스나 블랙 체리같은 졸인 과일의 잼 같은 뉘앙스가 강하게 났습니다. 약간의 후추도 감지가 되는데 오크 숙성으로 인한 2차향은 개인적으로 잘 느껴지지 않았어요. 타닌은 매우 강한편은 아니었고, 알코올은 호주 쉬라즈라 어느정도 높을거라 예상은 했지만 17.5도까지는 전혀 생각을 못했었어요. 그만큼 높은 알코올임에도 불구하고 깔끔하고 부드럽게 들어가는 와인이었습니다. 이때는 라구 파스타와 같이 먹었었는데 좋은 페어링 덕분에 강한 알코올이 더 중화가 잘 된 점도 있는 것 같아요. 마시고 나서는 17.5도의 영향인지라 술 기운이 확 올라오긴 하더군요....(역시 알쓰는 인간 알코올 측정기.. 훗)
🍷 LONGSHADOW RANCH WINERY . Located on Calle Contento in the Temecula Valley amongst several other wineries is Longshadow Ranch Winery. Their large estate includes vineyards, an outdoor auditorium, several winery structures, as well as horses & and goat petting area. The tasting room is a dramatic & beautifully done barn-type structure with outside seating located through the large doors. Tastings include six wine choices served at the bar for $20. On our visit they had a brut rosé and several red wines on the flight, including a Syrah, a Sangiovese, a Tempranillo, and others. “We usually associate Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough with gooseberry, capsicum, and other green aromas. We tend to consider that we should enjoy while it is young. On the other hand, Folium Sauvignon Blanc wines have less herbaceous notes, high & clean acidities, and layers of fruits and minerals compared to other Sauvignon Blanc from the region. Such complex components allow the wines to age well even over 10 years. Folium Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2013, its color became yellowish but still keep the freshness of fruits. The green notes of wine turned to dried vegetables such as dried tomato. It developed hints of umami from seaweeds too. LORENZI WINERY🍷 Located on the eastern side of Temecula Valley wine country on Monte de Oro Road is family-owned Lorenzi Estate. The outdoor garden area is inviting and beautifully landscaped, with lots of distinct areas that give it a rather cozy yet fun feel. Our group of three enjoyed chatting on their porch overlooking the estate vineyard as we sampled through the wine flight expertly showed by our cheery server. . A great spot for reds, there are no white or rosé wine tasting options though I did see they do sell a nice Chardonnay. All of Lorenzi’s red wines are aged for around 24 months in 100% new French oak and cellared for another 2 years before release (grand reserve style). What a joy this was! If you haven’t tried a Vin Jaune before, it has all the salty, briny seashore, green apple skin, Sicilian olives and green almond of fino Sherry but with the richer fruit of a white wine - this delight has just-ripe apricot, preserved lemons and the sun-warmed scent of fresh hay. There’s a sultry, silky richness on the palate, with the contrast of coastal breeze and floral honey balanced by a steely, mineral, acidity. Complete happiness. Fall is in the air and we in the US are all looking forward to Thanksgiving next week. Tonight the cool yet mild November evening air inspired me to pour a glass of this two-vineyard Pinot from Gary Farrell. The Rochioli & Allen Vineyards are located on the Westside Road/Middle Reach. These vineyards located in the center of gravity of the Russian River Valley, and directly adjacent, are dominated with plantings of the great French Pommard clone. The blue label I love - and I’m loving my wife’s mini succulent pumpkins too! . 🇺🇸 2017 Gary Farrell Rochioli-Allen Vineyard Pinot Noir / Russian River Valley $75 - Showing a pale ruby with glints of garnet, the nose gives up aromas of strawberries, cranberries, mandarine peel & roasted meat. The palate excites with juicy acidic tension manifesting as flavors of raspberry, rhubarb, smoke, cola & oak spice, unfurling with trailing notes of roasted meat, salted mineral, mushroom & white pepper. The grape juice is taken to a stainless steel tank for decantation for 36 hours and then transferred to French oak barrels (10% new and 90% one, two and three years of use). alcoholic fermentation that lasts approximately three weeks. Once the fermentation is finished, by tasting each of the barrels it is determined to induce Malolactic fermentation in 6% of the volume of the wine. For 9 months the wine remains on its lees in these same barrels without any racking. Natural clarification and closed filtration prior to bottling. 내 점수 : 90 pts 평균가 : $32 재구매의사 : 2/10 [Story & Tasting] "두번째 시음! 처음보다는 관대해졌다" Vina Aquintania는 1990년 Bruno Prats과 Paul Pontallier에 의해 칠레 Maipo Valley & Malleco Valley에 설립된 와이너리이다. 시작은 Cabernet Sauvignon으로 하였지만 지금은 chardonnay, pinot noir, sauvignon blanc까지 저변을 넓혀 와인을 만들고 있다. Malleco Valley는 고품질의 레드와인 품종들을 생산하는 Aconcagua region이나 Central Valley region과는 거리가 멀고 극지방과 가까워 훨씬 서늘한 기후를 보인다. 안데스 산맥의 영향으로 일교차까지 커서 신선한 산미를 유지하기에 유리한 조건을 갖춘 곳이다. 다만 화산토 지역으로 배수가 좋으나 연간 강수량이 적어 관개는 필수이다. 세밀한 관개만 이뤄진다면 적은 수분으로 농축된 풍미의 포도를 수확할 수 있는 지역이다 이 와인은 포도송이째로 프레싱되어 스테인레스 탱크에서 36시간동안 침전시킨 뒤 프랜치 오크 배럴 (10% new)에서 9개월간 효모찌꺼기 위에 racking없이 숙성된 와인이다. MLC는 6%만 진행되었고 병입전 정제와 필터를 거친 와인이다. 와인의 색은 중간의 노란색을 보인다. 스월링을 해보면 약간의 점성이 느껴지며 부드러운 질감이 예견된다. 향은 레몬, 황도, 멜론, 헤이즐넛, 토스트, 약간의 돌부스러기등이 다채롭고 긍정적이게 느껴진다. 입에서는 오크의 달콤 고소한 풍미와 미네랄느낌이 강조되면서 약간은 짭짤한 인상을 준다. 질감은 오일리하면서도 약간의 알콜열감이 느껴진다. 반면 산도는 상대적으로 낮아 밸런스 측면에서 상당히 아쉬운 모습을 보인다. 이전에 같은 빈티지의 바틀을 마셨을때는 알콜이 튀고 오크가 따로 놀며 산도가 거의 없다며 혹평을 날렸는데 굳이 그정도로 혹평할건가 싶긴 하다. Coravin으로 10일에 걸쳐서 한두잔씩 마셔봤고 와인만 따로 즐기기에 산도측면이 아쉽지만 너무 기름지지 않은 음식과 같이 즐긴다면 향이나 풍미가 충분히 좋기때문에 나쁘지 않다. 그리고 3만원초반에 구매했으니 뭘 더 바랄까...?? 그래도 국경 너머 해발 700m쯤 올라가면 Mendoza의 저렴하고 맛있는 Chardonnay가 있기에 다시 구매할 것 같지는 않다.... Caymus Vinyards는 1984년과 1990년 최초로 Wine Spectator's Top 100 list에 1등을 두번 하면서 세계의 주목을 받는다. 1940년대부터 Wagner가문은 Rutherford에 포도를 재배해왔으나 전부 Napa의 와인메이커들에게 팔았다. 그러나 19세의 Chuck Wagner가 그의 부모를 도와 와이너리를 출범하면서 1972년 첫 빈티지가 출품되었다. 이후 1975년 부터는 최고의 포도밭만 선별하여 Special Selection을 출시하고 있다. 과거에는 일부 new french oak를 이용하여 4년까지 숙성시키는 방법을 사용하였으나 현재는 90%의 new oak로 18개월간 숙성시키는 짧고 굵은 방법을 선택하고 있다. Caymus vinyards는 연간 20만 case의 엄청난 생산량을 보이는 나파밸리의 초대형 와인메이커로 자리잡았으며, Wagner Family는 Meiomi, Belle Glos, Conundrum, Mer Soleil의 다양한 sub-brand를 출시하며 시장을 장악하고 있다. 물론 Chuck Wagner의 사망 이후 Caymus의 와인들은 Crowd-pleasure라는 호평아닌 호평을 받고 있으나 special selection만큼은 wine-geek들에게도 호평이 자자한 와인이다. 이 와인은 짙은 가넷색을 보이는 와인으로 꽤나 탁도가 높다. 향에서는 숙성향이 지배적으로 부엽토, 담배, 말린 버섯의 쿰쿰한 향이 강렬하게 다가오고 그 뒤로 건자두와 건포도등의 희미한 과일 뉘앙스가 바짝 마른 느낌으로 다가온다. 오크풍미도 과하진 않지만 넉넉하게 있어 마치 건포도가 박힌 초콜릿을 먹는 듯 하다. 입에서는 산도가 생각보다 좋아서 전반적으로 음습한 분위기를 전환시키며, 탄닌은 나파벨리의 와인답게 아주 부드럽고 벨벳같은 질감을 선사한다. 튀지 않으면서도 넉넉한 알콜감이 묵직한 무게를 만들어주고 이는 엄청나게 긴 피니쉬로 이어진다. 개인적으로 Caymus에 대한 비판적 시각들에 많이 노출되어 큰 기대는 없었던 와인이다. 그러나 Chuck Wagner가 살아있던 시절 만들었던 와인으로 알코올 농도 15%는 쉽게 넘어버리는 최근의 Caymus Special Selection과 다르게 13.9%로 왠지모를 기대가 되기도 하였다. 예상외로 입에서 산도가 꽤나 신선하게 받쳐주며 덩치가 지나치게 크지도 않고 풍미 농축도는 상당했다. 최근 마시고 실망했던 '못만든' (Opus One은 경험해본 보르도 블랜드 와인 중 가장 멋진 와인 Top3에 꼽을만 하다) Napa Cab들과는 전혀 다른 모습이였다. Patrick Farrel MW가 Caymus를 테이스팅하며 혹평하면서도 Special selection은 다르다고 말한 내용이 생각난다. 이번 와인처럼 시음적기가 지난 와인이 아닌 10년정도 익은 절정에 있는 와인도 궁금해진다. No dosage for this Champagne Blanc de Noirs of great structure and finesse. 내 점수 : 94 pts 평균가 : $99 재구매의사 : 7/10 [Story & Tasting] "Anselme Selosse를 따라가는 F&R 형제" Miniere가문의 Frederic과 Rodolphe 형제 (F&R 형제)는 이 포도밭을 일군 가문의 4대손이다. 1919년 이 와이너리가 설립되었으나 그들의 증조할아버지는 직접 와인을 만들지 않고 네고시앙에 포도를 다 팔았다. 90년대 후반 Frederic Miniere는 2년동안 Anselme Seloss와 일하게 되는데, 당시 배럴숙성한 샴페인과 유기농법의 정수를 경험하고 가문의 이름을 건 와인을 병입하고자 마음먹는다. 2007년 그의 아버지가 은퇴하면서 F&R 형제는 가문의 이름을 내 건 와인을 만들기 시작한다. 소유한 8헥타르의 포도밭 중 나무 수령이 높고 가장 높은 퀄리티의 포도를 만드는 2헥타르의 포도밭에서만 와인을 생산한다. 오크 배럴을 사용하며 와인의 다양한 특성과 블랜딩의 복합성을 표현하기 위해 주로 뉴 오크와 5년 이상된 오크를 섞어서 사용한다. 와인의 신선함을 위해 젖산발효는 진행하지 않는 것이 특징이다. Frederic은 젖산 발효를 하지 않기 때문에 와인이 조화를 이루기 위해서는 긴 셀러 숙성이 필요하다고 생각한다. 따라서 병입 후 최소 5년~6년, 빈티지 와인의 경우에는 8~10년 숙성하고 있다. 와인은 황금빛을 띄는 색으로 기포의 힘이 여전히 강력했다. 코에서는 멍든 사과, 복숭아, 오렌지 제스트, 약간의 블로썸, 약간의 바닐라, 마지팬, 크램드마롱, 꿀의 녹진하면서도 복합적인 풍미가 강렬하게 발산되었다. 달콤 쌉쌀한 산화적 풍미가 만연한 가운데서도 과일향은 분명하게 표현되고 있어 향에서 싱그러움과 녹진함의 밸런스가 좋았다. 입에서는 훌륭한 산도 덕분에 와인 전체에 생기가 돌고 과일풍미가 더 살아나고 강렬한 첫인상 만큼이나 다양한 풍미들이 길게 이어진다. 마치 아몬드 가루와, 밤 크림을 얹고, 싱그러운 과일필링을 넣은 페이스트리 디저트 한입을 먹는 듯 기분이 좋아지는 와인이다. 아주 훌륭한 샴페인이고 가격만 좋다면 언제든 다시 경험해보고 싶다. 국내 샵 가격이 잘 나오면 13만원 정도로 구매할 수 있다고 한다. 요즘 내 취향은 Blanc de Blancs으로 기울고 있지만, 기호를 넘어서 이 와인은 가격에 비해 밸런스가 훌륭하고 풍미의 강도 피니쉬도 다 갖춘 와인이라고 생각된다. '유명한 누구에게 배운', '유명한 사람의 사촌인' 이라는 미사여구등에 대한 강한 불신을 갖고 있지만, Jacques Selosse에 대한 존경과 그의 스타일을 따라가려는 Fredric과 Rodolphe 형제의 작품을 경험해본다고 한다면 좋은 선택지가 될 것이다. Heavy wine but does not lose its delicacy! The color is a deep ruby wine. At the nose, cooked black plum and black cherry and a little pepper flavor is rich, and the well balanced but generous oak of sweet licorice and chocolate is added. As time goes by, the tertiary note like tobacco leaves is prevalent, but the wine has a good power so that it balance really well with rich fruit. It gives a velvety texture at the palate, but it has good acidity and freshness. It is thought to be located somewhere between Northern Rhone Syrah and Australian Shiraz, and it has a really great value and charm. Once I know how to get it, I want to buy one or two more bottles.
