[9am, Bristol] 🌸🥱 I am recovered. — After a 24 hour writing sprint on the weekend with @londonwriterssalon ✍🏻 . . . ⌛️ I managed 21 of the 24 hours, as I took 2 hours to sleep and then 1 hour to nap later. Tbh it wasn’t as hard as I anticipated. Probably because it was writing, which doesn’t feel like a chore (if it had been a 24hour coding sprint, I would have cried). And I had prepped with a ton of snacks and doing little bits of writing leading up to the the sprint on Friday, so I wasn’t trying to figure out where I was or what parts I needed to focus on. Also, I struggle with my sleep on a good day so not sleeping much over Fri/Sat didn’t massively affect me. 😅 . . . 📒 I got a lot done. A LOT. Which keeps me on track to finish by the end of May… I wanted to see how many words I’d written during the sprint but I moved some stuff around in Scrivener and realised too late it had been tracking the wrong draft. We're on Day 13 of #campnanowrimo, where I'm writing the second draft of my @nanowrimo 2023 novel Society! It really is hard to write on the weekends, to get in the writing mood. I wrote some words down. My pace kind of slowed down because I was trying to figure out how the scene would go. But, I got words down on the page, which is the important thing. I'm at the beginning of writing the big event, so we'll see how it goes. I'm having another writing sprint this evening with one of my writer friends, so tomorrow's update will be a Day 13.5 and Day 14. I don't think I've ever tried writing Society in the 9, 10pm range, so it should be interesting. I honestly haven’t been in a good headspace as of late, but as I continue to strive for personal improvement, I decided to push myself with a sprint this afternoon even though my thoughts were clogged and I really wasn’t feeling it, and I would have preferred to return to bed-rotting. Turns out, as I continued the physical act of writing, the inner noise momentarily dissipated, and a new chapter was revealed. This shows me that I’m capable of creative expression even when I feel certain that I’m not. Now, whether this is a good and useable chapter…that’s another story. The point is, I wrote and made progress on something I love and I didn’t allow the inner turmoil to stop me.
