On Friday I went up to McAfee Knob for the first time since the parking lot has been closed for bridge construction. I went up via the Catawba Greenway, located at the Catawba Sustainability Center. It adds a few extra miles to the hike: 10(ish) miles from the Catawba Greenway vs the 8(ish) miles from the McAfee parking lot. For any AllTrails app user, they have the hike listed under “McAfee Knob via Catawba Sustainability Center.” Though when it comes to numbers I tend to rely on my Apple Watch because I think AllTrails’ numbers are a bit exaggerated (look at how many calories I burned! lol yeah right 😏). However my watch died on me when I got to the top (she’s an old girl; time for an upgrade 🫡). Before doing so, it had the hike at 4.82 miles, so double would be 9.64, just under 10 miles. Anyway, I hope that helps anyone still wanting to hike the Knob while the lot is closed. We had our first snowfall this past Sunday - CRAZY! @marie.k.pee and I decided to go have lunch at one of my favorite lakes... I was dumbfounded when I saw that the lake was more of an emerald green opposed to the milky cyan blue color that I once witnessed before. Still beautiful, nonetheless. Especially with the distant pointy granite spires of Temple Crag covered with snow. 😍 Seasonally, lakes can change in color... things like temperature, sun, snow, different nutrients, and other factors can all impact the color of a lake. This hike had to have its own post because chileeee when I tell y’all we hiked 10 milessss (the trail in red on the map) 😳🫢 This star of the show was not on my bucket list but I surely added it & crossed it off the same day haha Never have I hiked this far and long. Me and my boo were hiking in the forest for hours y’all. It all started with the urge to go spend time in nature. Feeling confident and extremely driven Rob and Tiffany set out for a 10 mile hike through a National Forest on the Richardson Creek Trail. Please know that neither one of us questioned each other or even second guessed doing this hike. We were all in lol In the backpack 🎒 we had water, Gatorade, protein bars & a jar of peaches to get us through. Also, picked up a stick along the forest ground to keep clear of any spider webs. 🕸️ We followed the red arrows through the forest along our trail. After each milestone along the trail you reach the next letter. Babayyy when we set out for letter “E” that 4 miles to the next letter & then 3.9 miles until the next was no joke.
