Sin entrar a discutir si este cambio fue para mejor o peor, lo único cierto e innegable es que la película es un regalo visual y narrativo como pocos títulos. Con Chris Columbus (‘Solo en casa’ o ‘Harry Potter y la piedra filosofal’) al frente del guion y la producción de la película, aunque también guiando toda la dirección de Barry Levinson, haciendo que su estilo quede muy latente en toda ella, la película es un disfrute inmenso que no nos cansamos de ver. Una digna sucesora del cine juvenil o adolescente de John Hughes. Aún así, por encima de todas las cosas, es un título que nos demuestra cómo hacer cine y que funciona muy bien por sí mismo. Ilustrando la juventud del detective de Conan Doyle y su inseparable John Watson como pocas veces hemos visto en la pequeña o la gran pantalla. Young Sherlock Holmes (Barry Levinson, 1985) Very much a quintessential slice of Spielberg 80s entertainment, made when the director and his company Amblin were at the heights of their commercial prowess. His name may not be on the director’s chair (that duty going to Barry Levinson if Rain Man and Good Morning Vietnam fame) but this peppy and lighthearted Sherlock Holmes prequel has Steven’s fingerprints all over it, having more in common with Indiana Jones than Conan Doyle’s consulting detective, not to mention foreshadowing screenwriter Chris Columbus’ work on Harry Potter. Not that that’s a bad thing mind you, because terrific 80s VFX is along for the ride courtesy of some immaculate practical craft from Industrial Light and Magic, who pepper this to bits with oodles of pulpy dark fantasy imagination, including the first ever fully CG film character. I can’t say it makes for a convincing Holmes origin story, but it does admit that upfront, and makes for a fine throwback to the days in which our disposable Young Adult entertainment was this well produced and zany. I’m watching an old favourite. I still remember watching this with my brother and we were amazed by the special effects - especially the stained glass window knight coming to life. It was the first theatrical release to feature a fully CGI character and it was an early credit for Industrial Light and Magic. Starring Nicholas Rowe (who I only saw again when he popped up in “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” many years later, but has been in many things since then) as a young Sherlock Holmes with Alan Cox (son of Brian Cox) as new boy at school, John Watson and Sophie Ward as Elizabeth, a girl who lives at school with her uncle. Also a host of familiar British faces Anthony Higgins (“Raiders of the Lost Ark”) as Professor Raithe, Freddie Jones as Cragwitch, Nigel Stock (“The Great Escape” and also played Watson to Peter Cushing’s Holmes in the 1960s) as Waxflater and Michael Hordern as the older Watson, narrating the story. When a variety of people all have delusions which lead to their death, young Sherlock decides to investigate. I really enjoyed this story for a lot of reasons. It feels like the start of something new and interesting, following on from the end of Ravenous, but with a fresh slate. The Doctor is stranded on Earth (a concept I always like to see) and has to come to terms with the humdrum of everyday life. Instead of a series just about the Doctor and one or two (or maybe at most three) companions, here you've got a setup with a whole ensemble of characters as the Doctor's neighbours, alongside established companions, Liv and Helen (who are fantastic). Notably, the story also introduces Tania, who's one of the first major trans women in the Doctor Who universe (possibly THE first). She doesn't do a huge amount in this story, but I like her and it's a decent introduction. Meanwhile, you've got The Curator checking in on Liv and Helen (who comically compared his "enigmatic figure from the future" routine to River Song) because he's concerned time is off track. Also, The Curator refers to Sherlock Holmes as an old friend and I love that. What a great series finale! I loved how it felt like an “everything has led to this” story but also not, with the villains not really knowing much more about what’s going on than the heroes. I loved that it had the same low key investigation feel as the rest of the series, only with a resolution that had larger ramifications for the ongoing story. And I loved that it was character, rather than psychic powers or magic, that brought everything to a close in the end. Yup. Creepy AF. Omega Factor predates X-Files by at least 10 years but I think it incorporates a lot of the elements that made the later show successful: likable, complex characters well-played by great actors, and genuinely creepy stories. Wicklow is a small town, located 31 miles south of Dublin in Ireland and is famous for producing exceptional boxers. These boxers bring glory and honor to the country by representing Ireland in various boxing events. In October 2022, Tadhg O’Donnell, proved his mettle as the 15-year-old won the gold medal in boxing at the European Junior Championships in Italy in October 2022. The talented boy, Tadhg, missed out on a lot of fun events and parties as he focused solely on his training and fights. But it felt worth it in the end when he won the event. O Enigma da Pirâmide (Young Sherlock Holmes/Pyramid of Fear, 1985), é um dos menos lembrados filmes produzidos por Steven Spielberg na década de 80. Chris Colombus buscou inspiração na obra de Arthur Conan Doyle para criar uma versão totalmente original da origem da amizade entre Sherlock Holmes (Nicholas Rowe) e Dr. Watson (Alan Cox), ambos jovens estudantes em um colégio interno londrino. O roteiro é cuidadoso em alternar os assassinatos bizarros que acontecem numa Londres da Era Vitoriana e a vida de Holmes no colégio até unir as duas tramas. Detalhar mais seria estragar o prazer que esse filme proporciona. As situações e os personagens são envolventes, a direção do Barry Levinson é bastante eficiente e o toque de Spielberg é evidente, principalmente quando Sherlock Holmes assume algo (ou muito?) de Indiana Jones no terço final. Pretendia ser o início de uma série, mas a bilheteria não ajudou. Talvez por falhar em agradar ao público jovem, que, provavelmente, desconhecia o personagem, e, ao mesmo tempo, desagradar aos fãs da obra de Conan Doyle pelas liberdades tomadas. Mas esse fracasso foi injusto. É um filme divertido, empolgante e até emocionante, com um belo trabalho em design de produção do Norman Reynolds e uma poderosa trilha musical do Bruce Broughton. E ainda traz uma sequência durante os créditos finais até culminar em uma última e impactante informação. El secreto de la pirámide Dirección: Barry Levinson Año: 1985 (CRÍTICA CON SPOILERS) Qué cinta más maravillosa. Es una de las películas de los años 80 más entretenidas que he visto y mantiene el tipo casi 40 años después de su estreno. Los personajes principales, Sherlock, Watson y Elizabeth, son súper carismáticos los tres y hacen un equipo perfecto para resolver cualquier misterio. El mejor es Nicholas Rowe interpretando magníficamente a Sherlock Holmes, cualquiera quisiera tener su astucia e inteligencia. El villano también es sensacional, el misterio es interesante y es en sí, una grandiosa película que creo merece más reconocimiento.
