Friday night's Campfire Cacao Ceremony and Sound Bath was such a beautiful way to start the weekend, I'm still on cloud nine. Saturday was a **rainy snuggle under the covers day by the woodstove with a good book kind of day**. Yesterday was chilly but beautiful in Coventry. I walked the yard and gathered medicinal herbs for Spring Fairy Vinegar. This is a recipe from the Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine. I am taking the two year Herbal Immersion Class and wowza it is packed with such incredible information. I gathered violets, dandelions, dead nettle and a little mustard garlic, washed and chopped then sealed in a jar with some apple cider vinegar. In 4- 6 weeks we will be able to enjoy this conconction that helps support liver, kidney and digestive functions. I’m embarrassed to even admit this, but I did not realize that clover is edible…. stems, leaves, and flowers. Well, guess who grew an enormous row of crimson clover? Steve planted this as a winter cover crop in the community garden to keep weeds away and to work back into the soil in late spring to add nutrients to the garden soil. Our yard is waking up and it's a pollinator's buffet in comparison to the weed-free lawns around us (sorry neighbors). Today we thought to try dandelion tea for the first time. Picked a huge bowl full of flowers in no time (first picture). Then sat on the couch to pick out the petals from the green bits (they are too bitter for us). So I didn't keep track of the time but something like 2hrs later the jar was full of 99% petals and just some green bits, my fingers and nails were yellow and sticky, and we were ready for tea. To the jar I added fresh mojito mint and peppermint leaves (these grow like weeds too), filled with boiling water and allowed to steep about 10minutes. We also learned that at 10min the glass jar was still too hot to hold, so we used a tea towel to help. I suggest your container have handles. We sweetened with honey and raw sugar. This is exactly why I started this page. The majority of people would see a broken wheelbarrow with rotten handles. I saw a planter with holes already drilled into. It took 20mins to take off the handles and now I have a HUGE container to put plants in. The key is thinking outside the box and being humble enough to stop on the side of the road and grab it from someone's trash pile. Growing food doesn't have to be expensive.
