Ils sont en partie extraits des poèmes de Jacques Prévert, grand ami du réalisateur Paul Grimault, et co-auteur du film. 🐈⬛L’association entre les textes surréalistes du poète et l’esthétique picturale et grandiose des dessins créent cette alchimie qui donne au film tout son charme. Prévert a d’ailleurs écrit un poème intitulé Le chat et l'oiseau, dont l’illustration rappelle l’intrigue du film : un puissant qui chasse un oiseau. 🎨Le style de dessin du réalisateur Paul Grimault, est plutôt clair, dans une esthétique du plan long et fixe. Le film misant sur la poésie du texte plus que sur les chansons. On s’éloigne de l’empreinte formelle de Disney, qui avait coproduit le film La bergère et le ramoneur, dessin-animé sorti en 1953, qui sert de squelette au Roi et l’oiseau (Voir Post précédent). 🥊L’ambition a toujours été de proposer une contre-proposition aux films du studio américain, qui étaient hégémoniques depuis les années 30. Au départ du projet en 45, faire un long-métrage d’animation français était une première. 🦜En 1980 Le Roi et l’oiseau sort en salles, il naît des restes du projet chaotique La bergère et le ramoneur. A l’origine une adaptation d’un conte d’Andersen qui a vu le jour en 1953, et dont les auteurs Paul Grimault et Jacques Prévert (le poète oui) ont été destitués. 🌡️En effet, à la sortie de la seconde guerre mondiale, les producteurs du film se rendent bien compte en cours de route que le projet est trop ambitieux. La petite équipe du réalisateur Paul Grimault ne suffit pas pour finaliser les 130 000 dessins qui composent le long-métrage d’animation, une première en France. 🐭Les producteurs vont donc chercher de l’aide financière auprès des studios Disney pour compléter les dernières séquences, ils acceptent non sans demander des contreparties. 🧨Des coupes et des ajouts sont évidemment demandés, le style de Grimault ne se mariant pas avec les standards de chez Disney, qui trouvent le film trop sombre et différent. Cela ne plaît pas beaucoup aux auteurs originaux qui quittent le projet. Cette version du film sort donc en salles en 1953, et c’est trois en plus tard que Prévert et Grimault en seront reconnus comme co-auteurs. 🥁En 1966, Paul Grimault récupère les images du film lors d’une offre aux enchères, cependant une grande partie de ses travaux initiaux sont perdus. Des cendres de La bergère et le ramoneur, dont Paul Grimault gardera une partie de l’intrigue et des personnages, naît le Roi et L’oiseau. I think it is interesting that they show no men in this movie beaides the baby at the end, making the point that this movie is about the experience of women. I dont think many movies capture the women experience. Most of the time, it is through the eyes of men. I think it is interesting that they show a friend group that have different ways of life. They have the workaholic, the slut, the mother, and the lesibian. The only problem is the movie deals with women who are wealthy, which can leave the audience with feeling the characters are out of touch with the real experience of being a woman. We go on a journey with Mary(Meg Ryan) from being in denial, to facing her husband's mistress, to separating from her husband, and then finding herself again. This movie is about discovering yourself after a loss. It is about cultivating female friendship. I honestly don't know any adult that has a female friend group like in this movie. It is honestly pretty rare to find in real life. A lot of media makes it seem like it is normal to have friend groups like the TV show Friends and Sex and the City. Besides some of the unrealistic expectations this movie sets for real life, this movie is pretty good. The acting can be dramatic and corny at times but the movie overall is good. I would rewatch it again. I would recommend this movie to those who like movies about female friendship.

My rating : 9/10 🇺🇸 With its high tense atmosphere and its context which problematics are terrifyingly realistic, my Civil War watching was the equivalent of a punch in the face. This is the reason why I’m going to the movies, to live unique and unforgettable experiences like this one. Civil War is such an anxiety-inducing film. It will definitely take you through every state of mind and emotion, for the entire 109mins. From the beginning to the end, everything is just perfectly well paced and thought to make you stay on the edge of your seat. Especially during the last half-hour which are the most stressful 30mins I’ve seen recently. Both visually and sonically, Civil War is a never-stopping spectacle. A little bit like Mann’s Heat, every time a gunshot was heard, it was literally as if the whole theater jumped with fright and surprise thanks to the breathtaking work done on sound effect. And I’m not even talking about the magnificent photography here. Every shot is meticulously crafted down to the last millimeter, and some of them are even full of poignant symbolisms. One of the most frequent criticism about it is its lack of deeper political context and information about the conflict (except for this very short introduction). And I can definitely agree with this, even if this film is firstly based on war photographs, I think we could have get something even more explained and deep. Especially with USA’s recent actuality. In the end, I’m beyond happy to see how strong Alex Garland is coming back, and to see these kind of productions getting the appreciation they need. One of 2024’s best films for me now!
