. I've been trying to remember those distant childhood moments: the pain of growing bones and stretching ligaments. But in the place of memory there's numbness empty space a hollow emptiness is in its place. And I think that growing pains can't have been that bad in comparison to other pains I've had. My memory's been blinded by the searing white-hot pain of joints in inflammation and a cortisol-washed brain. Regardless of the moments lost I feel that I still know the cost that comes with sudden and dramatic growth... As I get to know myself and I choose the path of health I must make harder decisions and say no. No, I shouldn't go there No, I can't do that No, I cannot stay in this condition. Movement may be scary but change is necessary and though it's painful I have to transition. I'm growing out of who I was and letting go of ones I love who haven't loved me well and I swear, it hurts like hell but it's healthy I'm expanding this is growth. ... I found the day 2 prompt, "growing pains", was quite difficult for me to write to, because I genuinely can't remember what they felt like... And trying to go anywhere with it just felt like a huge mental block. King Puru was distraught. After a fleeting encounter with the celestial nymph Urvaśī, the pair had fallen madly in love, but for days his inamorata had been incognito. As he walked the paths of his garden, deep in lament, unbeknownst to him his lover watches from above, concealed in the branches of a tree. Although burning with love, Urvaśī finds her courage falter, and she decides to send the King a message, rather than reveal herself…. Inscribing a strip of birch bark with her love, she drops it in the path of her bewildered beloved - so begins their epic romance. In his Kumārasambhavam, Kālīdāsa writes: न्यस्ताक्षरा धातुरसेन यत्र भूर्जत्वचः कुञ्जरबिन्दुशोणाः। व्रजन्ति विद्याधरसुन्दरीणामनङ्गलेखक्रिययोपयोगम्॥ “On Himalaya, the birch bark serves for the love letters of the Vidyadhāra beauties, words written with liquid ore, red like the spots on an old elephant’s hide.” This motif of birch bark, or Bhurja, or Bhojpatra, being used as a scroll is repeating - and indeed - it seems created for the purpose - peeling off in strips like reams of parchment. But look closer, and the strips of birch seem already inscribed - with the same reddish flecks “like the spots on an old elephant’s hide” which Kālīdāsa describes… what if these are the messages of the celestials, written into the very fabric of nature in some indecipherable botanical morse code? This holiday season I was away from home for a whole month. It was beautiful and challenging and wonderful and difficult and refreshing and exhausting. I developed new friendships and strengthened old ones. I ran from myself and then rediscovered my center. I didn't write and process nearly enough, but I lived and laughed every day. It was so good to leave, but even better to come home. And home is where I do my best writing. ... Why is it so flipping hard to tell you that you hurt me? Perhaps it's because deep inside I'm scared that I'm not worthy and if I give you any reason to abandon me for good you'll take it in a heartbeat, you'll realize you should. I usually struggle to title my poetry, but this one came with a name. It's called: Wake-up Klap It's funny how fast I forget how you broke and battered my brain but it would be a sham and shame to protect the picture that you present of what life looked like under that thistled thumb I'm so tired of you calling me dumb but that's just what I've been waiting for a scrumptious crumb to fill my empty expectations of what you could become. But when you thud the stale and moldy loaf against my ear the ringing threatens to drown out the logic that I fear: I judged wrong. You're NOT good. I should run. Or I should... Stand and fight. But not FOR you anymore. You've told me who you are, and I believe you. This is war. ... Also, this #leopardlily is still one of my favorite plants. As I was going through my associations of the call to #letscreate from @edit.write.read.caffeinate and @clairelouiseauthor , I kept finding myself missing some of those people who used to be so close to me. Did you know that I have packed up things and moved to a different country twice? Now you do! :) even with the obvious strains on connections with other humans in my life, I do not regret either of the decisions. I'm not a perfect plant mom. This is what happens when you don't repot your rapidly growing monster in time, and it becomes top-heavy and falls over. This poor fella has been through trauma, y'all. He's battered and neglected and covered in dust. But you know what? He's still pretty damn majestic. On a slight tangent, I wrote a new poem this morning. This is one of those that I wrote for one specific person, but realised after writing it that it's actually for everybody that I care about. So, to every family member, every friend, every person who's important to me... This one's for you. ... You can rest. I don't want you at your best - I want you raw tender flinching at the touch of your fears honest broken stained with freshly-shed tears I want to see you out of your element I want to see you scattered, not present distracted by your inner world the dirt that caused the pearl Why don't I want you perfect?
