Reviewing The Sword In The Stone; I just watched this and it’s a classic. As for the storyline Merlin a wizard helps teach young orphan Arthur the ways of life and teach him he good and on the way to him pulling the sword to becoming the king. As for the cast thought they voiced characters well. Overall it’s a great film I loved it as a kid and it’s still great now full of action and fun. #Robinhood (1973) : Brief Review - The iconic tale of Robin Hood in Disney's Animal Kingdom. Having seen Douglas Fairbanks' "Robin Hood" (1922) and Errol Flynn's "The Adventures of Robin Hood" (1938), there was nothing surprising in the story or screenplay for me. Disney's adaptation still has its own magic as it explores the same iconic tale with a midas touch of amusement park. This is set in an animal kingdom, with the leader being a fox. Robin Hood is robbing Prince John, who is making people penniless with his oppressive taxation while King Richard is away, to return it to the poor. The heartless sheriff is after poor people like the devil and wants to catch Robin Hood. Maid Marian is waiting for Robin Hood to come and propose to her for marriage, but it's been far too long since they have met each other. Robin Hood enters a ln arrow competition to win Marian's kiss, unaware of the fact that the competition was John's conspiracy to grab him. Robin Hood escapes and then returns to save others. In 70 minutes, Robinhood gives you drama, romance, adventure, music, and action. That's enough for a one-time meal, and you won't even burp. Disney's Animal Kingdom is visually beautiful and theoretically adorable. The practical sense is missing, but book yes about it when you know you are into Disney's amusing park. It's all fiction and fanaticism, and we love it that way only. Some dialogues work fine, while others are flat. The same goes for the songs, and I think the romance could have been trimmed. John and Robin Hood's battle could have been given more space. The idea is fascinating—to get everything done in a quick time and in such a manner that kids and adults both find it cute. Those who have heard of this story will feel nostalgia, while those who want to know it will get nostalgia for a lifetime. Meč v kameni / Sword in the stone 1963 Na tohle jsem narazil v nějakém seznamu opomíjených fantasy filmů. Kladu si furt otázku, jestli to teda je Artuš nebo není. Klasická osa zůstává - Artuš je adoptován, dělá panoše synovi rytíře, který jede do Londýna na turnaj. Protože zapomene meč, vydá se hledat jiný a narazí na Excalibur v kameni nebo kovadlině. Problém je, že tady tvoří 90 % stopáže vylomeniny Artuše (respektive Puchejře) s asi nejztřeštěnější verzí Merlina. Ten je věštec, největší z mágů a časozpytec znalý minulosti i budoucnosti. Vezme Artuše do učení, kdy mu předává moudrost během proměn v rybu, veverku nebo ptáka. Neustále do toho míchá narážky na chybějící elektřinu, nepohodlí středověku a budoucí vynálezy i kritiku 20. století. Tenhle úhel pohledu by byl super, kdyby byl takový Merlin boční linií silnějšího příběhu. My opinion: Not the best Disney movie and definitely not the best Robin Hood adaptation. Okay, I do think the animation is sub par. I mean, it’s great in areas. It shows the characters expressive faces and expressive movements. But since Disney was in a bit of a rough spot, they of course had to cut a few corners. Like reusing animation from their previous movies and reusing bits of animation you saw moments ago. That is almost, Michael Bay lazy. And the story is…Well, it honestly feels like three episodes of a Disney Robin Hood show and ironically enough it’s not a back door pilot. There isn’t that much character growth or characterisation. Marion doesn’t show that much personality besides being happy and smitten over Robin Hood. I mean, Monica Evans does fine vocal work but Marion should have been more instead of the happiest prisoner I have ever seen. Phil Harris, who is one of the most iconic voices of Disney movies is honestly just playing Baloo. I get it’s Little John but…Come on, you’re telling me that this bear with the voice of Phil Harris isn’t Baloo. I mean, they reuse animation from Baloo at points in the movie. Also, who let their kids in the recording booth to save money? Look, even though the story could have been better, it’s still solidly told and easy to follow. And the humour is pretty funny especially between Prince John and Sir Hiss. Brian Bedford is a solid Robin Hood. He is suave, charming and like Cary Elwes and unlike other Robin Hoods, he can speak with English accent. But the real stars of the movie are the villains. Peter Ustinov and Terry Thomas as Prince John and Sir Hiss. Them two were just having a load of fun in the recording booth. They’re funny, they’re memorable and they have great chemistry 👇🏻

Watched #TheJungleBook (1967) : Saw it as a child, then as a teenager, and now as a reviewer—the impact remains the same! Disney's transition era did not have great classics like the 30s, 40s and 50s, but surely it gave some nostalgic movies. The Jungle Book is by far one of the most popular animated flicks from Disney's transition era. I mean, who doesn't know about this movie? Who isn't aware of its characters—Mowgli, Bagheera, Baloo, and Shere Khan? Almost everyone knows it, and that's enough to describe its popularity across the globe. I remember watching this movie as a child and how much I loved it. Then, I saw it again in my college days and liked it just the same. Now, I saw it again as a reviewer, and by now, I have been through thousands of classic movies, including many animated classics from the old days, and yet, the impact of The Jungle Book remains just the same! The 2016 live-action remake did improve a few things, especially the drama and action. Rest, the original remains superior when it comes to the story, music, cuteness, and characters. The climax here is much better than the 2016 remake because we have a bit of a sad ending turned into a happy one. In this movie, Mowgli leaves the jungle, while the live-action remake sees him becoming a part of the jungle family. The perspective deferred both times, and both have valid reasons for it. I might have felt a little low because Tarzan (1999), or the 1932 movie, has done much better with a similar story by including humans, whereas TJB's main motive back in the 60s was perfect for its time. Time changes many things, but not memories and nostalgia. The Jungle Book (1967) will forever remain a part of my childhood memories, as well as my nostalgia as a grown up movie buff. I can't explain why, but I think it's one of those "basic necessities" for any movie buff, no matter what age group he belongs to. Once again, thank you, Disney, with folded hands. Watched #TheSwordInTheStone (1963) : More than Disney's nostalgia and the legend of King Arthur, it is a dose of educational booster for every child. Back in time, Disney played a big role in educating a child about life and education through their animation feature films. Right from the 30s to the 70s, I can name every popular Disney film that had some message for children or sometimes parents. Life, education, friendship, love, sacrifice, humanity, goodwill, and humility—they taught us everything. In the beginning, I thought The Sword in The Stone was quite a fictional tale, with that sword thing setting the plot ahead of the dark ages. Then I met the wizard, Merlin, and a little boy, Wart. With the prelude of the swordholder becoming the King of England and the wizard knowing everything about the future, it was easy to predict that Wart would be the one. But, hell no, I didn't know that it was about the legend of King Arthur. Merlin keeps telling him about education and how important it is. He teaches him life lessons by using magic tricks and bringing all his fantasies into real life. With each fantasy and transformation, Wart learns something wise. He keeps getting wiser, and that was the simplest way to do it. Becoming a fish or a bird makes an instant connection with children. That's the fun part as well as the most intelligent part. If you want to teach something to children, then do it the way they would want to learn it. That small love story with the squirrel was so heartwarming. He compares it to gravity. I mean, what an intellectual thought to explain and explore love and a scientific fact. It could have been a funnier film, but it depends more on drama and adventure. The motive was right, and the execution too; it's just that the fun was missing. But excuse me, who the hell cares about fun when you can have knowledge? Only some duffers would care. Hail King Arthur and Long Live Disney. “The Jungle Book” (1967) is an animated musical comedy directed by Wolfgang Reitherman starring Bruce Reitherman, Phil Harris, Sebastian Cabot & Louis Prima. Another absolute beloved Childhood classic of mine and i’m sure many other peoples, what’s not to love about The Jungle Book? I do find that a lot of the older Disney films don’t hold up quite well today due to the animation and voice acting - however, they are certainly still so wholesome and wonderful to watch and this is no different. The film flows perfectly, it tells the story well in the short runtime which was always something so great about the Classic Disney films. The music is by far the best thing about the movie with classics such as: “Bare Necessities”, “I Wanne Be Like You” & “Trust In Me” among a few others. Songs that have become so iconic and instantly recognisable whether you’ve seen the movie or not - much like most of Disney’s classics. The voice cast is solid bringing all the characters to life very well. The story moves along very swiftly, making the characters so likeable in such a short amount of time. Overall, not much to say on this one - it’s a classic but hasn’t aged well. OTD - February 4, 1966 - Walt Disney's animated short "Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree", directed by Wolfgang Reitherman, was released. This was the first of Disney's many animated projects adapted from A. A. Milne's "Winnie-the-Pooh" stories, and the only one released during Walt's lifetime. Walt had been introduced to Milne's stories via his daughter Diane and intended to adapt them into a feature in the late 1930s, but did not buy the story rights until 1961 and ultimately decided to produce several short "featurettes". Careful not to create a film too slavishly close to the source, Walt assigned direction of the first featurette to former animator Reitherman, who had never heard of Milne's stories (and reportedly hated the task), while Pooh-loving animators Frank Thomas, Ollie Johnston and Milt Kahl were kept off it. The difficulty of creating a film recognizable as both Milne and Disney was immediate, though one of the compromises found was to stylize the backgrounds after Ernest Shepard's illustrations, and have the characters interact with the text. "Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree" opened in England to mixed reviews, being notably slandered by Shepard who called it "a complete travesty". Film critic Felix Barker sent a telegram to Burbank to complain about Christopher Robin's American accent, and the print was sent back to be redubbed. The short was successful in the US, however, and was followed by two other featurettes, "Winnie the Pooh & the Blustery Day" (1968) and "Winnie the Pooh & Tigger Too" (1974). The three shorts were later combined into a feature, "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh" (1977). Milne's widow Daphne was reportedly pleased with the first short : “I was nervous. If I did not like this version of Pooh, I would feel deeply disappointed and hurt. Pooh is part of my life, part of my cherished memories. I leaned forward. There was a nursery scene and a glimpse of Christopher Robin as a child in cartoon. There was the tree in the 100 Aker Wood with bees buzzing about it, and Pooh, attached to a balloon, sailing upwards in search of honey, his favorite food. I relaxed. It was all right. Nothing jarred. I was very relieved".

Closing the night with a happy 65th anniversary to Sleeping Beauty, the classic Disney animated featured based on the fairy tale about Princess Aurora who was cursed by the evil fairy Maleficent to die from a prick from the spindle of a spinning wheel but saved by three good fairies, who alter the curse so that the princess falls into a deep sleep and is awakened by true love's kiss. I'm surprised that this had middling reviews and a unsuccessful run at the box office at the time of releas before it became the celebrated classic it is today and it's a fairy interesting story here that doesn't make no attempt at consent given the rules yet bolsters with great art work and animation and a good voice cast. OTD - January 21, 1960 - Walt Disney's animated short "Goliath II", directed by Wolfgang Reitherman, was released. Based on an original story by Bill Peet (who "nearly died on it"), it was the studio's only animated release of 1960. The was the first short photographed using the Xerography process, a technique developed by effects technician Ub Iwerks in the late 1950s that replicated the animators' drawings directly onto cels, therefore eliminating the costs of cleanup and inking. The process was first tested on the last sequence of "Sleeping Beauty" (1959), and was used on all the studio's animated features for the next three decades following that film's financial failure, starting with "One Hundred and One Dalmatians" (1961). Walt initially despised the graphic look of Xerox, but progressively came to accept it as a necessary means of tightening the belt. "Goliath II" also marked the first solo directing effort of Reitherman, who had co-directed "Sleeping Beauty" and would go on to be the sole director on "The Sword in the Stone" (1963), "The Jungle Book" (1967), "The Aristocats" (1970) and "Robin Hood" (1973). According to animator Frank Thomas : "They told Woolie, 'We want this picture, but only if you can bring it in for $100,000." It would be like saying, "Go out and buy the best car you can. It can be used as long as it isn't over two years old, but all we're giving you is $1,500. Go out and make a deal.'" The pressure to maintain a low budget drove Reitherman to reuse animation from older films, including "Dumbo" (1941), "The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr Toad" (1949) and "Peter Pan" (1953). He extended this practice into the features he directed, but after a while it was done mainly because he felt safe in repeating past successes. "Goliath II" was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Short, but lost to Gene Deitch's "Munro". Kvällens Disneyklassiker: The AristoCats (1970) @disneyplusse Det var minst 40år sedan jag såg den här senast, och det märktes! Det enda jag kom ihåg var den där "Everybody wants to be a cat"-scenen, och det var enbart för att jag sett just den för inte så länge sedan. Storyn, om hur den elaka butlern Edgar gör sig av med sin rika arbetsgivares fyra bortskämda katter, och hur lyxkatterna får hjälp av en riktig strykarkatt för att ta sig tillbaka till Paris, är mest en bagatell, med ett gäng musiknummer och några roliga sekvenser. Men jag gillar den lite yviga tecknarstilen, och karaktärsanimeringen i kattungarna Berlioz, Toulouse och Marie är fantastisk. Röstarbetet är på samma nivå som några av Disneys största klassiker från tidigare år... MEN, det verkar som att det lagts så mycket tid på att hitta rätt röster (Phil Harris, Eva Gabor, Sterling Holloway, Scatman Crothers mfl), att det inte funnits någon tid kvar att göra något åt resten av filmens ljudbild. Det är beklämmande låg ljudnivå på allt, och ibland verkar den helt sakna bakgrundsljud - lite sådär som dåligt dubbade filmer kan låta ibland. En introtext ursäktar vissa stereotypa karaktärer, vilket troligtvis mestadels innefattar den pianospelande "Chinese Cat", som med sina sneda ögon, stora framtänder och gula päls såklart inte riktigt är PK med dagens mått mätt. Men hellre en intakt film + en ursäkt, än en censurerad film. Det är inte ofta jag reflekterar över vem som regisserat de här animerade klassikerna, och sällan är det namn jag känner igen. I det här fallet var det den för mig okända Wolfgang Reitherman - men lite efterforskning har lett till att jag antagligen kommer lägga hans namn på minnet från och med nu. Utöver 'The AristoCats' har han nämligen även regisserat 'Sleeping Beauty' (1959), '101 Dalmatians' (1961), 'The Sword In The Stone' (1963), 'The Jungle Book' (1967), 'Robin Hood' (1973) och 'The Rescuers' (1977)!
