This method facilitated precise micro-oxidation during maturation. Clay strikes a textural balance between steel and oak. While stainless steel keeps wine oxygen-free and flavour-neutral, oak introduces oxygen and imparts tannins. Clay, porous like oak, permits some oxygen contact, resulting in a wine with texture and depth. There’s a pleasing, textural grip to it all.. Yet, like steel, it remains flavour-neutral and allows the terroir to speak through the grapes. Following this, the wine was left unfined and unfiltered, with minimal sulphur, and further aged in the bottle for an additional 16 months prior to release. “The texture touches the palate first with a chalky, soft velvet feel accentuated by the acid line then layers in a lees complexity.” Outstanding. 95 Points. I fell in love instantly with Aricò’s design. Was it because of the color ? Was it because of the Mediterranean feeling coming from the setting ? Surely those lemons and plants had to do something for too, no ? The obvious inspiration is Greek, from the shape of the object to their decoration. But what an inspiration ! The artistic take on it is amazing. The patterns have a nice cartoon-like touch to them, so do the characters. I see them exulting love, sensuality and happiness. They are precisely carved, but without be necessary fine. Yet Aricò managed to pack layers of details, both in style and references. I think all the body features are amazing in how they are represented. My favorite are the amphorae vases and bowl. The idea of representing those scenes, like an antique Greek vase, but with that style, is fantastic. With body postures inspired from famous pieces, the characters yet have nice twists, and seem to all be dancing together. So nice for my garden. It is simple. Simple, in the sense that the object doesn’t reinvent itself, it is still a clay set. But over that simplicity, so much is happening, it is mesmerizing. The more I look at it, even writing those lines, the more I like it. Small hidden details in the carvings, feel-good figure, it makes me just happy, and it makes me feel like I’m in the Mediterranea. Saint John Amphora 2022 is the new label released by the @venetsanoswinerysantorini . It is a PDO Santorini wine, with a selected blend of Assyrtiko from the winery’s own vineyards “Mesa Pariani” and “Lakos” in the Pyrgos area. In 2023, the first Saint John was released, after 36 months in French oak barrel, and a few days ago the Saint John Amphora 2022 was released with vinification and maturation entirely in amphora. The new label was fermented in two amphorae of different composition (terracotta and clay) and size of Italian origin, followed by two months of ageing in fine lees and twelve months of ageing in the same containers. Amphora Putting finishing touches to a meditative exercise begun in our art_fuel workshop in Byron Bay. I have always loved images of Ancient Greek and Roman vessels. Couldn’t resist including asemic text which is my interpretation of an ancient Roman inscription painted onto the surface of the terracotta after firing. It was most often used on amphorae, and specified origin, destination, manufacturer, and the item being transported. I told you it was the easiest Hack :) (ha ha ha) I kept seeing amphorae turned into lamps and by simply placing @ikea Stråla lamp inside mine, I now have one too. Ok ok, when I’m less tired from a day in the office I will glue the base of the lamp to the amphora’s bottom but for now you get the gists… the shade was a lucky find at @tkmaxxuk and I love how the green pops out in the almost monochrome maroon hall, almost suggesting there is more green to come in the next room … hope you like it too and if you have a large vase and in need of more lamps (you can never have enough lamps in my view), then do this super simple hack and send me pics to show me the results xx

Night of the Willy Pullers In ancient Greek Mythology, the ‘Night of the Willy Pullers’ was an event of the Three Grace’s design, whereby women and men of all orientations (and with complete equality) would re-embrace long forgotten childish curiosities about one another. As it was completely equal, it wasn’t all about the willies, it was just as much about lady bits but they wanted to keep the name snappy and appropriately immature. Nothing dark happened, it was all a bit slapstick really and booze may or may not have been involved. The Gods and Goddesses looked down upon the events of the night thoroughly entertained. Then as the sun began to rise in the sky, everyone went back to their lives again and mythical beasts, confused by what had just unfolded before them, rolled their eyes and shook their heads before going about their business again. #Q Unfortunately for me, my trip to @britishmuseum did not provide me with sight of a #qvevri The plus side of this of course, means that there are more still in situ and now forever protected by the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage registration👏 What I did see were many different vessels, predominantly from ancient Greece and the Roman Empire🏛️🏟️ #qvevri are uniquely #georgian 🇬🇪 Clay vessels, however, have different names depending on their origin and use but the generic term for a clay pot used in #winemaking is amphora. Amphorae, unlike qvevri, have handles and were used only for transportation and storage, not for fermentation. The term is also sometimes used to refer to a drinking vessel. Sono fatte apposta per la vinificazione: le riconosci dal coperchio e il collo in acciaio, che garantiscono una chiusura ermetica, ed dal colmatore in vetro. 🇬🇧 I use two kinds of amphorae for my wines: the Georgian ones and the modern version, made in Impruneta, Tuscany. One of the most widely used motif in Ancient Archelogical Jewelley through Victorian times were Amphroras. The Amphora was a container-vessel-vase-jug-pot that was used to store and or transport oil, water, perfume and grain. The pointed bottom on certain amphoras was a way of storing it upright, as the Bottom (pointed end) would go into the sand or dirt floor of that period of time’s dwellings in the Mediterranean world. 📖Quick facts: MAVROTRAGANO (meaning #black and #crisp ) is a #greek grape variety. As like other greek varieties, #mavrotragano was near extinction. Now, winemakers in the island of #tinos and especially #santorini are making exceptional premium wines. Due to its high tannins, mavrotragano is often aged in new barrels. In its birthplace, Santorini, Mavrotragano vines are traditionally trained into a #kouloura method . That is actually look like a circular basket. The reason is to protect the grapes from the strong winds, extreme sunlight, volcanic sand and the lack of water. Except #cyclades islands, Mavrotragano is also planted in the rest of #greece , especially #olympus and #thessaloniki . U riječku vinoteku @vinoteka_wineco uletila sam odmah nakon obavljene ribarnice. Na 5 minuta, kako bih kušala jedno posve drugo vino namijenjeno radionici na temu kvarnerskog škampa u organizaciji @sommelier.hr i @visitkvarner. @lucija0804 je kušala vina @gordiawines u društvu poznatog slovenskog “narančastog” vinara Andreja Cepa. Timing mi je perfektan! Bijeli pet-nat, dominantno na bazi malvazije je famozan! Berba 2022. u mnogočemu je bila posebna za tu stilistiku, iako su Gordia vina prvi u Sloveniji proizveli pet-nat jos davne 2006. Ancestralna ili ruralna metoda nije nova stvar, Bakarska vodica se i pred dvjesto godina proizvodila na taj način s bocama ukopanim u pijesaku. Da ne eksplodiraju. Ali posljednjih godina ponovno je ušao u modu. “Tri tjedna nakon berbe, kad ostane dvadesetak grama neprovrelog sladora, puni se u boce. Ovo je prva godina kada je malolaktika krenula u boci. Prve boce otčepili su u 11. mjesecu. Zbog ML fermentacije taloga je bilo u izobilju, a i perlage, tlak u boci je bio ubojit. Ni mirisom se nije mogao pohvaliti. “Boce smo na 24 sata okrenuli naglavačke i odradili mini degoržaciju. “, kaže gdin “Gordia”. Pa da je život prirodnih vinara lak😉. Rezultat je čist, mineralan i precizan s dušom malvazije. Malvazija dominira i u Gordia Amfori, onoj najnovijoj, koja je macerirana i odleźana isključivo u amforama. Bez imalo utjecaja drveta. E ta kupaža dominantne malvazije, sivog pinota i bijelog muškata totalno je mediteranska u stilu. S mirisom mora, ružmarina, morskih algi, mediteranske makije spaljene na suncu i zrelog źutog koštunjičavog voća. Two Rooks and an amphorae. My reproduction of a Roman fresco decorated with two ravens and an amphorae jug found in the villa of the orchard. Based on a surviving fresco in Pompeii, Italy, 1st century AD. 🇮🇹 Pompeian frescoes were executed in the buon fresco (true fresco) technique, in which the pigments were painted onto a freshly applied, damp/wet plaster ground. The plaster contains liquid lime (calcium hydroxide).
