2014 Leflaive Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet - Very pretty nose with good intensity, a bit of flint, lemon, and citrus notes. Nice acidity with bright fruit, anis, lemon, and rocks on the palate. Long finish. Excellent wine that feels a bit brighter but also more backwards compared to the Batard Montrachet next to it. Interesting to see how different the two vineyards show. I would drink the BM now and let this rest for a bit longer. 2014 Leflaive Bâtard-Montrachet - Gorgeous nose with lots of floral notes, lemon, minerals, and a bit of reduction/flint. Great acidity on the palate with quite high intensity, more lemon, smoke, apple, and flint notes. Very deep and complex flavors and a long finish. This was outstanding! On Friday afternoon the Burgundy Lunch Bunch held their annual holiday luncheon at the mansion. Not only did I have the opportunity to work with some incredible wines, I had the pleasure of executing service with @dcsommurai and @chefdavidb_ I love taking care of the gentlemen who comprise this wine club, their generosity and knowledge is abundant. There are many positives about our move to AZ, but sometimes I miss having the wine dialogue with guests that was routine in SF, and almost nonexistent here. The Burg Lunch Bunch provide so much more than a job to be completed, they allow me to have an outlet for my passion, to practice the expertise I have gained professionally, and it’s just wonderful to connect with people that share the love and understanding of these world class wines. They taste all the wines blind, their banter and assessments are both entertaining and impressive. My favorites of the line up were the 96’ Salon, 99’ Coche, and the 93’ Dujac. All showing incredible vibrancy and longevity. WE entre amis - Acte 3 Soirée centrée autour de ma bien-aimée #bourgogne Le @louisroederer_ Cristal 1996 a brillé de mille feux dans un registre évolué (pointe oxydative) et élancé. Que les vieux #champagne sont grands lorsqu’ils se présentent ainsi ! Le @domainejacquesselosse Substance (dégorgement 01/2020) acquis auprès de @maison_malleval (@alex.chatelet & @david_hcqt) lui a succédé à merveille dans un registre plus large et confortable. Il y a de la magie dans tout ce qu’élabore ce domaine ! Le #pulignymontrachet « Les Enseignères » 2006 de @cochedury a fait des étincelles sur les ris de veau aux morilles. Expressif au nez (mais sans le grillé caractéristique du domaine), sphérique et plein en bouche. Au niveau espéré, impensable pour un « simple » village… Le duel entre le #bienvenuebatardmontrachet 2014 du @domaineleflaive et le #batardmontrachet 2014 du Domaine @ramonet a tenu toutes ses promesses. L’équilibre souverain, la tension vibrante, la puissance toute en finesse et la finale interminable du premier a impressionné plus encore que la largeur, le gras et l’impact magistral du second. Le pigeonneau a mis en valeur le duel des deux titans que sont le #chambertin 2011 et le #chambertinclosdebeze 2011 du @domaine_armand_rousseau. Comment départager ces deux monuments ? Les courbes féminines et la sensualité du Chambertin malgré son intensité pourront peut-être séduire aujourd’hui un peu plus facilement que la puissance brutale et massive du Clos de Bèze ? Mais choisir, c’est renoncer et il n’est pas question de se priver de l’un ou de l’autre. Je rêverais de les déguster à nouveau en parallèle dans 10 ans 🤩 La #romaneesaintvivant 2011 du Domaine de la @romanee_conti_official_ est dans la droite lignée des vins du domaine : arômes floraux, rose, ronce. L’énergie en bouche n’a d’égal que le caractère satiné des tanins ou encore la finale tellurique et infinie. Magistral ! #fonsalette 2012 n’était initialement pas prévu au programme et a été ouvert au débotté. Et pourtant… Très expressif, avec une densité remarquable, ce millésime fera date ! La Taragone jaune 1973-1985 dénichée chez @nouvelle_cave a superbement conclut cette soirée épique !

Thanksgiving dinner with friends. Lovely wines enjoyed in great company. Ulysse Maillons was 11 base and oldest post desgorged I had tried feels like his more recent wines have more precision and energy however the vintage may play a role as well as the fact it was a bit warm, one to revisit. A beautiful pair of 92 white Burgundies Leroy Chassagne 1er and Ramonet BBM in the zone (Leroy more voluptuous and immediate and Ramonet more elegant), Rhys I was pleased to call California blind, the Clair Beze had bags of macerated cherries on the nose, I would not have guessed 17 red burgundy it felt a bit exotic and unbalanced, then a great pair of CLB Cras 09 and 14 (gosh that nose on the 09 was to die for, worldclass, a reminder why this is one of my absolute favourites chez CLB for me, especially pound for pound, the 14 developed wonderfully with aeration) and a gracious mature red Burg pair of Dujac Eche 86 which was ethereal and immediately open and Engel CdV 89 which kept growing in the glass. The Rav Butteaux 17 was a lovely palate cleanser at the end. 2021 Bienvenue Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru DAVID MORET This wine has a bit of a funky nose… which I seem to find in most French wines. However, that doesn’t deter me. This wine was so interesting. The palate builds into rich vanilla, tapers off just a bit as acid builds, and lingers there for a long time. It’s balanced with just the right amount of oak and fruit. Excellent food by Chef Jaime. We all enjoyed the excellent food and service at Fireside. Unfortunately the wines tonight were a bit underwhelming. Arnaud Ente Meursault Clos des Ambres 2011 - quite intense and metallic. Nicely made wine but not really my preferred style. Ramonet BBM 2010 - despite a great nose and a full body but it feels like the palate needs a bit more time to integrate. Roumier Chambolle 2007 - probably the ceiling of village level chambolle and drinking perfectly now. Anne Gros Richebourg 2006 - disappointing. Doesn't show much character and wouldn't be able to tell its from a top maker if blinded. Mongeard Mugneret Richebourg 2016 - way too young although it seems pretty promising. 15 Mugnier Les Amoureuse 14 Ramonet BBM Les Amoureuse is a quite temperamental wine. Metaphorically, you may think it as a woman changes her outfits three times a day. The show started with a unmistakable cocoa bean fragrance, gentle and with good concentration. The touch was light and elegant, with a negligible gentle acidity. After 2 hours of decant, it went showing a complex floral boutique that I usually find in Melon, precisely. Well supported by vanilla and brioche. Perhaps Melon, and watermelon are intuitively regarded rustic and inexpensive in many aesthetic discussion. (But imagining how explicit it could be if Petrarch’s writing a poem to praise Melone.) In this wine, such fragrance and refresh was expressed in a ironic level of vividness. After 4 hours of decant. Cinnamon spices, black cherry, plum and rose. Smooth and balanced finish. Route des Grands Crus 2000, Day 4, Flight 6 We are left with seven flights, so this set of whites has to be either Criots Batard Montrachet, Chevalier Montrachet or the full Monty. Or it could be a producer flight. Wine 1 was advanced and premox, unfortunately. Wine 2 gained much attention, with a sweet floral nose and ripe citrus fruits. Wine 3 was more fresh and youthful; it reminded me of an apple pie. Wine 4 is the second favourite to Wine 2, more nutty and chalky on the palate. It turns out to be the Criots Batard Montrachet flight, the smallest of the white grand crus at 1.57 hectares. It sits on the south of the Batard Montrachet. Both D'Auvernay and Hubert Lamy own tiny plots at the side. Just a barrel a year. One of my colleagues described the D'Avuvernay as a beurre noisette with layers of flavours. It shows more ripeness and minerality, typical in Criot, due to its sunny exposition. Hubert Lamy gets better as I finish the last sip. Amazingly concentrated and keep opening in the glass. The Girardin BBM did not stand out even though we tasted them blind. Because of the size, the reputation of the wines from this plot is more delicate relative to the larger appellations. I don't get that; maybe the winemakers are off the charts. The 2014 Bienvenue-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru from Jean-Claude Ramonet is truly special. Despite almost ten years of age, the wine exhibits a pale yellow color. Its aroma is reserved and minimalistic, yet pure, featuring notes of yellow plum, citrus oil, green apple, pink grapefruit, toasted oak, and flint. On the palate, the wine is simultaneously deep and silky, with a crisp and invigorating flinty flavor that is both savory and long-lasting. It leaves a world-class iodine-rich aftertaste. It is evident that this wine requires at least another 5, if not 10, years of aging to reach a much better stage of development. 97+ I believe this wine has the capacity to mature and improve for 20+ years. Courtesy of @ltjbukem 🙏🏻, #2008, #bienvenuebatardmontrachet @domaine_pernot. As I observed its appearance, the deep color hinted at a possible oxidation. However, upon delving into its enticing bouquet, I was relieved to discover a captivating blend of aromas. The wine exuded delightful notes of dry apple, ripe citrus, dry peach, caramel, toasted oak, and flint. Moving on to the palate, I was met with a pleasant surprise. The wine displayed a youthful character, with a generous and dense volume. The ripeness was expertly balanced by the presence of flinty minerals, which left a lingering trace of flint, dry citrus, and a touch of iodine. With its iodine-rich acidity, this exceptional wine has the potential to gracefully age for another 10+ years. 2018 Domaine Paul Pernot, Bienvenues Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru. There is a lot of talk about warm vintages in Burgundy these days - 2018 being one of the. This wine was a bit of a revelation in that I would never have guessed 2018 - magnificent freshness and focus😎✌🏻 the colour is pale yellow gold with a hint of green. The nose actually a bit reticent and in need of air. The taste is very creamy but very cool in style and with tons of young yellow fruits.
