Late Post|11-10-18..this is an edited version from my FB post because it was too long.. ~Isabella’s 9 year Heart-Surgery Anniversary~ Nine years ago Isabella had a Congenital Heart Defect meaning, she had a hole in her heart that was too large to heal on its own and to repair it meant her undergoing heart surgery along with taking three different medications (since day two of being born) twice a day until the surgery. I remember the doctor handing us a brochure about a children’s camp for children that had gone through the same thing. The reasoning for this camp is because a lot of children can’t do “normal” activities afterward such as soccer, running, etc. It was like he was preparing us that she may not have a “normal” childhood. Newborn Isabella only drank about an ounce of milk every four hours and the doctor said, because of the hole, her heart was working overtime and just to eat exhausted her. She wasn’t gaining enough weight for the projected surgery timeframe at 6 months old. They gave us a calorie additive to put in her milk to help her gain weight and that still wasn’t enough. Matt and I woke every two hours to feed her while she slept and she finally started gaining weight so they could schedule surgery. At the time she’d be 5 months old, and they didn’t do heart surgery on babies younger then 6 months old, she would miss the window the surgeon would be in Hawai’i and would have to fly to California for her surgery. The doctors didn’t want to risk her flying because of her condition so they approved her to have it at just 5 months old. Coincidentally the date would land on my birthday. Everything went as planned during surgery. The nurses were so impressed with how well she was recovering, they named her the “Star patient of the week”. November 10th 2018 marked her 9 year anniversary and to commemorate the momentous occasion, she ran a FOUR MILE MARATHON in under 45 min! No words describe how it felt as a Mommy to see your baby accomplish that knowing what she went through at such a young age! So when I say, I’m so proud of her and am so honored and blessed to be her Mother, THIS is why!!!❤️ #ThankYouJesus #BstrongBfit @mattyb_billos
