Celebrating Medal Monday with my perfectly imperfect runDisney season and my first local race in several years. We went into Wine & Dine weekend registered for every runDisney race offered including the coast to coast challenge, however, after numerous emergency vet visits we decided it was best to put the perfect season aside, so we could be at home with the dogs. In the last five months I’ve finished: 1 - marathon 4 - half marathons 1 - 10 miler 1 - quarter marathon 4 - 10Ks 4 - 5Ks Those races were spent with countless friends from all over the country and the world, which is what makes the running community so special. Training for a half marathon isn’t for the faint of heart. Running a half marathon takes guts. Finishing a half marathon takes an indomitable spirit 💥✨ Yesterday we fought to finish. We ran miles 1-7 feeling strong, had fun handing out high fives, bumping into friends, and laughing at spectator’s signs (😅 tortured runners department), but somewhere around mile 8, C’s heart rate skyrocketed and we knew we needed to pump the brakes if we wanted to safely finish. There was frustration, especially after finishing the Cherry Blossom 10 Mile so strongly just a few weeks ago, but it was the smart thing to do. Miles 8-13 we dialed things back, slowed our pace, and incorporated walk breaks... and we finished together 🙌🌟❤️ I woke up feeling surprisingly really good this morning. No doubt that the two good meals and compression sleeves + IV drip we did at @rhw_dublin_oh post-race helped. No matter if it’s the first, fifth, fourteenth, or fiftieth — 13.1 miles is always a challenge and crossing the finish line is always an accomplishment. Cap City 2024!! What. A. Blast! This was my 38th half, and I have never enjoyed a race as much as I enjoyed this one yesterday! First - I did it with a great group of people! We had a lot of fun preparing for the race and enjoyed our weekend together even more. The miles go by a lot faster when you do them with friends. Second - I’ve never seen so many people stick around for the post-race party! The weather was perfect for hanging out to listen to @northtonashville and enjoying the free food/drinks! Third - the cheering sections along the course were incredible!! Thanks to everyone who came out to cheer on all the walkers/runners! I saw a ton of really creative signs and costumes! Lots of Taylor Swift themed signs this year - my favorite was probably “Taylor wrote 31 songs, you can run 13 miles!” 🤣 Running through the crowds was also a great reminder to register early for races so your name can be printed on your bib. I lost count of the number of strangers that yelled “Go Michael!” because they saw my name on my bib. Finally - a HUGE thank you to the 1,500 volunteers that came out to make sure everyone has a great race experience. Everyone was so nice and helpful! Today at nearly 34 years old, and eleven 13.1’s later I ran my PB at 2:13. Mentally I want to get (and am a little) hung up on the fact I didn’t hit my goal time of 2:10 but I’m forcing myself to realize how far I have come, not in just in 6 years but in the last 2 years. The things I have overcome mentally, physically, and emotionally… the person I am today wouldn’t know the person I was 2 years ago. I have poured myself in to myself constantly these last 2 years and I have fought to be the woman I want my daughter to be proud of. I have stopped letting what others think whats best or appropriate dictate my life and my choices. I have fought for my body | my mind | and my family. I have stopped giving energy to things that don’t serve me and giving explanations to people who don’t deserve them. I allow the narrative others want to believe about me and stand up for myself and my views. I’ve quit apologizing for things I’m really not sorry for and have let those who don’t want to be in my corner see themselves out. I have come to know the woman I am and my journey and my story are truly MINE. Running is hard. Cap City 1/2 marathon. Somehow Iming managed to find me post race among Thousands! 1:49:57 Course PR and just barely stayed under 1:50. Ran a 1:51 last year but I haven’t faired too well with my spring halves as I never get off my arse with better training over the winter. First time racing a half in the new Brooks Hyperions. Gonna switch back to the Nike Zoomx for Pittsburgh 1/2 next weekend. Toe issue and blisters which was a first for the new Brooks. I have also adjusted my training the past week which will take time to adjust so with all the little things I’m still happy with the results. Race day is TOMORROW! No matter the number of miles, race days never fail to inspire me with the spirit of determination, the preparation and the perseverance that has gone into getting all of the runners around me here to this day.
