Glas Maol 4 41,42,43 and 44 Carn an Turic, Cairn of Claise, Glas Maol, and Creag Leacach. This started off as my first camp and Munro trip, camped just below the ski centre of the old military road. The day started off clear then quickly all visibility was lost on the ascent of Carn an Turic due to snow fall. Navigation was made tricky going to Cairn of Claise but once the quad bike trial was found it was easy going from there. Cairn of Claise to Glas Maol was a long but enjoyable slog through soft snow with some views finally opening up. The nail in the coffin was the final push up Creag Leacach which seemed like false summit after false summit until we reached the true point. The descent back to the car was long as the by-pass around Glas Maol was covered in a sheet of ice and a massive cornice above. A long walk across the plateau to the east of Glenshee 29th December . Four Munros: 🏔️Carn An Tuirc 1019m 🏔️Cairn Of Clause 1064m 🏔️Glas Maol 1068m 🏔️Creag Leacach 987m Left Callater bothy about 10 am (yes I know 🙄 what use is a winter hillwalker who can't even get out of bed at a proper time?) Got to the first summit at 12. And the fourth summit at 4 at sunset. My map blew away in the wind at the fourth summit (it blew away twice. I found it the first time. Felt very silly for stuffing it down my jacket instead of clipping it on) Walked back across the plateau retracing my footsteps. Arrived back at 10pm. 12 hours total. Nice bothy. No fireplace but a very good toilet with a urinal made out of a water cooler bottle. The Glenshee road was closed on the 28th while I walked to the bothy. Chair lift was closed when I took that photo. Eerily peaceful at the top of the closed ski run. There was a weird bit of aircraft wreckage which was supposedly found in a river. GLAS MAOL CIRCUIT OF 4 MUNROS! Our boys are now on 37 Munros. So proud of them. Glas Maol is the highest of the four Munros on the east side of the Cairnwell Pass. It took us close to 7:30 for 12 miles with lunch included. First up was Carn an Tuirc then Cairn of Claise, then Glas Maol before Creag Leacach. Very safe in good weather but need to be able to walk long distances with kids. I travelled with a fairly strong expectation that the first Munro of the day could have been it once the protection afforded by the mountain had gone and the forecasted high winds had hit home! *** 📍Càrn an Tuirc (1019m/3343ft) 📍Cairn of Claise (1064m/3491ft) 📍Glas Maol (1068m/3504ft) 📍Creag Leacach (987m/3238ft) *** Although this is in the Glenshee Ski Centre area, the starting point is a couple of kms down the road which means the starting altitude is a bit more normal (lower) than what you start at for The Cairnwell. *** I couldn’t quite work out what was best, park at the start, middle or end? If you’ve done these Munros, what did you do??? *** The wind was strong and high but didn’t actually have much of an effect on the walking! Visibility wasn’t great but little breaks would come and go, with the best views at the end of the day. *** Once up on your first Munro, the walking is pretty easy going. Part 1 of 3#️⃣ . Glenshee 6, Spittal of Glenshee, Braemar, Scotland📍🏴▲▲▲▲▲▲ . . Wow, what a day!!! That was tough going, but overall, an incredible day out and we couldn't have asked for better company - thank you sooo much for putting up with us for such a long time @cinnamonthewcs and @harlow_wcs, you lot are a group of troopers with fabulous doggos💪 . We're going to split this review into 3 parts. This part will cover the ascent up to the first Munro only, Carn an Tuirc▲ . The approach started on a decent path next to a free flowing burn which was beautiful! It was however, turning into a hot day very early on with barely a cloud in the sky. . The route quickly turns into a relentlessly steep, boggy, midge infested slog. This does however ease at the 3/4 way mark and becomes a boulder field. . By far not the worst ascent we have done - the bog adds a bit of fun when in company if anything else. Piper managed absolutely fine! Although she did decide today was not a day that she wanted to listen to me so she was on lead for 90% of the time. . . 4/5⭐️ - simply due to the midges and endless bog . . 🔸️Navigation on this one is fairly simple, just go up! . 🔸️No livestock on this section on the trail however keep an eye out for some rogue sheep . 🔸️Distance from the car park to the top is only 3km . 🔸️Plenty of water at the bottom for dogs to top up on their hydration pre-hike . ❗️There is plenty of heather on either side of the 'path' and signs on the approach warned of adders. Keep this in mind if pooch is offlead . ❗️This is a boot walk - the bog is deep and there are large sections that you're vest jumping over.
